  2. I'm in the same boat...however mine isn't Dawson Tuned....it was purchased from Dawson (who claims to check the gun out before shipping it). Magazines are put together using the Benny Hill formula (ISMI springs, Dawson followers and basepads). I've got 5 magazines that hold 19 rounds and all work. I ordered the gun from Dawson the way I wanted it....and this year got it hardchromed (after deciding that I wasn't going to tweak anything else). It runs and runs. I'm not saying that Custom's aren't nice...but I'm here to say that there is another option and that option seems to work quite well (and cost less) than a custom built.
  3. Try loading some up WITHOUT using the factory crimp die. When I was loading MBs in 45ACP, I had a similar problem. It seemed that using the FCD would actually result in loosing crimp...for reasons I didn't fully understand. One theory is that the FCD would actually resize the bullet smaller and then the brass would spring back and you'd loose crimp that way....another theory is that on the upstroke the brass would "flare" at the mouth and loose tension that way. Again, I don't know what the exact cause was...but I quit using the FCD with 45ACP and the problem went away. I'm loading MB's now in 40S&W (using the 180gr bullet) and Dillon dies and no FCD...I've never had a problem with bullet setback or losing crimp.
  4. I didn't know the classifier was tossed either. Last time I shot it (in L10) was back in Sept of '05. Your percentage would have been 70.161 in L10.
  5. Do you guys find these to be much more snappy compared to a 180gr over 4.3gr of TG?
  6. Linda...is there any proof of this? I've heard GaryS and BruceG make the same comments but I'm wondering where they're getting data to back up this statement ...or has someone made the statement based on "gut feel" and repeated it enough times that others just repeat it also to the point that it becomes "the truth?" In my neck of the woods, people aren't shooting SSD because a majority of the competition is shooting L10 and they want to shoot where everyone else is shooting...so they shoot L10 and not PSSD (on average, there is about one or two people shooting PSSD per club match). Any new shooter who is shooting Production to get classified, is probably going to stay in production...and not immediately switch over to PSSD once classified. If the argument was true (about them being concerned that they wouldn't get a classification in PSSD...so they'll shoot L10 instead)...then once those shooters got classified, they'd switch to PSSD and start shooting that (if they were really truely interested in the division)...and that hasn't happened either. I just think that before the BOD decides to officially adopt PSSD (and it sound like the original requirement of 8-10% now is meaningless because the BOD can vote it in at any time...even if the number is something closer to 3% nationally...which it seems to be the case based on club and large national matches) that they need to TRUELY address the popularity of the division...and not base their assumtions on a "gut feeling". Insert your last sentence from above....here.
  7. 5.1.3.2 “Optical/electronic sights” are aiming devices which use electronic circuitry and/or lenses. Appendix D9 13 Optical/electronic sights permitted No Flashlights have electronic circuitry and also have a lense and a reflector
  8. From the 15th edition rule book: Caliber -- The diameter of a bullet measured in millimeters (or thousandths of an inch). From the 2008 Draft rule book: Caliber -- The diameter of a bullet measured in millimeters (or thousandths of an inch). Come on! How can you possibly interpret "caliber" when used in definition of barrel as meaning cartridge. If they want to say cartridge....SAY CARTRIDGE.
  9. You shouldn't be spraying them around in any match. Most of our matches here in the NW Section have 6 to 7 stages and require typically around 150 rounds to complete..but throw in one (or two) reshoots on a large stage...and you'll wish you came to the match with at least 250.
  10. Last time I checked.....10mm and 40S&W WERE the same CALIBER. They're not the same cartridge...but they are the same caliber. So what if you can find a 40S&W barrel that is the same LENGTH as the 10mm barrel in a G20? Seems like you've covered both the same length and same caliber issue.
  11. Not to thread shift too much...but did anyone else notice how well "tape" worked here as a physical barrier and guided movement through the course ..... rather than stupid fault/bourdry lines placed on the ground?
  12. See here regarding comments made by John Amidon regarding changing the finish in Production Division. Regarding changing the barrel to a different caliber. I think John commented on this once too...basically saying that Glock never shipped a G20 40S&W from the factory so you couldn't do that....but I'm not Amidon ... and I don't play him very well on the web either!

    Colts Win!

...and I bet Springfield and Kimber are pissed....oh wait....those Colts!
  14. It comes down to which gun you shoot best (the difference between widebody or single stack makes no difference, especially if you've got alot of time doing reloads with a single stack...and it sounds like you do). So go with which ever gun you feel most confident in or have the most experience with. I shot L10 for YEARS with a single stack until switching over to Limited last year (and experiencing the widebody difference) and I can tell you that if you know what your doing, the size of the magwell means nothing.
  15. Been there...done that....asked similar questions: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...opic=16931& The long and short of it.....initially you feel like you're going backwards....then the newness wears off and you go back to what you were doing before....and you start kicking butt all over again. This is normal...happens to everyone.
  16. Well if you like baseball (and who doesn't???) there's the: or....if you like shooting USPSA matches, you can always find a match on any given weekend in one of the oldest sections in the USPSA. http://northwestsection.org/

You're not the first to say that. This was featured in this weeks Seattle Times. http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/...e=20070122&
  19. You'd be surprised. After the last rule book change, there were many occurances locally of how many rounds you can put into a no-shoot (that count), how many targets you can take sight pictures on, steel no-shoots in the shape of IPSC targets, what "in the box" and "not in the box" really means, what does "unloaded" gun mean for a starting position, etc. Often, I wish the RO's knew the rules better. Maybe we should make it a 50 question exam every year? I see no problem taking a short recert exam every year. Mine happens to coincide with my annual vacation...so it gives me something to do while on the plane.
  20. If a tuned mag means getting a 20 round mag thats reloadable and untuned means getting a 19 round mag thats reloadable....I'll take the un-tuned ones. I bought my STI Edge from Dawson back in May....bought the parts for 3 magazines (Dawson basepads and followers, ISMI spring) and just recently had the gun hardchromed by Virgil. I decided to wait on the hardchrome just in case I decided to do something externally to the gun (which it turns out I did'nt).
  21. I'm afraid that image might trigger something in some individuals!
  22. The 2007 Area 1 License To Thrill website is up and running! http://northwestsection.org/2007Area1/index.html
  23. In my case, I'm running 4.3gr of TG with the 180gr MasterBlaster bullet loaded to 1.175" Runs about 169pf out of my STI Edge. Very accurate load. You notice smoke when your shooting into the sun especially when the sun is low in the horizon.
  24. Yeah...talk to Virgil about doing this. He explained the process to me once (basically reversing the current and putting the part in a tank with solvent). Virgil is the go-to guy when it comes to all things plating.
  25. thats funny because thats the exact setup I'm running. When I made the switch from L10 to Limited (and BTW, I went with a STI Edge purchased from Dawson), I asked TDean how to build magazines. He told me that Benny recommends Dawson followers and ISMI springs (and of course I love the design of the Dawson basepad so I had to use that)....and thats what I did. I've got 3 flawless magazines (19 rounds) and am building another 2.
