  1. Gary, maybe Steve Rose can help you.
  2. Here's what I think, because I just really like shooting. Wear whatever gives you normal vision, close you left eye, and get out and shoot matches. You won't be the only squinty eyed shooter out there. For a more permanent solution, talk with your optomitrist, maybe even taking your pistol with you, (permission first of course), so they can see to your needs. Only caveat is this is coming from someone that just enjoys the sport, tries to always improve, but has a lot of distractions that prevents me from overthinking it. YMMV, depending on your goals.
  3. I love that my daughter is studying nursing in college, but I hate that her summer class is burning the cash I had stashed for a new CZ pistol.
  4. Keeping an un-needed pistol in your holster makes as much sense to me as shooting a shotgun stage with a rifle slung. Go to the safe area, and do what you have to do. JMO.
  5. I have a basic Stag Model 1 carbine. I tinkered with it cosmeticly, hacked on it, installed a Troy Battle Rail tube. It gets sub MOA, with my handloads. Stag is good stuff.
  6. You already know my name! Lol!
  7. I don't shoot for prizes, and yes, I'm mainly a club match guy except for the odd major I can swing. I think I'm like the majority of shooters at a major, shooting for fun, friends, and the experience. I'm not going to win a gun, I'm never going to be top 5%. I could, if I wanted to, but I just don't have the drive, and there are other things more important to me. As for prize table, random is nice, but I'm not all that lucky, and didn't attend for the "chance" to win a gun. But if the MD wants a random table, fine. Personally, I think if you win, you get top pick. And if you are in an amateur division, if you win and get top pick, you get to be a pro for next years match. JMO, and really I don't have a dog in the fight. If you are a pro, I do believe you should be rewarded for your performance. My compromise would be to have pro and amateur divisions at major matches, (there may be already but only have exprience at one), pro's pick order of finish, top X% of amateurs pick order of finish with a ticket to that particular events pro ranks next year, and the rest of the amateurs get a random draw. That way, those that are driven, can be rewarded, and those that just enjoy the sport have a shot at something cool, too. But, like I said, I'm there for the fun, and really don't care either way.
  8. I just installed a Nordic Components Benelli Nova tube on my dads M3000. The nut fit perfectly without modification. Guess I got lucky. I bought the shotgun about 2 weeks ago from thel local farm store.
  9. 449 at the local Rural King farm store.
  10. Nope, some matches have long guns slung. That is usually posted in the match announcement of slings are required.
  11. If your just using passive muffs, it's probably not enough. Foamie plugs are ok, but at least an NRR 32 rating. However, foamies must be properly inserted. That's the inexpensive route. HearPro can hook you up. I have another brand of molded plugs I won't shoot with, that were custom made at work. They are too hard and the foamies at work perform much better. The reusable universal plugs you can buy are dependent on the size of your ear canal. The work for some, but not others. Do what you have to and take care of your ears!
  12. Lee Loadmaster-not hobby, Dillion 550-fun hobby
  13. I struggle with optics. But I know I can (or could) shoot irons. Sometimes I think I'm killing myself shooting the little black tac optic rifle, when I should be rocking .30 caliber. But a quick disclaimer, I may very well trying to equate what I could do in the past, with what I can do now.
  14. Just wait until you shoot a stage where the long shots are about a minute into it. Some designers are just mean, LOL!
  15. Last year the AM side got out to around 250. But the match director is an evil genius, so take it for what it's worth.
  16. I'll be bringing a complete change of clothes! I don't trust that we won't low crawl into that little pallet hide they made. :-)
  17. Funny how the value of brass is directly proportional with the temerature. And you don't have to worry about someone else scarfing up your brass...of course you don't have worry about finding it yourself either.
  18. Order 4 inches longer than your actual waist, where you wear the belt (actually measure it), not belt size. 1 AR pouch, and mag in back pocket gives you 2 mags, same with 2 pistol pouches and one in front pocket if you need it. Most shotgun stages have a preload, so you don't usually need 20 on the belt. I started off with 12 rounds on belt and 9 in shotgun. Covered most everything.
  19. My set up is a Bladetech DOH, 1 Safariland AR pouch, 1 Blackhawk double mag pouch, an inexpensive Choate 6 round traditional shotshell caddy, and a 16 round load 2 chest rig exactly like KY1911 sells. This is my typical match setup. I also have 4 Taccom quad load caddies that are doubled for my belt if there is a high round shotgun stage. Other than tha QL caddies, nothing is expensive, and all very serviceable. I can upgrade to better (maybe, or just more expensive) stuff, but don't see a pressing need to. However, I may like individual pistol mag pouches better, and maybe a positive retention holster. My advice is you can safely get AR and pistol pouches, but buy or borrow some Choate caddies, while you check out which style you like best. You will always have them if you need more carrying capacity, plus cam lend them to new shooters down the road. Otherwise, you may buy a bunch once, and cry because you don't like several of them. JMHO
  20. I'm no expert shooter, or even anything close to stage designer. But as an best middle of the pack finisher, here is what I like. Hoser stages, puzzle stages, gotcha stages, risk-reward stages. Oh nevermind, I like them all. But basically, I don't think anyone wants all easy stages. We can do that at a range by ourselves. Otherwise, why bother going to a match? As for different divisions, I always figured that is dependent on what someone likes to shoot, not how an MD sets up a match.
