72stick
Anyone have time behind the new Ruger long range rifle? I know it’s brand new and there probably aren’t many of any in the shops yet, but I have some reservations about the 2 piece lower receiver. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but how will this 2 piece lower receiver hold up under field conditions and if it doesn’t, how would a failing lower impact accuracy or reliability? They have a new multi mag retention system design that accepts several different manufactures mags. We all know the weakest part of any detachable mag system is the mag itself. The articles I’ve found on Ruger’s RPR don’t go into how much testing went into the production rifle; they just discuss other AR type attributes the rifle exudes. They fall short in reviewing the rifle and its 2 piece lower with innovating mag retention system over time. The only thing I saw about the 2 piece lower was the construction process in American Rifleman that says “…the right and left halves simplify manufacturing and allows more precise control of machining in the mag well and makes assembly of small components easier as they can be positioned in one half before the other half is attached.” This attaching is where I have questions. How is it locked in place? What happens after several hundred recoil cycles from high velocity rounds going down the pipe try to loosen things up or how does it hold up when the gun gets banged around in normal field conditions? It's price point and AR type attributes are very attractive, but I'm not ready to abandon my R700 just to try a new entrant in the long range rifle game. Butterpuc
There is a really nice review by Frank Galli (sp?) on snipers hide (scout.com). He has a video and write up, which is very favorable. This is a very interesting rifle indeed. IIRC, the recoil is transferred through the upper tube, it is discussed in that review. I have heard these can be picked up for around $1100 before shipping, taxes, and FFL.
Reshoot
The rifle has my attention! I'm waiting to see the street price.

FlightMurse
I am anxiously awaiting the release of a left handed version of this rifle. I have been wanting a 6.5 creed for a while and this will fill the hole in my safe perfectly.
BitchinCamaro
If it's held together via pins like an AR, I doubt the upper and lower are going to unmate during normal use. I just checked out their promo video. I'm pretty impressed with some of the clever features they put in there. 5R rifling for the win.

TonytheTiger
I'm really not a fan of Ruger rifles but this one has me very intrigued. I've been considering a Savage LRP in 6.5CM for a couple years but really wanted more of a chassis gun, so this is much closer to my end goal right out of the box. I have handled some Ruger American rifles before though, and the action felt very much like a $400 dollar rifle should feel, so I wonder if the RPR (based off the American action) is going to smell a bit like a polished turd. Stuey
Frank at Snipershide did a good review of it. None of the LGS around me have it yet. I am interested and would like to shoot one before thinking about purchasing one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Graham Smith
It certainly has gotten the attention of the long range community. The trigger could use some work, at least according to some. But the concepts involved in the design have really opened some doors.
polymerfeelsweirdman
Why the clamshell lower though... Couldn't they have just used an ar10 lower modified or unmodified?

troupe
Good price and the barrel is easy to change. Someone with have a better trigger if the rifle is a hit.
Gooldylocks
Seems like for the price, they are gonna shake up the long range world. I am definitely thinking about one. I haven't ever seen a rifle that can shoot sub half MOA at nearly 900 yards for that kind of money before. It appears that it would be a nice way to get into long range stuff (which I have wanted to do for awhile).

Steve Moneypenny
it seems pretty cool, the fact that it comes in 6.5 creedmoor even better... now if it just came in 300 Win mag or 300 RUm.. that would be cool.
BOOM
Ruger Thought they were happy selling .22's, and Super Red Hawks. There's going to be a NEW set of standard features for a off the shelf precision rifle."WOW". A Nightforce scope like that does help a lot

troupe
Ruger has great leadership and is with the game. Great 1911's for the money, decent fighting AR's , great hunting rifles and now Long Range. Way to go Ruger. I am honored to have done many, many 22-45 grips and then to see Ruger incorporate one of my small mods . A sincere thanks goes out to Ruger, as well as Clark Custom Guns. MarkCO
Makes me think about moving my custom rifle that I have not shot yet. I am all of a sudden seeing some lightly used LR rigs show up for what would normally be considered steals. I have not shot one, but if Frank thinks it is even half decent, that says a lot for it. pmt
It's not really suitable for Multi-Gun.
