  1. I have two six inch Limited guns and a five inch Limited. I almost do not shoot the older 6" and the 5" guns. the extra inch of sight radius helps my corrected vision focus on the front sight.
  2. I wear a lot of 5.11 shorts and hats to matches. I have been a police officer since 1982 and get most of them free from the sales reps at conventions and seminars. My collection goes from 2004 to 2012 ( I've missed 2013 because of surgery). the one I wear most is the black 2001-2011 anniversary commemorative hat. It has the twin towers, Pentagon and 98 on the side to commemorate the 93 police officers that died. I wear the 5.11 shorts because though I am in shape, that shape is sort of round. Most shorts in the 38-40 waist size are huge in the legs. My legs look like two broomsticks sticking out from under two upside down buckets.
  3. Based upon a weeks progress since my last post, I am already wishing I would have done it sooner. I still need therapy work on the supporting tissue, but I do no have the pain level that was present pre-surgery. and I have not been using a cane for the last five days. My therapist is about 3/8 mile from my house and he OK'd me walking to my appointment, with the advice to carry the cane and take it slow. thanks for the support. gerald
  4. had my knee replaced and I am two weeks into therapy. What an experience. I never realized how much trauma the surgery would do to my calf muscles, quads and hamstrings. and after a couple of weeks of therapy I have rally improved. I still have some stiffness and pain, but it seems like it is getting better each day. I haven't been to the range since before the surgery, but if I keep improving I plan to shoot the Gator at the end of October. I know I will be slow but I'm going to try do it. Who am I kidding, I was always slow. Maybe the it would have been better to say "slower."
  5. I had been looking forward to seeing my name in the new RO's section and was very disappointed. That will probably be the only time my name ever would have made it into Front Sight!
  6. I have owned two Para LDA's and while they are not purist 1911's, they were really nice shooting guns. I bought both the 5" and compact LDA to use a duty weapons. At the time my departments regulations di9d not allow 1911 type pistols. When the regs were changed to allow 1911 pistols on a case by case basis, I sold both LDA's to 0ne of my cop buddies. I had some trouble with the Para mags with the metal follower but I understand that this was a common problem with the flat metal followers. My dealer gave me a new Delrin round-top follower for each one of my magazines and the issue faded away.
  7. As of 7/1/2013 so is everyone in the Magnolia State. That is Mississippi for all of you guys north or west of the Manson-Nixon Line.
  8. Well, after 7 knee surgeries to my left knee over the past 20 years I am being scheduled for a total knee replacement. I go into my surgeon's office on the 3rd of July to do all of the pre-op work up. I have known for some time that this was in my future, but it still caught me a little by surprise. I always hurt, especially after major matches and extended practice days but the last two weeks have been intense. My shooting partner, Gerwin texted my that TGO had knee replacements and has done well. If I thought I would be able to shoot like The Great One I would replace both knees and both hips, And as a side note, Gerwin immediately offered to buy my guns and gear. I think I'll hold off on any fire sales and hope I will not be out for too long.
  9. I had sort of the same issue you describe with a Glock 35 with the stock barrel. I was loading 180 grain wichester FMJ's at between 1.118 and 1.125. The nose of teh bullet kept deflecting up, and it seemed to me like the sharp angle on teh truncated cone bullet was contributing to the problem. A friend gave me some 185 Precision moly-coated bullets and I started loading them as long as the magazine would take, right at 1.140 ( I know that 1.135 is listed as max COAL). The Precision bullet is a round nosed flat point design that seems to feed better in both my Glocks. since I started loading the Precisions long from the start I am not sure whether it was the langth or the bullet profile.
  10. Yes we do. And we also don't go to family reunions to get a date. except for a couple of cousins that are very good looking and kind of wild. Welcome to the forum, and ya'll come back.
  11. Mine have all been washed and/or run through the dryer several times each. Putting the remote fob in a container of dry rice works wonders. Both of them still work.
  12. Two remotes! When I ride to an out of town match with my shooting buddy, he has me keep one of his remotes in my pocket. Not only is it a back up, but I don't have to look for him to get the keys to get in for re-supply.
  13. I imagine the copper washed iron (copper over iron) would be extremely hard on the range's targets.
  14. Welcome to the site. Where are you in South MS? There are several good clubs in South MS: Biloxi Practical Shooters shoot every second Saturday, Pearlington shoots every third Sunday and just outside of Poplarville shoots every second Sunday. And there are a good bunch of guys near Jackson.
  15. If you think Brian is dating himself, I actually got to see Jimi Hendrix at the old Tulane Stadium in New Orleans in 1968. I was on restriction for about 4 months for coming home a little late (about 7 hours).
  16. AT the MS Classic chrono stage I hit 168.9 out of my 6" AKAI with a 185 Precision Bullet over 4.6 grains of VV-320.
  17. I too have been shooting red, but it has been fuzzy of late. I have been thinking it i may need new glasses but maybe I should give green a try for these 61 year old eyes. Or maybe try an open gun I got about a year and a half ago and never really shot much.
  18. Great match, great staff, great squad mates, great stages and somme really great shooters. and a really great job by all the shooters on the tear down.
  19. I have used a cut off paneling nail in a pinch.
  20. That looks like an old "RACE" gun from the early days. I have one based on a stainless Gold Cup from 1984. It is chambered in .45 ACP. I was not involved in USPSA/IPSC then so I am not sure when they began to change from .45 to .38Super. They are cool guns, but probably will no fare well against modern Open division race guns in .38 Super/Super Comp/.38 TJ and 9mm Major.
  21. You are most probably making the same errors at 5 yards that you make at the longer ranges. The angle of the errors is the same, but as the range increases, the distance between the shots increases. An error or 1/2" at 5-7 yards becomes very significant at 25 yards. At police qualifications I hear guys sayin that I do good at 3, 7 and 15, but go to sh-- at 20 and 25.. the mistakes are the same, but up close the shots still score and at teh longer ranges they are D's or misses. On a positive note, you are doing the right things to imnprove. Keep working.
  22. Hammer fall, or hammer follow?
  23. I have the casing and case head somewhere. I'll find them tomorrow and post a photo. I never did find the extractor. Glock did not charge for repairs (I had to pay about $80.00 for next day air).
  24. I feel you guys. I gout out of the 'cycle riding world in 1981 after the birth of my first daughter.
  25. I had a kaboom in a Glock 35 in 2010 with FC marked hollowpoints. This was new-old stock duty ammo, not reloads. The case head separated and the extractor went into orbit. the gun was about two weeks old and had never fired a reload at that point. so I also recommend against the old FC marked cases. I have used and reloaded other cases marked "FEDERAL" with no problems. YMMV.
