  1. "competitors at Level I matches may, without penalty, receive whatever coaching or assistance they request." It would seem (based on previous responses in this thread) that the shooter could request "coaching" and that someone in the peanut gallery could then yell something to the shooter...without penalty to either the shooter or peanut gallery person. I think it would be better to specify WHO the coaching must come from (e.g. the RO) to prevent peanut gallery from yelling suggestions during their run (confusing both the shooter and RO). The last part of 8.6.2.1 (receive whatever coaching or assistance they request) almost seems to imply they must define WHO they want the coaching to come from. Is it OK for them to just say "I want coaching" or must they say "I want coaching from you (the RO)? Or is it implied that the coaching can ONLY come from the RO in 8.6.2.1?
  2. Yes...yes, why yes I am! Seems that simply attaching the wrong word to a product can be the death nail regardless of any other attributes. I'm expecting Dawson fiber optic sights and Redding seating dies to now be deemed illegal simply because of a word.
  3. I also have a Dawson Edge pistol (runs great BTW). I'm running at 1.18" using a MasterBlaster 180gr bullet.
  4. I got my latest Front Sight magazine tonight (finally!!!) on page 30 is an advertisement for Dawson Fiber Optic sights....it says that the sights were designed by World Class Grand Master shooters (I'm guessing they must be competitors!!!) and to order the sights....you are instructed to go to www.COMPETITIONSHOOTERS.com! A website for COMPETITION shooters!!! To buy COMPETITON shooting equipment! Using your example above that anything that is cataloged as "competition" is not legal....would make the Dawson fiber optic sight.....illegal? On page 31 there is an Redding advertisement for COMPETITION seating dies for handgun cartridges....
  5. I sure hope they are....I think most people would agree that the FRONT of the carrier (by IDPA definitions) is the same side where the tension adjustment screw is.

    Buying Cars

Eric...go look at a Mini Cooper S. Quick acceleration, great gas milage, go-kart like handling....less than $30K....and best of all...you won't look like every other "honda civic" on the road.
  7. Its on tomorrow....small glitch in the plans for today.
  8. Yep, it's dead. Don't know why. Our webmaster may be doing some work on it. I know I've been working him like a slave driver to add all the Sponsors to the website. The website was being transfered from one server to another...its working now.
  9. Hey Hopalong...my advise (not that you asked for it) is to keep your CRO status current but just lay low for a while. Years ago, I let my motorcycle endorsement on my drivers license lapse because I sold my motorcycle and figured I'd never buy a new one....a few years passed and I found myself wanting a new bike again.....which meant I had to go through the process to obtain an endorsement all over again...a PITA! Do the recert exam...stay current...because some day you may wish to play "CRO" again and otherwise would have to go through the process all over again (possibly including the year wait between RO and CRO classes).
  10. Ya know....last time the USPSA cut loose a bunch of new classifiers (2006), a bunch of problems were found in those too (by members here)....it seems the same thing has happened again. You'd think that they (the USPSA) would post them here (or on the USPSA forums) for review before making them official and avoid any revision process AFTER they were released. I wonder who the 1911 Design Team is....this oversight (and others) seems like they should have been caught on the first pass without having to expect shooters to understand what they "intended".
  11. I think part of the issue here regarding the perceived impression about changing things is found in the Michael Bane interview with Dave Thomas. Dave pretty much eludes to the fact that the location will change out of California at some point in the future because of the "politics" in CA (won't say anything more than that because of forum rules)...and then Michael Bane takes the ball and runs with it. The take away from the interview...is that it's leaving California and that the Mike's sold the rights to SC to take it to the next level...and maybe taking it to the next level is contingent on leaving California (assuming the "next" level is a higher rather than lower one?)
  12. Look what happened to the Kitsap range 2 days after it snowed!
  13. I've got an STI Edge.....it runs great with the stock STI extractor. I ordered one of Brazos extractors as a backup....prepped/fitted it and installed it...ran it for about 200 rounds without any problems...pulled it and went back to the stock extractor. Get one of the extractors from Brazos...I think they're $20 or so...and run great in STI's.
  14. I've done this before....except it was a pepper popper...prepped the trigger...gun went bang before I was "planning" on pulling the trigger..popper dropped. I wouldn't call this USGH. I was once RO'ing a stage at a Area championship....stage had two low targets on it (i.e. in a pit) a wall and then two other targets at normal height...shooter had just engaged the two low targets...and was looking toward the two next targets...when the gun went off. The round impacted just to the right of the right target...I thought about it for a split second...and did nothing. Why? Because the shooter could EASILY argue that he was engaging the target with an extra round. I won't DQ unless I'm 100% sure it would stick. I've even engaged targets before while not looking at them....nothing in the rules says you have to look AT the target to engage it.....I wouldn't recommend it...but I've done it.
  15. hey...where's the sign up sheet for this stage? I know a couple other local shooters who'd like a run at it also!
  16. www.cases4less.com has probably the best prices on Pelican cases. I've got the 1300 which works great for one medium sized pistol.
  17. Imbedded software design engineer -- 23 years with my current employer (not all of it doing software...did hardware before...software is more interesting).
  18. I've got an STI Edge purchased from Dawson Precision....now maybe my Edge is not a representative sample of the lot...but when I tried #1 on it...the slide velocity was similar to that of a slug....it was way to slow (this was on a day when the temp was about 60 deg or so)....I didn't experience any feed failures...but I didn't like the way the gun was running....so I switched back to Mobil 1 as my lube. Comparing my slide to frame fit...I tested it against Lisa Munson's SVI and it felt nearly the same.
  19. I think the intent (had to get that word in there) of this thread is to show that some standarized meaning of terms should be adopted that would be "gamer proof" and could be used at the local and national level. Sure the Match Director could have been consulted (we all know that) but what happens if the last squad of the day happens upon this and none of the prior squads bothered to call the MD for his interpretation.....maybe the other squads game it...maybe they didn't...who knows....stage inconsistancy is what you're left with. It pretty clear here that there isn't a clear concensus of what "from Box A only engage Tx...from Box B only engage Ty...from Box C only engage Tz" really means....can you re-engage targets? If you can..where can you re-engage them from? To say that the course designers are too busy/lazy to write a good WSB and that we should just follow their "intent" is a cop-out. The game is freestyle and its our job to figure out what the best way to shoot it is while following the rules. If we had some standard guidelines (perhaps set down by the NROI) to follow, then it would be clear what the stage designer wanted and you wouldn't have to bother going to the MD to get his interpretation of what he thinks the stage designer intended. In the mean time its up to the course designer to SAY what they want....like using phrases such as "only engage Tx only from Box A" or "engage targets from Boxes ONLY" or "Tx may not be re-engaged outside of Box A", etc.
  20. I'm really happy I bought my STI edge from DAWSON and feed it a steady diet from my DILLON press! All three companies put the word SERVICE back into customer service.
  21. Ok..for the sake of this discussion....pretend I didn't say anything about steel on the stage (note: there was steel on the stage and the only reason I brought that up was to curtail any discussions about "virgina count" or Standard, etc. RickB was trying to make things easy for the discussion to limiting it to "paper targets". This was a comstock COF using boxes at a level I club match to try and make up for the lack of walls/props to restrict shooting views.) Sidenote: around these parts the use of ONLY in WSB are used with care. If you have a target T1 and you wish to restrict ALL engagement of that target from Box A, then the WSB might read something like "engage only T1 from box A only" (note the use of double only's). However if you have a starting box and you want the shooter to engage a group of targets from that box (and no others from that box) but wish to allow the shooter the option to later reengage a group of targets...the WSB might read something like "engage T1 - T4 only from Box A, engage remaining targets as visible" This means that you shoot only T1-T4 from Box A (don't even think about engaging T5 from Box A) and then step out of Box A and engage the remaining targets as visible. Since you've already complied with the WSB of engaging T1-T4 from Box A, you may re-engage them unless the WSB tells you that you can't (T1-T4 may not be engaged outside of Box A, etc). The use of ONLY/ONLY prevents the "conditional" comments in the WSB if you really wish to restrict all engagement of a particular group of targets from a specific position.
  22. a few minor data points...its not a true standards because standards require more than one string...and this stage didn't have that....it also had steel on it (which prevents Virginia count). Don't get hung up on the "standards style" comment. It as just your typical club match stage trying to get the shooter to engage targets from particular shooting boxes....its just that the WSB was confusing and opened up the option of re-engagement. Continue on.......
  23. I think I'm going to adopt the Bruce Gary "handshake" and punch you in the arm when I see you next! I'm sure Oregon has enough capable RO's to run the match....I'm just planning on running IN the match.
