  1. For 7625 in my 5 inch Schuemann 3 port hybrid barrel I use anywhere from 8.4 grains to 8.6 with a 115 Montana Gold JHP at 1.235 OAL, depending on which lot of 7625 for a velocity right at 1500fps/ 172pf. There is considerable variation between lots of 7625.
  2. Things I've seen at local matches: The solitary Pepper Popper on a stage, locked in place with a rock wedged into the works during the stage reset just before the intended victim (club President) shot. He figured it out after the 3rd shot, but emptied the rest of the mag on it for good measure. All the plates on a plate rack locked in place with wooden wedges under the bottom front of the plate. The club Presidents revenge for the previous gag, unfortunately the victim was NOT the one responsible for the previous gag, but there was still a lot of ribbing about wimp loads and calls for the chrono. The rear sight adjusted full right on any gun left on the safe table during a porta-potty break, also have seen the rear sight adjusted while holstered during a deep club political discussion. This was especially good on a stage with lots of steel. Reshoots were given after allowing them to resight their pistols. Round knock down steel plates replaced with paper plates taped to a wire ring taped to the target stand. Why won't the blankety-blank steel fall? Did you guys mess with my sights AGAIN? Large Tannerite exploding target taped behind the upper A/B zone of a partial target. Reshoot and clean underwear were issued! An unloaded gun start with the gun in a toolbox that was superglued shut. Another favorite was supergluing to the table, an ammo can the shooter was supposed to carry. A stage with a revolver as a stage gun to knock down a single Pepper Popper and loaded with some very healthy blanks. Always wanted to load a shotgun stage gun with a confetti round, but never had the chance. Most of these were played on or by a group of about 5 people and were generally taken/given in pretty good humor.
  3. That avatar is "Spicoli"? I wasn't going to say anything because I always thought that it was someone's daughter, or wife! So to bring this back on topic, what pants is Spicoli wearing?
  4. Even though it only has a single ocular, it has two objective lenses which would put it in Open. If it only had a single ocular and objective then it would be OK for Tactical, just as any other multi-power or multi-reticle scope

  6. The last line in the movie just before they roll credits was very interesting!
  7. Some items to check, first is the fit of the lower barrel lug to the frame. If the frame channel is quite a bit wider than the lower barrel lug, the barrel may not be centered when you tighten up the guide rod. If the barrel is not centered in the frame you will have feed and extraction problems. Also check the breechface with a .22 case to see if it is undersize or oversize, I've seen both. If the recess in the breechface is too small it will run OK until it gets a bit dirty then malfunction. If the recess is oversize it won't run when it's clean, but will run better when it's dirty. Check the roll pin holding the extractor is tight in the slide and has not moved up or down and dragging on the magazine or sight rail.
  8. The problem using the barrel as a case gauge is the barrel does NOT fully enclose the round all the way to the case rim the same way a case gauge does. The area of the feed ramp leaves a sizeable portion of the case rim exposed. A 'Glocked' case may seat fully into the chamber IF it happens to be properly clocked so the bulge fits into the feed ramp area, but may NOT chamber if the round is rotated 90 degrees. The best choice is a case gauge reamed with the same ream as your chamber. Second choice would be the EGW gauge reamed to match your chamber, if that's not possible, third choice is a commercial case gauge that will NOT accept a fired case from your chamber. If a fired case from your chamber will fit the case gauge it is too loose.
  9. I had that concern as well. I don't know of anything to do about it other than maybe put a note in the course description for the RO's to be on the lookout and to try and remember what target was being engaged, if they notice a shoot-thru, to look closer at during the scoring. Maybe a dumb question, but is there any kind of paint or anything that if a bullet passed through it, the bullet would pick up the color and leave a some kind of mark on the target? I know the lack of a carbon ring around a hit would also be an indication of a shoot-thru, but could be kinda cool if there was a way for the bullet to leave some kind of colored mark if it passed through the wall and into the target. How about just defining the walls as soft cover, and then building them solid enough that shooting through them is probably going to be a miss?
  10. WOW! Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend this years match, but from the videos already posted it looks like Phil did his usual outstanding job on this years Pro-Am.
  11. That's not normal to my CV2001. It looks as though there may have been too many cases/not enough media and left running too long.
  12. I use the Alchin mount with a thumbhole stock and the mount was very slightly too low, so I put a 1/4" thick spacer between the C-More and the mount made from 1" wide hardware store aluminum stock trimmed to match the outline of the Alchin mount.
  13. I have all 3 (Colt, S&W and Nordic upper), the Nordic which is a great practice rifle because it is almost identical in feel (weight & dimensions) to my 5.56 AR. I have it set up on a second lower with the same trigger and optics as my 5.56. It is very reliable when run wet and accurate with most any ammo, very very accurate with a couple of High Velocity brands. It shoots as well as some of my heavy barrelled 10/22's and is less picky about ammo than they are. The S&W is not a great practice rifle because it is very light, but that makes it a very good Ruger rimfire/Steel rifle. So far I've had mixed results as far as reliablity and accuracy go. When I first got it, I had lots of misfires and several out of battery case blowouts, the last of which broke the gun. I sent it back to S&W and they replaced just about everything except the serial number! No more misfires or out of battery problems, but it wants to be very clean to run reliably as long as the magazines are loaded carefully and accuracy is only so-so with most ammo, and less than mediocre with some. Still a fun gun and great for smaller (weaker) shooters than the heavy Nordic and with a better trigger than the Colt. The Colt has been very reliable straight out of the box and runs anything from the cheapest bulk SV on up to Hypervelocity stuff and seems to prefer being dirty. The feel of the Colt is halfway between the S&W and Nordic, it is heavier than the S&W, but not as heavy as the Nordic. There is no slop between the upper and lower. The collapsible stock was loose, but a piece of electrical tape on the tube corrected the problem. The trigger is very heavy, but no creep or mush. Accuracy is suprisingly good with most SV to High Velocity ammo, but it does not like Hypervelocity. The magazines are not the same size as standard mags, but this is by design, the gun does NOT accept any standard AR parts other than sights so it can be sold even in countries with strict no military arms restrictions. The magazines also do not drop free or insert easily without lots of work with sandpaper, they are however much easier to load and are not as sensitive to ammo stacking as the S&W mags. Accessories are cheap, most airsoft furniture is a direct fit.
  14. Maybe I missed it in the previous posts, but what pants does Daniel Horner wear with the open kneepad(?) pocket at the knees?
  15. How are you cycling the slide? Just racking it back and letting it slam forward?
  16. One gallon of cheap white latex paint, 1 or 2 cheap paint rollers for each stage, 1 cheap paint roller tray for each stage, and a couple 12 packs of plastic paint roller tray liners. It's a little messier than spray paint, but it's quick, and actually covers better so the plates have a more uniform appearance.

  18. Ditto! Get 2 C-mores, one with a 4 MOA dot for the AR and one with a 6 or 8 MOA dot mounted to an Alchin mount for the 10/22. The majority of Ruger Rimfire and Steel Challenge shooters use this combination.
  19. Call the airline booking number and explain the above situation, generally they will book the direct/shorter flight for the same lower price as the connecting/longer flight.
  20. Try the TUFF "P.M.S. 5 or 8 In Line" pouches for single stack 1911. They work very well for Ruger .22 mags. Very nicely made and well thought out. TUFF Products P.M.S. In Line Mag Pouches Best of all, they're Ichiro approved!
  21. Sacramento Valley Steel has Steel Challenge matches monthly at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center in Sloughhouse, Ca. from May to October on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
  22. Not to be a smart ass or anything either, but not everyone on this forum is identified by their occupations so not everyone knows who is a professional gunsmith and who just slept at the Holiday Inn Express. So it is kind of poor form to knock people living on the other side of the country for not knowing who your local gun plumber is. JMHO.
  23. Then you do mark your magazines. If you shot other divisions, it might be necessary for you to mark or number your magazines for other reasons such as putting your name or USPSA number on them so they are easier to be returned if left or dropped, numbering or otherwise marking both the tube and basepad so the proper parts go back together in the proper combination to fit the mag length gauge without the necessity of dragging out the gauge to check, or identifying which are your 20, 21, 28, or 29 round reloadable mags and which are your 22, or 30 round non-reloadable mags depending on division of course.
  24. No, there is no requirement in Steel Challenge to bag rimfire pistols. It is acceptable to use a holster.
