  1. Yes. Details are being worked on, but likely the second weekend of August. More time to practice loading!
  2. Wingnut, I have no experience with Barnes. But everyone is different. I like a rifle that feels like, well, a rifle. So I kept diddling with a standard milspec carbine until I had a fixed stock, and an 18" free floated barrel. I honestly can't say it will better, as in the original configuration it shot better than I can hold at my level. But there is a huge confidence boost that I believe I can shoot it better. Don't get too hung up on the brand, get the one that speaks to you. It boils down to the indian, and not the arrow. If the Barnes speaks to you, that's the one.
  3. Start by checking with your LGS. Many times they will get a good buy on a batch and pass on savings. Personally, I would start with a milspec lower, not some exotic metal or billet job. You can go round and round about which roll mark is better, but ultimately, milspec will hold up and fitment of parts won't be an issue. The only advantage I see to building you own is a sense of accomplishment, and ability to install the exact parts you want such as furniture and trigger groups. Otherwise, there are several competent guns available for our game, such as Stag 3G, Doublestar, Armalite has a new offering, and I'm sure some others. Point being, unless you are absolutely positive of the exact components you want, it's probably easier to buy one already complete. I really don't think there is a significant cost savings associated with building vs. buying a quality rifle. But YMMV.
  4. Don't care how many notches for barrels is in there, ain't no way it's gonna hold 24. But maybe I can try to prove myself wrong. Wait, this may turn into a "what I like" rant!
  5. Same story here. A left over part is just the start of a new rifle!
  6. I have a 788 in .308. Could one be adequate for precision rifle matches? I would probably only be a casual competitor, and I don't hunt anymore.
  7. This^^^^ I've been very happy with mine. They can be found with the Safariland belt clip, but it isn't as nice as the techlok.
  8. I was hoping for another Thunder games, but October looks pretty sweet for Rockcastle!
  9. Why take it off? I just pot a wooden dowel in mine.
  10. I learned that while Strelok is a cool tool, it is no substitute for actual dope from shooting.
  11. For the guys that take off their tube when persuing other interests, about 22" of 7/16" dowel works wonders. But your length may vary.
  12. Thanks for the replies!
  13. My club is starting a Steel Challenge match. Stage diagrams are abundant, but fail to mention plate height. Rules temporarily unavailable on USPSA site. So, does anyone know and willing to share this info with me? Appreciate it! Bob
  14. I just quad load into the empty chamber. Sometimes I get at least one in there.
  15. Lol! I forgot what flippers were called. But I can imagine those two sailing a pepper popper into the air! They always come up with really interesting stages, I'm lucky to live relatively close to Rockcastle.
  16. I don't know what kind of Heavy Duty Launcher it would take, but aerial (pepper) Poppers might be fun!Obviously you haven't shot a Bryan Ray/Brian Vaught 3 gun match yet...:-)
  17. I aim. Probably why I suck at sporting clays and aerial poppers.
  18. Kind of the same, but kind of different perspective. In my situation, I find myself at local club matches sometimes in the role of RO. Sometimes just for a few shooters, sometimes the whole squad. My intent is to take the first reasonably available RO class, because I have an interest. That said, from my perspective, if I can do something better, or see something better, please, please tell me. I can take and appreciate constructive criticism, and have.
  19. Come summer, cut the legs off a pair of jeans and sew one end up. Then you can rock booty shorts and have two covers for your press. Win win!
  20. Gonna be .45. Already set up for limited .40 minor with an XDm I like pretty well. Also use it for 3 gun. Another reason for .45 is maybe HM in 3 gun. Plus, dang it, a .45 ACP 1911 is purely badass. Thanks for all the input! I'll take a serious look at the STI offerings.
  21. Entry level for someone wanting to try USPSA SS division. Not really rock bottom, but reliable and trouble free out of box, with plentiful magazine options an not a lot of tuning. Hope this isn't impossible, but I truly have little experience with the 1911, and have no point of reference.
