  1. If its a budget thing why in the worl would you go a 40 open gun? IMHO a 40 open gun is a huge mistake.
  2. +2 Ugly but normal. Once you put the grip back on and get it as dirty as it should be, you will never know. You see the damage overcleaning will do.
  3. OH great, now I have to start looking for my next rifle. I have been thinking about replacing one of my long range bolt rifles. A JP in .260 would be just the ticket.
  4. Start leaving well enough alone. Shooting it will do a better job on the rails.
  5. Chuck the powder die up in a drill press and polish down .001-.002" An EGW U die will also help keep case tension up. Crimp is the wrong term. Its a flare removal step.
  6. You may want to call Berrys and tell them about the accuracy problems, and try some new bullets, many of us had problems with undersized bullets from them last year. Seems to have been fixed now.

Static electricity, wipe down inside and outside your powder measure with a dryer sheet.
  8. It broke exactly where a heat treated hard metal part would normally snap. Right at the thin area with no radius on the edge of the drilled hole. If you think about it, this is the same area a firing pin retainer or a slide always cracks. With this design its inevitable for a tiny fissure to slip by in mass production every once in a while. Unless we take great pains with our parts to prevent stress fissures, parts will break. These are the F1 cars of the sport and the stresses are extreme. If you have not altered, IE bent or otherwise screwed up the extractor Deric should replace it no questions. Note: if you did try and bend an AFTEC, you made it brake. They are NOT tuned by bending, that is not what the heat treat is there to accomplish unlike a soft normal extractor. From what I have seen they are a great idea that have been well tested and accepted in a sport that wears out and breaks every part on a gun. I use one on every 1911 I own. If you are going 20 feet to pick up brass its a slide velocity and ejector problem, not an extractor issue. Look for "big" cracked parts in the future.
  9. Dont forget when pushed hard the .243 has a reputation of being a barrel burner even in bolt guns. 3-gun rifles tend to shoot many more rounds quickly than Hi-Power rifles.
  10. U die needs to be in your list as it is setting the standard. The Dillion die is flaired to much at the bottom. While this speeds up press opperation it hurts feeding in your gun, where it matters. All the other dies are just the same as normal dies.
  11. One shot in the aerosol can is the standard by which all are judged. However I have been using size-All by CP and it is slicker. Spray either one in a gallon freezer ziplock with cases, roll to coat and poor in hopper. I still clean all rounds with food grade silicone spray and a towel after loading.

Wow what a weekend. Another Florida State match under my belt. Woke up Saturday at 4:30 and drove down to Frost-proof feeling like heck, walked up to Wadette and tried to pull out of the match. Being last minute she said I couldn't have a refund and I would have to "sell my entry or win my money back" . Being so tight I squeak I couldn't just walk away and told my self to buck up, take more pain reliever, quit whining and shoot. Note to self Wadette is always right, also don't over do the pain relievers. My first stage, Stage 5 Visiting Dr. Painless " painless my ass" went much better than I expected. I thought I was going to pass out as I unloaded and showed clear. I just knew Mike S and Eva B would stomp me into dust by the end of the weekend. I was squad-ed with a first class great group of guys and gal, really the Open class super squad . Paul W who I know has it in him to set the Open class standard, James C who "when I listen" gives me great instruction and advice "I think he is about to stop", Tim M who I finally got to compete with and watch tear up stages, Joel D who moves like a cat, Jody R who is as impressive as a shooter as well as looker. Jody pulled a "perfect" double, the only way to tell it was a double was the grease mark was darker on one side of the hole, also there was no way to miss the target and not hit the wall. Eric S walked over occasionally to talk, give moral support and stage advice. "Must remember, quick like a bunny" . The other stages Saturday went better than I expected. Thinking I didn't have to reload and could run a 30 round stage at a major match was a mistake. Had to do a panic reload on stage 6 and blew it bad, hit the mag well and launched it over the prop "better to plan them out" . Threw a miss on stage 8 that cost me a smoking run "2 misses during a match can really cost some serious points and places". Drove home 80 miles in the evening with a major stomach ache "note to self don't take to many pain relievers they will tear up your gut". Also dont be cheap, get a hotel room and avoid the drive. Drove back down Sunday morning feeling quite a bit better, just 2 aspirin to dull the ache. My first stage I got an education on edge hits and using an overlay. The overlay rings are quite a bit bigger than my Zero bullet grease rings. "Need to find something to use with asthma that wont hype me up". Solid on my second stage and threw away second place A class with a bad rope pull and stupid miss on stage 4 "flat forgot to shoot the paper twice" no idea why? just flustered with the rope pulls. Overall really glad I listened to Wadette I did win back 1/2 my entry, had fun and learned alot. Congratulations Bronson C, A class winner 4th overall at 94% only 50 points behind Paul. "A class my butt" Someone get this kid an M card. Great match Paul W Florida champion, who is this Guida guy anyway must be a New York Bedell conspiracy. Note: My Bedell shorty ran like a sewing machine & didn't miss a stroke all match, not that it ever has. Mike S. great job +32 points, you got me "This time". Thank you everyone for the help and support it really made this match worth it, friends and springtime florida sunshine what a great combo. Drove home, ate dinner, went to work 3rd shift, then finally got to bed after a 29 hour day and long weekend. My chiropractor and wife both think I'm nuts.
  13. Great job with the video as usual Sharyn. This is what we need for every major match, a quick montage showing all the stages. Nice job shooting as well, at 73% you beat up on many tough competitors.

If you figure it out "let me know". Went out to the range today to test some loads. How does a .458" diameter 405 grain slug at 1900 FPS with a 770 power factor sound? Or how about 350 grains at 2000 FPS? My little open gun loads were a wimpy 169PF. Can't run yet, but I could stand around and watch the dot dance over some plates. Could barely get out of my truck when I got home. Need lots of ice on back and shoulder.
  15. I just figured it all out,,,,,ITS ALL A GIANT CONSPIRACY....... My big match results at Frostproof prove this.
  16. You need to get your tail down there Saturday morning and hand in your entry fee. "Why have all these toys if your not going to play?"----------The Wife Sounds like a great quote to me....... Lets see, 4 days off work, 3 chiropractor bills without copay being met???? Hard to get ready mentally much less physically. Did go chrono today though.

24Feb07 My second match HOA win, of course Paul wasnt there so it doesn't really count. 24Mar07 Shot 4 1/2 stages great after a month layoff, no practice, and a Caribbean cruse. Then all hell brakes loose, I blow my back out then push myself through the next 2 stages. Give the win to Hacksaw JC by 20 match points, he should be whipping my butt anyway, Paul has gun problems 28Mar07 Need to get to the range and chono, I cant run yet but at least I can walk and climb into my truck and drive the 5 whole miles to the range. Still commited to making the FL State match, dont want to go minor as my quickness is going to be way down.
  18. 84 for a monthly match, It is the Gunshine state. How many does Rio Salado get?? James flat out shot me, his smokin run on stage 3 gave me a new goal. Blowing out my back on the 4th stage, and possibly not making the State match is a bummer, as of now I have missed 2 days work and spent a fortune at the chiropractor. Things are not looking good.
  19. Oh great, add asthma to the list of problems I am having this week.

You could go over and see this piece of "rare vintage civil war era history"? And also see where the legendary Wild Hogs was filmed next door.
  21. Had to buy a 6 pack to test out.
  22. I run the Wolf 55gr FMJ in my JP for local 3-gun matches, as well as use it for practice in my "serious" rifles. It runs for about 400 rounds in my JP with a light carrier without cleaning, and about 1K in my go to rifles. Underpowered yes, dirty yes, but still shoots 1 1/2" 100 yard 10 shot groups in my JP and works the comp well. Not what I would ever use for "real world" but for play and practice its great. I have shot about 8K of the polymer stuff and have had good luck. I have not seen the gun store commando hype about extractor problems, the case is soft pot metal not really steel and the case never touches the chamber as the polymer acts as a lubricant. Its better to practice with live ammo than not practice at all. A miss with good ammo wont win anywhere.
