  1. Back in August I cracked a slide on my STI Limited gun. I Finally got the tri-topped, in the white sldie from STI. I sent it to Gary Natale of Gan's Guns. While I was waiting for the slide, I ended up getting a new bull barrel (in place of the bushing barrel), new springs, new fire control parts, new gip safety, new sights and new pins. I kept teh old frame, grip and grip safety. The parts arrived at Gary's on Monday, 11/26/12. I got the gun by Fed Ex this morning, all nicely fit and reblued in a matte fisish I requested. How is that for a turn around. And Gary also answers e-mails promptly. This gun looks likde a stock bull barrell Eagle, but man it shoots, and teh trigger is awsome. Kudos to Gary.
  2. This is one of the movies we used to "re-create" in the back yard. I was the only kid on the block that had a real .30 Browning tied up in a machine gun nest in an oak tree. the barrel was plugged and it had a coulple of big torch cuts through the receiver and bolt, but man it was cool.
  3. I an thankful to be alive, I am thankful for my family, escpcially my wife of 35 years that hlped me pay Akai Customs guns for a new pistol I ordered, and have Gary Natale fit all new parts to an existing frame. what a woman. I am thankful to live in this country, even with teh problems we perceive we have, and I am thankful for all teh fine folks I have met durin the teh two years I have been a USPSA member. HAPPY TNAKSGIVING Gerald
  4. I loaded at 1.185 for about 6 months, and recently extended that to 1.210. My gun will shoot factory ammo, but it hcciups on feeding every once ina while at the factory length.
  5. You're right there, but I also see lots of STI's that do not have very much STI to them either.
  6. I started two years ago with a Glock 35, then went to a Glock 24. I was improving, but slowly. I then traded for a tri-topped Eagle, and progress got better, and I started having more fun and shooting more. Then my slide cracked and while I was getting the money together fot have it rebuilt, a friend loaned me a "nice" 6 inch STI with a THR Tehcnoloigies slide. That gun is nice. I really started having fun and got a little better. I eventually bought the 6inch pistol from him, and teh 5" will go out to Gary Natale on the 21st of November. So right now, The 6" gun I have is my unltimate Limited gun, but I have a sneaking suspicios that it is my "ultimate" becaue I am shooting it more, soing better and thus having more fun. what do ya'll think?
  7. At the Gator Classic/Area 4 there was a Texas Star that did not move, set behind orange snow fence that was soft cover. I saw a bunch of shooters waaaay better than me get bumfuzzled when teh star did not start moving at all. Or maybe it was that orange fence just in front of the muzzle.
  8. Just finished James Clavell's Tai-Pan about the settling of Honk Kong by Europeans. Tomorrow I will order his novel Gai-Jin. I already read Shogun, which is a paralell for the Takagawa Clan taking over Japan in around 1600. I have Veincent Bugliosi's Outgrage, and I will get to it soon, but every time I try to read anyting about O. J. simpson I get mad all over again.
  9. Have you visted Shay's website? Go to acguns.com. They have re-worked the site fairly recently and have lots of pictures and information. You can even send Shay an e-mail from the site, but keep in mind, he is like a lot of the in-demand builders and is very busy.
  10. Appreciate the link. It mentioned two pisolas I have not thought about in years, the Steyr GB and the H & K VP-70Z. I bought a VP-70Z from a company that offered surplus police guns and advertised them in a full page add on the back of Shotgun News. Two other cops and I I each bought one for $299.00 along with a plastic holster and two or three magazines. The trigger pull (all D/A) was like 22 pounds and a local "gunsmith" agreed to smooth it up for me. It was lighter alright. 18 founds in about a second and a quarter. It would go full auto, sometimes, but yu never new when. I knew the military model had an attachable stock that activatred the sear, but did not know the imported ones still had teh class II sear in the frame. I sold that gun pretty quickly to a guy that did nto mind taking a wheelbarrow of 9mm ammo to the range. Sorry about hijacking the thread, but that was one "interesting" firearm.
  11. On mu duty rig I have an Uncle MIke's Quad single stack pouch. I reall like it. I normally shoot Limited with a 6" STI, but cayy my Kimber gold Combat when I work in uniform (a couple of days every month or two, or special events). I do not shoot SSTK division so I do not know if they would fit that criteria.
  12. I don't have that problem at work. If I get a littl "down time," I just head over to teh training classroom and put a little time in ont eh F.A.T.S. machine. i wish I coould afford one at home. The operator can cuase the "Blue Fire" glock to malfuntion, and you have to drop the mag to clear it. Compressed air/nitrogen charges teh mags and will power the cycling slide.
  13. This guy's skills ar not only sick, he must have been born without a fear gene. I know nothing about down hill cycling, so I have a question. It almost appeared as if some of the turns (corner?) offered alternat routes. Is this the case? Maybe a route that is quicker, but entails more risk? Even if this is incorrect this was awsome to watch. Many thanks to BE for post the video.
  14. I'd never laugh when anyone checks their chamber twice. I have noticed that all of the guys that have the same routine all of the time at LAMR, ALWAYS beat me. So I have begun to emulate some teh the better shooters' routines. It ain't making me shoot better, but it is helping me concetrate which has resulted in less mental errors, so I guess it is halping me to get better results. who'da thunk it.
  15. Welcome from teh golden Gulf Coast. Ya'll come visit sometime.
  16. It was on the gun when I got it, but I am pretty sure that it was an add-on, alont with teh beaver tail gripsafety, ambi mag release, compensator, extended thumb safety and slide stop, and gobs of very fine checkering.
  17. I have an old "race gun" single stack .45 made on a stainless 1984 Gold Cup that has the slide blackened. I like teh two tone look. the slide was fit with a Wichita adjustable sight.
  18. I think if you look closely, you will se the sights are the narrower front and the narrow notch of the of the pre-1927 1911 ( pre A1). there were some Argintine colts' that were made in Hartford and were marked with Argentine Army crest. As to value, I do not know, but I have seen a bunch of them. but in your case, the price was very right.
  19. The SF is not really slimmer, it is shorter. If you have large hands and shoot a 20 or 21, yu will probably not notice it. If you are like me and have smallish hands, you immediately notice it feels easier to grip wtihout shifting you hand to get the sights aligned.
  20. Blue Cheer, Hot Tuna, It's A Beautiful Day, Moby Grape, MC5.... the list is endless.
  21. You never, ever forget your drill instructors or your FTO's. 30 years as an officer and I still remember to thank my first FTO when I see him.
  22. Here's a colt from 1984. It's a stainless Gold Cup, one port compt, wichita adjustable rear, magweel and checkering everywhere.
  23. I stood on one end of the belt and pulled until I got tired. I rested then pulled again. After I got three pouches, on I decided that three was enough, and i would load my Limited out of my pocket.
