  1. Mike your mixed brass and you will most probably note that much diffrence in the lengthof the unloaded, sized cases. You will also probably note that there are variances in teh extractor groove and teh case head thickness which both could cause a variance of your OAL.
  2. Yep. Only "Boomers" know what a Fanner 50 is.
  3. I tuned mine by buying tuned magazines from Brazos. STI mag tubes cost too much to be worked on by me. I have this history with Dremels, files, sandpaper, etc. I ususally end up ruining something and it cost twice as much as if I would have bought it in the first place.
  4. I also used a 13, and for a while a 12 pound spring on a 35 and a 24 with .40 major loads at 169 power factor. If I were loading light laods I would most likely try a 12 or 11 and see how it went.
  5. Thanks for your service and welcome to the best site for shootin' stuff.
  6. Ain't it fun getting a new gun. I had a new one come in this week and until it was delivered I checked the Fed Ex tracker about every 15 minutes. I haven't anticipated getting a gun this much since I was waiting to get my Fanner 50's (SAA sixshooter type cap guns: ask your OLD friends) for christmas in 1958. Congratulations.
  7. Have you tried teh 9mm in your .38 Super? After reading about it on this forum, I fired some factory 9mm, and some 9mm Major (loaded longer also) and they ran without a problem. the consensus is it may work as is, or you may have to change or tweak your extractor. The mm. factory I shot was from 9mm/.38 super comp magazines. My open gun has a gunsmith fit .38 Super Aftec extractor and although I haven't shot it in a match but will in the future as my old azz eyes get worse.
  8. Not to hijack a thread, but UPS has twice advised me not to ship next day air, because they were unhable to actually deliver the next day to the addressee. the pistols were sent second day and charged a lower rate.
  9. Every guife rod I ordered from Dawson came with a reverse plug.
  10. I believe Shay uses SVI barrels in the Samurai.
  11. As posted previously, the ones listed are amaing smiths. You also might want to check out Gary Natale at Gan's guns. He put a new barrel, slide, andinternals on an older Eagle for me and did a tremendous job. He received the pistol on monday and I got it back on Friday, complete with a brand new matte blue-job on it.
  12. Just finished "The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor". Every american should read this book so they will know what kind of men are members of our armed forces.
  13. I once attended a course that taught that if the tap, rack, bang was unsuccessful, you were getting way behicnd the curve. The instructor offered for consideration going straight to dropping the mag, rack and insert fresh mag and rack. It takes longer but usually works the first time.
  14. My 6" Akai I just pickde up today.
  15. A little while ago I picked up my new gun. Here are some quick pictures. I ordered it from Shay around the first of October and it is more than I hoped for. Too bad it is too dark to get to the range now.
  16. Shay shipped my new Limited gun yesterday, and the Fed Ex tracker reports it has left Memphis heading for the Mississippi Gulf coast, with an expected delivery at 4:30 PM CST. This kind of remnds me of when I was a kid, watching the TV NORAD reports on the progress of Santa Claus.
  17. I have said for years: Need ain't got nothin' to do with it. The two most important things are do you want it and do you have the money to buy it. I like expensive, custom built/high end firearms and I own a bunch of them. If you don't have a pressing need for money, keep the STI and get a production gun. As has been mentioned, you may begin to shoot more and will kick yourself for selling you custom Limited.
  18. Three weeks ago I also ordered a 2500 round case of Precision 185 moly's and received an e-mail that they were on back order wtih an expected delivery of 4-6 weeks. They were delivered to my house on the 14th, a couple of days short of three weeks. Not bad at all.
  19. Maybe someone will began selling those double barrelled slingshots. I saw Jethro Bodine with one he got from his sister Ellie May Clampett wayy back in the 60's. this multiple shot sling was way ahead of it's time and I heard that it was banned in California in 1968.
  20. welcome to the best shooting site on the planet. Are you going to shoot Pearlington, MS on Sunday? Tom and teh guys run a really fun match. You are welcome to come to our second Saturday of the month matches put on by the biloxi Practical Shooters.
  21. I had this issue with my DPMS LR308 when shooting winchester 168 grain Ballistic Silvertips. The first round from the mag was always 1-1 1/2 left. when shooting Gold Medal Match the first shot was dead on, as were all the rest. It did notseem tomatter if I locked thebolt back and used the bolt release or the charging handle.
  22. This is the picture Shay sent me of my gun. I sent him the blance today so my FFL should have it in soon. I can't wait.
  23. I will be at the Mississippi Classic in May if I don't get up there before then.
  24. yeah I know, I misspelled pistol in the title.I am a little exicted. Tthe gun is a 6" .40 that is hard chromed. If you check the Akai site (acguns.com) it is almost like the Samurai model with minor changes. The day it is delivered to my FFL I will post photos. I paid 2/3 of the pistol price as a down payment and am sending the other third in the morning.
