  1. This is great advice from someone who knows alot more than I do. I went through all the effort to take one apart, then found carb cleaner & Kroil does do a good job cleaning the piston assy. Run it wet and it cleans up easy. If you had more time and money than I do, you could use a valve spring tester to figure out the spring rates on the Clays and regular pistons and make one in between them that may just be the hot setup?? Or you could just have more time and money than me??
  2. There is alot to be said of not having to meet people face to face. Also dont like anyone coming by my house.
  3. Funny I made a tool that looks alot like this a couple of years ago using the same things. Pat. pending my tush.. hard to patent all-thread, nuts, scrap steel and a ground up socket. If the gun was ran dry for a ton of rounds it could be carboned up, I run my piston wet and it just wipes clean and the insides stay clean. A good soaking in Kroil will clean it up. The best reason to get this is to modify the spring rate to create your own lite clays piston by increasing spring rate and tuning your gun to the loads.
  4. Shooting Fri. will begin before the sun is even over the berm, it will be peaking over by about the 6th shooter in the squad. Awards will normally end about 2 hours after sunset. Late enough its just about impossible to catch a flight out of OIA.
  5. It all depends on where you are. Here in the East a dot is fastest on most courses, out West some magnification in handy although some are winning out to 300 using an EOTech. Stick your dot on and go shooting, try out others at matches and see what is winning where you are.
  6. Try this on for size. Work 24 off 7, work 24 off 7, work 24 off 7, repeat till sick.............. Lathe and mill are expensive

  8. Go here and see what and where you can shoot in the next month there are a bunch of matches in Florida and its a great time of year to shoot. Open would probably be the easiest place to start. http://cfrpc.com/IPSC/ipsc_events.html
  9. Try chucking up the powder funnel in a drill and polishing it. Use Hornady One Shot or Size-All case lube. Put a bunch 2-300 in a gallon freezer bag spray them, roll them around, and reload smoothly away. Lubrication is good
  10. You may want to shoot a couple of local matches first. Titusville, CFRPC, Port Malibar and Frostproof all good central FL matches that will prepair you for the Open.
  11. Just got in my Gold Clays gas piston. You can try it out and see if it fixes the finickyness, my gun needed more gas with the heavy 3 1/2" spring and light loads. My Barrel is at Briley being fitted with chokes after I shortened it. They offer a hunter choke package that is slightly cheaper than the full thinwall package.
  12. Remind me and I can show you what it looks like with my limited gun. From the sound of it you should give Dan or Benny some work. Unless Paul has been faster than me at buying a mill?
  13. "IMHO" Yes Super or Super Comp is the way to go if you are a GM trying to win at a big match. You then need the little bit of extra efficiency the slightly larger case capacity will give you. When you are in that top 10 rare air the gun WILL make a difference. For the rest of mere mortals that need the practice much more than we need the cutting edge of gun performance, practicing LOTS will help more than the gun performance. And getting that extra 2 in the big stick does help! For ME at my level, "A-class", it is purely practical & financial that 9mm is the choice. It allows me to shoot Open and practice, practice and practice some more to improve the myriad of other skills I need to improve. Not to mention its just fun to listen to Super shooters whine about brass.
  14. First have you shot using an AICS stock? They are great shooting but just dont fit some people, depends on if you like holding a 2X4 or not? I do love mine, although a McMillon with Badger metal will be my next long range rifle. George at GA has one of the best reps in the busness and can build first class any way you want to go, give him a call.

  16. I tried several cleats before I settled on a winner. Criteria for me. Must have great grip on wet/dry grass. Good grip on wood boards and concrete wet and dry. Not sink or skid in sand or hard pack. Black is hot no matter what its vented like in the summer sun. Mid rise or higher for support. Adidas Corner Blitz Mid. cleats were too hard & slippery for concrete or wood and they only came in black=HOT. Reebok NFL Workhorse Mid. softer spikes and good fit, but only in black and a little slick on wood planks. Only in black. Most sport hikers = slick on wet grass. Tactical boots = Same as sport hikers just more expensive. And I hate to call anything tactical unless its being used by someone who goes through doors for a living. Merrell Chameleon Trail Multisport. My comfy practice shoes, dont stick as well as I would like in grass when putting on the brakes. Nike ACG trail running shoes. The old ones with the cleat tread were my stanbys for years but just don't stick like cleats in grass. And Nike narrow size only. Under Armour Hammer Mid Football Cleat. New model in the game, seems to have good traction on all surfaces, nice wide comfy fit. Only come in nice hot black although they are vented well, and I could'nt get over the $$$ price. Any cleat with hard spikes will kill you on wood or concrete, plus driving to a match in them sucks. #1 for me IMHO = Nike Landshark Mids. Aggressive spikes stick like glue in wet grass, soft enough rubber spikes that actually have decent traction on wood and concrete. Now in wide sizes for us with duck feet. They come in White & red or White & blue and are cool in the Florida summer. Available and on sale cheap $ everywhere year round so you can try them out and not feel broke.
  17. We buy a new toy=We shoot more? We shoot more=we get better. He who dies with the most toys wins.
  18. Shooting open has sped up my limited game, the hard part for me when transitioning is remembering the limited gun has a REAR sight and not to shoot the dot from my front sight. Lots of the going fast is realizing just what fast is and how fast you really can go. Open will open your eyes as to what pure speed really is, its neat going back to a limited gun or a Glock and thinking the slide is moving in slow motion.
  19. They do smoke. Not as much as lead but the do smoke. Also try Berrys plated and see what shoots for you. Still prefer Zeros.
  20. The problem is IDPA says 5" is not tactical enough to be legal.
  21. I will be there, and I bet my feet will be killing me after 4 days and how many miles?
  22. Clays can be scary temp. sensitive, be glad its not the other direction.
  23. Florida Open Feb. 16-18, US Nationals Steel Championship March 15-18, Florida State Championship March 31-April 1. Going to be a busy---------expensive spring time in Florida.
  24. Hate to admit it but the english do know shotguns. Of course its there only choice.
