  1. I have built up a browning gold turkey with a Briley 8 rd tube and springs, its works great for limited, the 1st round auto feed is great and adds some speed. You do need the spring kit for it to be 100%. I removed the rear fiber optic sight and shoot it faster close in with just the front turkey fiber optic sight. The browning seems to shoot softer and faster than my 1100 and much more reliable and softer than the Benelli I got rid of. There is no side saddles availible but I used an Eagle shell holder on the forearm and its great.
  2. go to AR15.com and check out their mag facts section, you will find a wealth of information on all types of mags. For the most part USGI is the way to go, you can add green followers for $1 each if the black follower jams in that mag, out of about 40 USGI mags I have and use only about 10 have green followers and they all work great. Do not pay any extra for a Colt marked mag as Colt didnt' make them anyway, they are just marked that way, I have used good USGI mags from Parsons, Okay, FN and others, just make sure they have enough welds in the back. As for 20 rounders, I use the old USGI with metal followers to shoot highpower and CMP and they work great. The plastic mags work in some rifles and not in others, I tend to use them in three gun where i'm dropping them on a hard surface when I dont want to screw up my USGI mags, AR15 mags were never designed to be that tough, they are light. The steel mags from England are tough and last forever, they work just like USGI just a bit heaver and well worth the $18-22 they are selling for, Dillon is selling them for $20 with green followers. Welcome to the world of ARs you will never go back to the mini14 after finding out how the AR kicks its butt.
  3. To shoot CDP in IDPA you will need a gun with a bushing if you want to shoot a full size gun. There is no differance in accuracy between a bushing and non bushing gun, although a gun with a bushing is easyer to tighten up as it wears. The advantage of a bull barrel is it is heaver allowing faster followup shots due to lower recoil impulse, that is why most shooters are using full frame guns in limited, and many use tungsten guide rods. An adjustable sight single stack 1911 with a magwell added on will serve you well starting out in USPSA L10 and you can also use it in IDPA CDP. I have followed that path, and as many others now shoot an S-I in Limited, but still shoot my single stack 45 in CDP, although IPSC has pulled me away from IDPA for the most part.
  4. First decide if you want a nasty competition break that will work great for doubletaps but feel like your shooting an open blaster IE an AK or Mini Y comp, or do you want an A2 style break that looks like it belongs on an AR. Take a look at the kurts Kustom breaks, I have a couple of them and they are great. They are efficiant and the side blast isn't bad, plus they are the best looking on the market.
  5. I tried out 180s and 200s but found that 230s shoot much softer with less blast at major, IE I can shoot 230s faster. I use 230gr. West Coast plated RN, at 1.25" with 3.8 gr. Clays, 738FPS, 169.7PF, SD is 8. This is at 75 deg. F. out of a 5"Kimber singlestack, 12.5 Lb. recoil & 17 Lb. mainspring with a Wilson buffer. It is very soft and clean, no signs of pressure and the cases are even clean inside and out. With 200s & WCPRN I used 4.4gr Clays to make major at 1.25" good shooting just more blast, and slower splits. I still want to try 250gr.
  6. Shootergrrl; Thank you, but I have done search after search and never found the info I needed, I e-mailed both Limcat and Garcia and recieved nice replies from both, although Limcat did seem to have much more confidence that his holster was the best on the market. Last week I was able to try out both side by side and decided on the newest Limcat, yes I know you are a fan also. Tokerev; You may want to e-mail the individuals and see what holsters will fit, I had a criteria of the same holster fitting both a 1911 and an SV/STI and only the Limcat would work using inserts, the Garcia needed a different holster. The Limcat is better looking, takes 1911's and ST/SVi's and seems to have great fast support, is more proven, yes its more expensive, you always seem to get what you pay for. I'm still Looking for that $1600 Brazos Pro Limited.
  7. This hurts, Seattle's Best actually sells good tasting coffie, vs. Starbucks overroasted under ripe Sara Brady supporting tree hugger sludge. After 10 years in Seattle I developed a palate for good coffie, you need it when the high all year long is 80 and it rains on you all the time. Yes, it is the prettiest city in the US (when its not raining).
  8. Armalite and Knights would love us If we did this, however all it would do is raise the cost of playing the game much higher than it already is.
  9. The Springfield loaded's are nice, take a look at the TRP also. Kimber also makes some nice guns. You will like having a magwell, adjustable rear sight and fiber front. 45 is the way to go if you want a single stack that you can shoot both IPSC and IDPA and you are right about mags. A 40 will not allow you to shoot CDP class in IDPA. However most seem to want STI/SVI limited gun in 40 after getting started. You also may look into having a single stack built from scratch, I have met a few smiths that can build one up for less than the cost of a good Springfield or Kimber that has a magwell and adjustable rear sight.
  10. The same footwear you mow the grass in.
  11. There are new versions of both with nice hanger systems. The finish is nicer on the Limcat but the Garcia is a newer revision, both guys have my total respect. Has anyone compared the 2 side by side and used both? Which one do you prefer? WHY? Not interested in pure speed but overall utility; like can you draw from a partial lock position? how easy is the release to operate at speed? I understand when ether is locked it is secure but what about unlocked? Can you switch them from an ST/SVI to a singlestack and back? If you have ether used for sale feel free to e-mail me.
  12. How about your local friendly police department range.
  13. What have you used? And what are the pros and cons of a very lightweight slide on a major limited SVI/STI? How well do the super light slides work? I/E the slides from Brazos and EGW with lightning holes or cuts? This is based on a C through A class shooter not a Grandmaster that needs a short dustcover gun due to swing speed. I understand the simple physics of acceleration and deceleration, but does the higher slide velocity hurt feed reliability with a 40S&W based pistol? It seems using a heavy lower I/E long&wide with a heavy magwell and a super light upper using heavy bullets would give you the best of all worlds. Also do the guns with holes in the slides spit slide glide everywhere hurting your grip on the gun?
  14. Shooter girl Not only girls have hips, we have to contend with our sides being wider than our hips. Its muscle you know?? I am sure about the CR belt and the Limcat mag holders, I like the Limcat holster but have not ran in one, and have not gotten used to the muzzle hanging off in thin air. The Limcat hoster seems well made, it better be for the price!! not sure about the retention. It does look good though, not that that SHOULD matter
  15. If price were not an issue, and you were starting over and had to buy all new equipment to shoot an SVI/STI limited, what belt, holster and mag holders would you purchase and why? Who would you buy from?
