  1. 10.1.3 A competitor disputing the application or number of procedural penalties may appeal to the Chief Range Officer and/or Range Master. A competitor who continues to be aggrieved may then lodge an appeal for arbitration.
  2. How can an arbitration committee arbitrate an illegal stage? Edited to add (from Bruce's comments). Scoring disputes are the RM's bag....procedural penalties can be taken to an arb panel.
  3. I'm wondering if this might be a "trick" for the latest "can you count" classifier. Blast the nearest target strong hand only and do a really quick reload into the second target...might cut .5 seconds off the reload doing it that way...and the targets so close you shouldn't miss strong hand only.
  4. I don't shoot production...but I have shot Single Stack which requires one to slow down a little also because of ammo management problems. My approach for SSD is to make SURE I hit the target when accuracy is important (because I can't afford to miss and make a make up shot) and go like my hair's on fire everywhere else. Angus Hobdell did a radio interview with Matt Burkett (www.mattburkett.com) a few weeks ago and he was basically saying the same thing you are....for production he slows down a little and also tries to compress the distance from himself to the targets to increase Alphas. Matt archives the radio interviews. I'd recommend logging onto his site and downloading the Angus Hobdell interview and listening to it.
  5. that myth has been dispelled many times in the past. A competent 1911 shooter who PRACTICES gives up nothing to someone shooting a widebody gun in L10....and a magwell on a 1911 makes things even easier yet. If you want to be competitive......practice reloads all the time!
  6. I bought my Edge from Dawson Precision. I had them replace the recoilmaster guide rod with a tungsten guide rod and change the front sight to a FO. My mags were built from "parts" (STI tubes, ISMI springs, Dawson follower/basepad). The gun has run PERFECT since I got it a couple months ago. I couldn't be happier!
  7. I did the velcro trick...but I took it to the next level too. I've got a safariland inner/outer belt. I put the hook velcro pieces on the INSIDE of the surface of the pouch....then placed a piece of heavy clear mylar over the hook velcro...then slid the pouch onto the belt and positioned them where I wanted them...then yanked the mylar out. Those things aren't going anywhere now!
  8. ...and finally; MasterBlastersBullets @ www.masterblastersbullets.com I've shot a pile of these things through my guns (40 and 45) and have been very happy with the results.
  9. Are you grinding the bottom / shortening the die in order to get more of the casing into the die? Right after I got my Dillon 40S&W die set....I found Eric's post on how to de-glockify a Dillon sizing die.... http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=carbide I talked with Eric and the proceded to take my sizing die to the grinder. I did one other tweak....put a washer under the primer punch head to back it up slightly. This mod works GREAT!!!!
  10. So, do you suppose that's one procedural per piece of gravel? -Chet exactly! That's whats grey about it. Lets say you see a rock located somewhere you plan on going during your walk through....if you kick it off to the side....are you "interfering/altering the surface" or perhaps you have to kneel somewhere...and you see a few pieces of brass where you plan on putting your knee down....ouch! So you move them off to the side....oh look...he's piling up brass as a marker! Ding him!
  11. Looks like the NROI is now resorting to "grey" areas of the rule book for exam questions! I think the answer to this one might be 1 based on rule 4.5.1. Placing/making "markers" could be construed as "interfering with the range surface" and would result in one procedural penalty applied for each occurance......all based on the RO's discretion and interpretation of 4.5.1. 4.5.1 The competitor must not interfere with the range surface, natural foliage, constructions, props or other range equipment (including targets, target stands and target activators) at anytime. Violations may incur one procedural penalty per occurrence at the discretion of the Range Officer.
  12. When I started doing dryfire practice, I also used 1/3 scale IPSC targets at about 3 to 4 yards. Then I read some threads here that doing so didn't exercise the far-to-near transitions necessary for dryfire practice. So next, I set up 3 full size IPSC targets at 13 meters (one end of the kitchen to the far end of the living room...IPSC targets in your family room make great conversation starters ..... especially when the FBI shows up at your house ) and placed a bright 3" square post-it-note on each target to help my mind locate the scoring zone. I practice this way for a few weeks and then removed the post-it-notes. The great thing about this dryfire technique is that I'm seeing full size targets at distances I'd typically be seeing targets at actual matches.....so I'm seeing in practice what I'd see on an actual stage.
  13. I've recently switched divisions from L10 Single Stack to Limited....which means switching from 45ACP to 40S&W. I went out and bought the Dillon 40S&W die set and then started reading all of the posts about using a EGW U die do de "glockify" range brass....then read this post by EricW: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=carbide I talked with Eric and got some of the specifics (like how much he took of the bottom) and thought "what have I got to loose?" by trying this. Took my die to the bench grinder and then belt sander to finish it up. I've loaded about 500 rounds of Glock Range Brass without any chambering problems (STI Edge) and no need for caselube or any of the other funny stuff people use trying to get the U-dies to work.
  14. Worked for me! Its pretty cool to look at ranges around the country using Google Earth...even better looking at ranges around the globe. They've got some nice looking ranges over in Europe!
  15. I probably should have thought of that earlier. I measured the diameter of my spring coils (.050") and counted 11.5 coils, which means I've got .55" of stacked up coils. The plug measures about .50" below the follower itself...which means my spring is going into full compression before the plug would make contact with the basepad. Rather than messing with cutting coils..I think I'll just live with the fact that I've got 19 rounds....after all...one round isn't gonna really make all that much of a difference....is it? Don't answer that!
  16. I'm just beginning to explore the wonderful world of 40 cal and Limited after spending years in L10 with 45ACP. I live pretty close to Tom (Stidham) and have talked with him over the years about powder selection and the Poly bullets. I know Tom doesn't recommend TG with his bullets and suggests using Ramshot Competition instead...however I've seen a couple local shooters shooting Competiton powder and it looked like a black powder rifle going off....I figured that TG couldn't be any worse (and after hearing the praises around here for it, I thought I'd buy a pound and experiment). I started with a load of 4.5gr of TG, with a MB 180 loaded to 1.18" and tested it over my CED chrono (using an STI Edge with a 5" barrel); I was making about 174PF with it (initial testing was at an indoor range, the loads were later chronoed outside). I dialed the load down to 4.4gr and tried again. Below is the data for it. 4.4gr TiteGroup, 180MB, 1.180" OAL High: 965.8 Low: 927.8 E.S.: 38.0 Ave.: 948.6 S.D.: 10.0 PF: 170.1 (based on a weight of 180gr. MBs can run light). One of my buddies is also loading the MB 180 bullet but using N320. We did some "smoke tests" shooting loads into the sun (worst possible scenerio for smoke) and also used a 200gr Montana Gold bullet over Universal Clays as a comparison. The N320 load and TG with the MB 180 smoked about the same...the N320 load was a little softer shooting. The MG 200 with Universal Clays was considerably more smoky and had more recoil (this was a fellow shooters load....after she shot both of the 180 loads, she decided to switch her load to a MG 180. She said that her load still didn't feel as soft as the N320/TG/MB combination but was much better than the MG 200). I'm entirely happy with the TG/MB combination. The recoil feels great and the amount of smoke seems on par with anything else I've seen.
  17. ....or it could be because I bought my gun (STI Edge) from Dawson Precision....and they really DO go over the gun and make sure it works before they send it out! I think I'll leave my followers alone....I'm sure Dave knows more about followers than I do!
  18. yeah....basically thats what I was thinking...shave a couple hundredths off the bottom of the "plug" part. I was thinking the same thing about "tipping" when compressed...but then having looked at Bevens follower (and its lack of a plug) I was thinking maybe it wasn't entirely needed....but then maybe the Grams spring/follower combination won't tip because of the way the spring attaches to the follower. At worst case...this would be an $8.00 experiment if I destroy the follower. Thats interesting Eric....so far all three of my mags have been completely reliable loaded to 19 rounds. I haven't had a single problem with this gun or magazines yet...which means either I'm really lucky...or there isn't as much "rocket science" as I thought there was to Limited.
  19. I've just recently made the switch from L10 (Single Stack) to Limited so I don't know all the tricks of the game yet...so you'll have to forgive me if this ends up being a stupid question....or common knowledge. I've built my mags using STI tubes, ISMI springs and Dawson followers and basepads. I'm getting 19+1 out of all of my magazines but I'm thinking about making one "cheater" mag to see if I can get one extra round into it. It seems, looking at the Dawson follower (see attached pic) that trimming some material off the bottom might increase the capacity by a round. I looked at a buddies Bevan follower yesterday and notice it's quite short compared to the Dawson follower. So before I go and start modifying the bottom of the follower to see if this works....has anyone else attempted this? Does it still work OK and how much does one have to trim from the bottom?
  20. Thanks Sam! You've just summed up my (and several of my shooting buddies) position is on this! Ed Yup...Sam hit all the key points. Single stack guns give up nothing to widebodies in L10 (unfortunatly there are people who refuse to believe it....but then they've probably never heard of the word "practice" either). I'm my case, I've seen the handwritting on the wall and decided to get of the boat before it sinks. I started shooting USPSA with a single stack gun in Limited before there was L10. When L10 was created, I shot that and loved it. But then Single Stack comes along (which like Sam, I feel brings NOTHING to the party that L10 doesn't already cover) and there is talk of dumping L10. Yes, I've written letters to my Area Director and MV on more than one occasion about my feelings regarding L10...but I still hear (see Gary's previous post) that there are forces in place to kill of L10 and replace it with Single Stack. I have no interest in shooting Single Stack with production equipment and 8 round mags. I like 10 round mags and race holsters...but the powers that be in USPSA apparently have something else in mind. So what did I do? I sold off my Custom Shop Springfield and bought an STI Edge and switched to Limited division.....because I won't shoot single stack division....and 10 rounds in Limited isn't going to be competitive (I learned that a long time ago). Its too bad because I really liked shooting L10 with a single stack.....but I'm not waiting for the rats to leave before the ship sinks. At least now I'm shooting a division that USPSA isn't going to kill off!
  21. Single Stack??? Whats that? Actually when I shoot single stack, I use a traditional Hellweg belt and put my mag pouches all over it. However now that I'm shooting Limited....I have no intention of going back to single stack. The more I read about Single Stack and L10 on the active threads running right now...the more I think I made the right decision at the right time. Shooting Limited is a blast!
  22. I did the velcro trick...but I took it to the next level too. I've got a safariland inner/outer belt. I put the hook velcro pieces on the INSIDE of the surface of the pouch....then placed a piece of heavy clear mylar over the hook velcro...then slid the pouch onto the belt and positioned them where I wanted the...then yanked the mylar out. Those things aren't going anywhere now!
  23. If you've got a GI Joes in your area...try them out for LandSharks...thats where I got mine.
  24. I'm in the same boat...I asked for "permission" to take a couple days off a pretty hot project were on for the Area 1 match, 3 months ago....and was told that working a bunch of extra hours would help in "granting" that request. Since when did having to work extra hours become an accepted requirement to getting to take the vacation hours you earned? The one GREAT thing about Area 1...... I WON'T be at work!
  25. So any word on squadding or a match book yet? A few of us are "car pooling" from Seattle and it would be nice to know if our schedules are all the same or different (which determines how many cars we need to drive down).
