  1. thread shift (back to the beginning) ...and yet we're all in agreement that the right thing to do in the situation of a shot through hard cover that continues downrange hitting a paper target that can't be resolved....would result in a reshoot of the COF....without a rule number to justify the call. Somethings they tell you in RO/CRO courses aren't in the rulebooks. It would be nice if the rulebook covered every possible scenerio and spelled out every consequence...but we all know, its just not possible. The problems arise in these gray areas...where some RO's rule differently than others.
  2. I guess you're not seeing my point. What rule is the basis for a RESHOOT? (please state the exact rule number....I'll save you the effort, there isn't one.) Second point....3rd party arbitration for awarding a reshoot for a rule that doesn't exist. And thats all I have to say on that...this issue is impossible to debate because there are no rules for this situation.
  3. Incomplete score is a different problem....not related to this. The RO will issue a reshoot....but there is no rule in the rule book that legally grants a reshoot....and further, there is no rule in the rule book that gives guidence on how to score this problem. We're basically faced with a delima here! No rule that grants a reshoot, no rule that defines how to score the target. The only fair thing to do is grant a reshoot and hope no one 3rd party arbitrates it. Suppose for a moment that Shooter A happens to have 7 no shoots just before he pops another one and that round happens to hit a target down range. The RO can't score it.....and orders a rehoot! Shooter B is in a close race with Shooter A. Shooter B isn't really happy that Shooter A just got a reshoot after having a crappy run! Guess what might happen next!
  4. So did I, thats why a I asked a similar question to my RM. I've played RO at major matches before and wanted to know what the right answer was.....more importantly a right answer that would hold up under arbitration.
  5. I had this same discussion with a well known RM a few months ago and got the same answer (reshoot). The reason I asked in my earlier post to "state a rule" was a bit rhetorical...because you can't state a rule..there is no rule in the book that covers this. There is no benefit of the doubt either. When I asked this particular RM about someone ARBing this ruling (reshoot) based on no specific rule cited....I found that someone ARBing this would have to come up with a valid way of scoring the target given the present set of rules (which again don't give any guidence on how to score this situation). Here are a couple of other interesting scenerios: 1) Shooter puts a round through the hard cover...realizes it and shoots a make up shot on the target (total of 3 rounds fired at the target). Target has 2 holes in it. Did the round fired through the hardcover hit the target or not? Were the two holes in the target the result of shots after the shooter realized they hit the hard cover and are real hits? 2) Shooter puts a round through hard cover...realizes it and shoots a make up shot. Target has three hits (A/C/D). One of them didn't happen (9.1.6.1). 9.5.1 says best two hits score...but one of those hits didn't happen....there is no benefit of the doubt. I think in all these cases, the only thing you can do is mandate a reshoot (even though there's nothing in the rule book that says so)...but I'd be bouncing it off the RM before making that decision. Hi Floyd...and Bruce!
  6. So just to complete this discussion...which rule would you state to warrant the reshoot?
  7. Regarding TG and MasterBlaster bullets. I located pretty close to Tom Stidham and started using MB bullets just about the time they started up. I've talked with Tom numerous times regarding my experiences with his bullets and powder (I started out using his 200gr 45ACP bullet and Clays powder). Tom had always warned about using a fast powder and his bullets. A year ago or so, I was talking with Tom again about his bullet performance and he told me that he had changed the coating and that the new coating would work better with faster powders. My 40cal load is 4.3gr of TG and the MB180 bullet. The only time I notice smoke with this load is when shooting into the sun....other than that, I don't see it. Another shooting buddy and I did some back to back tests between his N320/MB combination and my TG/MB combination. I would say that my combination had maybe 10-20% more smoke than the his. While running our test, another shooter was using Universal Clays/Montana Gold 200gr bullet and their load was about 100% smokier than ours. My recommendation. Get yourself a pound of TG and N320 and load them up and decide for yourself....I think you'll find that the TG/MB combination works just fine.
  8. I shoot with Darrion almost every week. He's as safe as any of the safest shooters in the section. In fact to my knowledge...I don't think he's ever DQ'd a match. Regarding not looking where you're engaging/shooting. 100% correct. There's nothing that requires a shooter to look where they're shooting. While I was RO'ing at Area 1 a couple years ago, there was an array of low targets over a wall that the shooters had to engage. One of the hot-shot guys came through and blasted both targets with 2 rounds each and then looked to where he was going with his gun still pointed down toward the two targets.....and fired a round. I thought about it for half a second and that was it. Did he intend to do that? I don't know. Was he "engaging the targets"....could be. Did his round hit the target...nope..missed it. If I issued a DQ...would it stand? Not a chance!
  9. Hi Jared. I just checked the USPSA Classifier upload status page and it shows that the 2 Kitsap match results were processed on 4/10....however it also indicates that only 2 classifier scores were uploaded....one for each match and in both cases, it was Stage 1. I've never uploaded match results but I'm guessing there might be some check box that indicates it a special classifier match when the data is uploaded? Either way, I think the best thing to do is to wait and hear what the match MD has to say.
  10. Well actually I hosed it down with break cleaner just before shooting the picture....that and having it hardchromed makes it really CLEAN looking!
  11. Well....I will know...but I won't see it! Ok...that it...I'm never cleaning my gun again! Thanks everyone for the responses. Glad to know that my guns not any different than the thousands of other STI's out there.
  12. So I'm doing a DEEP clean tonight of my STI Edge and notice this..... I can see light through the frame on the back side where the right side of the ambi safety lever channel would be. Doesn't look good...but maybe thats normal and I've never noticed it before? The lever on the ambi is not contacting the frame here. Is this anything to be concerned about? Gun is less than a year old....probably 2000 rounds through it...bought from Dawson Precision.
  13. A BIG +1 to that statement!
  14. Interesting....it seems a majority of the bike pics posted here are sport (performance) bikes.....hmm...what's that tell you? I wanna go fast comes to mind!
  15. Sti Edge 5.0" 4.3 gr of Titegroup using a MB 180gr bullet, loaded to 1.180".....runs 169pf
  16. ....this just in July/August 2005 Front Sight. Chronoman Report: Elevation and Velocity.
  17. When I did 2005-A1, I stayed at the Val-U-Inn....don't let the name fool you, it was a really nice hotel and about $70 a night as I recall. I found it by searching user review on a website called tripadvisor.com. It had high reviews so I thought I would try it....glad I did. The only negative was that I wasn't in the match hotel (Rubys?) and had to drive there for the awards...but that wasn't that big of a deal.
  18. If there was...it wasn't enough for me to notice. I'll see if I can find that issue of Front Sight tonight and let you know.
  19. There was an article a couple years ago (maybe less) in Front Site that addressed the affects of altitude (or more specifically air density) and velocity. As I recall, the author found there was very little difference (holding all other variables constant). I'm guessing you might see maybe 10fps at best going from 2200 to sea level. If you'd like, I can find the article and let you know what the answer is.
  20. Shot this one yesterday. 5.24s down 4 points in Limited. If the Ohio Calculator is correct, this one just pushed me to Master in Limited....wasn't expecting that until a little later. Oh well....good way to start the year off.
  21. 500 miles, that's... what... 3 hours on one of those things? What a wuss! (I did it door-to-door in 6.5 hours of air-conditioned, ipod-cranked, radar-detector-on-high-alert comfort...) 3 hours without cops.....30 days with!
  22. Hi Bruce..yeah to bring everyone (who doesn't care) up to speed, 2 days before my trip to Missoula for A1-2005 by car blew a radiator. Bruce had offered to schlep all of my stuff over while I rode my bike....a Yamaha R1. It would have been a great plan if I was riding from oh say...Spokane to Missoula.....but by the time I would have made it to Spokane from Seattle, I'm guessing my butt would of had enough of the "fun". The autoparts store bailed me out and got me a radiator 1 day before I left.
  23. When I headed over for Area 1 in 2005 (driving from seattle)...as I was coming down the backside of the pass...the only thing that went through my mind was.....I wish I was on my R1..and hanging off in the corners!!!! That is a great road and it had been years since I had been on that stretch of I-90.
