  1. the big thing I see with shooters at that level is that they really need to do everything other than the shooting faster. I believe you can get BIG gains by moving faster when you do anything but actually shoot at targets. move yourself faster from position to position, don't walk when you can run. don't draw in slow motion because the target you are shooting is difficult, know where the targets are, know where you are going next, plan where and when to reload and do it then. Get a video of yourself shooting a few stages and look for the low hanging fruit and work on that, I bet you will find that shooting slow is not the lowest fruit.

In general guns are way more durable than the general public thinks, in the competition community putting 10's of thousands of rounds on a gun is just par for the course, outside our little bubble people who shoot 50 or so rounds at a time think the numbers we run up are crazy and assume our guns must be worn out because they have 50x more rounds on them than their guns do. I know many of us run more rounds between cleanings than most non competitive shooters run in a life time. Just remember in this game the guns are the cheep part, to use the numbers from above 40,000 rounds of open ammo costs something north of $6,000 and that is probably on the low end for barrel life and ammo cost, so a new $500 barrel every $6,000+ in ammo is not a big deal. I saw a article a while back about a pro shooters limited 2011's passing 500,000 rounds, I'm sure it has had many new parts over the years but its still going.
  4. I would say the situation you described would normally be a DQ at most matches. My point was the rules vary match to match so there is now way to really know what the correct to the rules answer is.
  5. Under what rule set was the match being run? please quote the rule from that rule set that would DQ the shooter. This is one of the BIGGEST problem with most multigun matches being run as "Outlaw" matches, the only rule set is whatever the MD says they are, or even when they are published they are often incomplete and in some cases not very strict on safety issues.
  6. What I think Moto and others are getting at is RELIABILITY is #1 in our game everything else is way down the list, and pretty doesn't make the list at all. I had 2 failures to feed at the WSSSC (shooting factory ammo) this year and it cost me about 9 places in the overall. Unless there is something wrong with it just about any off the shelf 1911 will be plenty accurate for what we do (including 50yd standards)
  7. We do have many targets that are only available at extreme angles, but we set them so they disappear before you get to the 180 the shooter still needs to control their muzzle but at least they cant be aiming at a target while they are breaking the 180

I have been told by a RMI directly and by multiple RM RMI on this forum, that the real interpretation of that rule is not to put targets in places where shooting at them could cause the bullets to go in un-safe directions, such as to the side in a bay with no side berm, we have all seen targets available beyond the 180 at level 2 and above matches so at the minimum we can assume that this interpretation is held bay many in the sport. I personally read it, to keep all targets safe for the shooter to engage when they are available, and so far I have heard no complaints from anybody but the stage set up crew.
  9. That's just bad stage design and building. At the match I run I have a informal policy of no visible target faces past 90deg sometimes it takes a little extra work but it pays off in the end, and doesn't have to dumb down the stage, as for targets being 2 ft away that's just asking for tape to get blown off, and super close targets should be used in moderation if possible.

  11. in CO the optic makes a great slide racker, in my opinion its better than anything you could buy that was meant for Open or Limited, Its huge it doesn't have sharp edges it wont hit your thumb if you leave it sticking up, they just work great.

I would need to see the layout to have any real opinion. did the competitor lean on a wall at a opening intended to be shot through at other targets thus allowing himself to engage targets that were not designed to be engaged from that point? or did the competitor stop at a joint between two walls that were presenting a continuous barrier and move one to create an opening that did not exist in the first place? the first described act happens all the time to some degree and should be expected by stage stage designer and can easily be avoided. the latter would be more of a issue for me, this I would call range equipment failure and with a couple zip ties I would tie the walls together so pushing on one doesn't open a gap. setting up stages for the last several years in a section where the shooters pretty much define the word Gamer, I have leaned that anywhere I think someone could maybe squeeze something through part of a stage the shooters will drive a train through it, sometimes even to their own detriment just because they could.
  14. My $.02 is All Smith revolvers come from the factory as a realy nice kit so you or your smith can build the gun you actually want. Pick the model that is closest to the gun you want in the end and start there.   18. if you look at all the other divisions there is nothing stopping someone from competing up with their existing gear (SS to Lim10, Lim, Open) (Production to Lim 10, Lim, open) (Revo to Production, Lim 10, Lim, Open) but by your logic CO shooters need to be protected from the competitive advantage of not using an optic. ps I also think SS should allow any single column magazine pistol, I don't think 1911 shooters need protection from sig 220s

I believe the optic requirement was put in to stop a bunch of guys from shooting their production guns in the new division to get classified, so they could gather actual mission count data on the new division as intended. This is actually a reasonable requirement for a provisional division as the provisional status is so we can judge the actual interest in the division as a whole and any rules tweaks we may make along the way. If we keep the optic requirement if/when the division becomes permanent that I feel would be a mistake as we do not require the use of competitive equipment in any of the other divisions, we merely limit how competitive you may make your equipment, reversing this would be odd.

I shot one of the matches with him and it was just like Rowdyb drew up, only the gap was closer to the width of the target. a little trick I figured out on these is as the swinger moves into view you can see the lower corner of the D zone appearing well before the edge of the target to the side of the A zone where you want to shoot it, its hard but if you can pay a little attention to that corner of the opening with your peripheral vision you can have a tiny bit more time to react.

  22. I may be one of the guys Gooldylocks was talking about, I have shot just about every division and jump around match to match based on whim and what ammo is loaded or the press is set up for. Up to now I have enjoyed the chalange of changing everything sometimes one day to the next, heck I would love a division where you have to shoot a different divisions gear for each stage. But right now I am having trouble deciding if I want to concentrate on one gun for a while to advance my classification closer to what I feel I am capable of.   23. the point is you CAN shoot one of the darn things one handed without the but stock resting on your shoulder. Much like I always shoot a hand gun with two hands unless the WSB or course design force me to use only one hand.

I think the point most PCC shooters I have seen on here and at the range have is to NOT change the course of fire, if there is a hard lean that most pistol shooters will shoot one handed, the PCC shooters want that same challenge, I cant think of anything I have been asked to do with a pistol in a match that can not be done safely with a carbine. we are not shooting 300 win mags, they are still minor pf guns that are reasonably easy to shoot one handed.
  25. I unfortunately have never had the energy left after working all day or several days to pick up brass, once I'm done running shooters I normally just want shade and something cool to drink and a chair.
