  1. Made mine out of 5/16" rod which I than covered with heat shrink tubing... No scratching issues and if it gets nicked or torn I can just shrink on another...
  2. You get some "loafers" every so often, some people are like that... On the other side to even it out though you have someone like we had this weekend who gets Dq'ed on the first stage of his first match and then spends the rest of a beautiful sunny day taping and setting steel for everyone!!! Gotta respect that.
  3. I have found that in the MANY times I've shot in the pouring rain or cold/snow (Hey, it's Vermont) my times are higher but my accuracy is better. I link this to slowing down thus making time for better shot placement and less chance of blowing past a target. I also get my range practice in when my schedule allows which many times means practicing in the same type of conditions which I'm sure is important. So, I would have to say it is a mental thing. If you get yourself comfortable in those type of conditions you will have an obvious advantage over those that are not prepared that are at your level of experience. As it has been noted before, those that are REALLY good are REALLY good in any condition so I only concern myself with bettering my performance....

I'll trade you straight up for the once eaten Steak Dinner with the wine and desert included.....
  5. I really didn't care for the large either and the mediun felt small. All that was corrected however when I had the front strap and rear inserts stippled. It's an aquired feeling but I love it now.
  6. I hang a large blanket behind the paper targets I use when indoors. Wrapping the lower end of the blanket around a dowl and tying to the ceiling allows the blanket to hang in a J shape which creats a trough to catch the BB's. Pretty simple set up...
  7. My local GS had a pretty good stock of primers on hand of all of the major manufacturers. First time in a while I've seen that many. Walked out with 5K Win Large pistol, $27.00 per K......
  8. I just push the white plastic shoulder clip (Dillon, Delrin Shoulder Washer ) down out of the Fail Safe bracket with a screwdriver leaving the rod attached to the crank. Pull the 2 head pins and remove/dump powder from measure tube.... I spend more time switching for primer sizes than I do the powder measure.
  9. We had as many at our March match as we had at our largest match in 08 (July) Add to this the fact that there was still a couple of feet of snow on the ranges and the start temp was below 20deg ( sun came out and we were in the forties later) and you'll understand how big a deal that is. We actually had too few score sheets requiring some of our craftier members to build new ones. It seems we are gaining new members each month. Keep in mind to shoot that day also meant people spent the day before doing set up in weather that was worse than match day. For those of you who get to shoot year round in warm weather, this is what we Northerner's call Sport dedication!!!!
  10. I use a small dremel cut off wheel and cut slots in mine. This allows me to loosen or tighten as needed. I actually get mine where I want them then loctite them so I don't need to worry about loosening.
  11. Duracoat-- Lars Larson Commie Pinko....
  12. Must be the .45 gang shooting those funny looking LSWC have a new excuse (myself included).
  13. I bought a bunch of base pads to have as spares, their cheap. I've only had to replace 1, I check them after each shoot since I do a tear down and clean if they had hit the ground......
  14. You may want to leave longer in the freezer... I left mine several hours. As far as the heat goes, your going to cause the metal to expand not contract. However, if the sight is set with loctite it may then loosen when cooled. Be careful and don't use to much heat, temper change could result... Oh, and the FO rod will go Bye Bye.........
  15. "Upon start signal, engage T1 through T10, PP1, and plates 1-4 as they become visible. PP1 activates T5". I think your activating T7 ????
  16. I had to drift the front sight on my Pro also. I soaked with a penetrating fluid and then stuck the slide in the freezer for a while. Was able to use the drift punch and hammer method to loosen it. After that I chucked the punch in the drill press and used that to make finer adjustments.... With the FO rod cold you have to make sure not to hit it at all, you'll only get one chance on that!!!
  17. Getting up 2" is quite a bit doing it at the floor level. If it's not going to end up being a tripping hazard I would go with a standard cushioned mat sanwiched between 2 pieces of plywood. The bottom could be of construction grade with the top being of a denser higher quality grade. This would give you up to A 4'X8' space to work with. If you want it to look great you could use wood laminate (glued ) for the top layer and add trim around the edges.
  18. Living in Vermont you would find that the Snow and Cold won't stop you from getting out to the range for a day of shooting. Unfortunatly what comes along after, just when it's getting warm, will put a stop to it........... MUD SEASON..!!!!!! If you don't live here in the Norteast, you just wouldn't understand.
  19. You did the right thing sending this back to Kimber!!! After a lot of debate and following all the threads on the subject I puchased a Kimber .22 conversion kit locally yesterday. Hit the range this morning with the temp @ 18deg. and the kit mounted on my Springfield Loaded lower. Ran 50 rnds each of CCI Mini Mag, Winchester high Velocity HP, Remington Golden Bullet and 15yr old Thunderbolts.!!! All ran thru with only 1 fail to feed due to the mag spring hanging up. Accuracy at 10yds was excellent after making a slight windage adjustment. I would estimate just about 1" groups. At 25yds standing clays were easily busted with only slight accuracy differences between the brands. So at this point, I found a way to use up the 1000rnds of old Thunderbolt for practice as long as I am diligant with the cleaning then will switch to the higher quality stuff when we get around to a steel match up here!!!! The initial expense is high but in the long run I think it will be worth it.....
  20. I polished my slide and lube with dry graphite. Seldom run into any problems since doing this.
  21. Washing our new sports car (midlife thing) in front of our 4yr old Grandson he asked if he could help. Proudly, I said... " Sure, put the washmit in the water with the soap then wipe the car" When I looked the 2nd time he was just going down the side of the car with the mit he had just drenched in the soap covered, gravel filled mud puddle!!!!! Some things just have a different meaning to kids.....
  22. I use ISMI Extra Power springs in mine with no problems. They are available from Speed Shooters Specialties.
  23. Not sure what your build is but you may want to test ride either sporty before commiting... I'm 6'0" with long arms and legs and can tell you that any sporter just will not work for me regardless of engine size. Even on short trips comfort is a factor and the peg, hadlebar, seat arrangement just does not work for a larger rider. If you find riding is your thing, you WILL end up trading to a larger bike. My thought when I got my forst Softail was I may as well start with what I'm going to eventually end up with and even then I later went to a Touring model. It used to be that you did not loose enough on a used Harley to not get a full size model to begin with, not so sure now but with the economy the way it is I bet you could still cut a pretty good deal. I would say if the sporster is to your liking a Dyna model would be also and is a much better choice for not a whole lot more money. As far as an 883, you'll be looking to re-jug it to a 1200 within a month!!!!! Get out and take some test rides.......
