  1. Caspian sells cast frames, and they're used by a bunch of builders. Same for Ruger. Never heard anyone say Ruger made anything that wasn't up to its intended task. Not saying they're better, just noting that they don't seem to be a problem for those that use them.
  2. I have Kimber ambi safeties on 3 1911s. Each over 10k rounds, .40 gun almost 20k. The Kimber safeties have not failed. I shoot lefty so they get used. I like the way they're secured, and they won't work loose. Affordable at about $60.00. Narrow profile, but it's never been an issue for me.
  3. Not sure why that would be. Muzzle up in cart, when you go to handle, you simply lift gun up and carry to start position. Muzzle down you have to pick up gun from cart, rotate gun to get muzzle up, or carry to line with muzzle facing down (cumbersome), rotate it to get ready, load, etc. And at the end of the stage, it's muzzle up after flag.
  4. Here's my experience with 1911 magazines. .45 ACP, anything works in my guns. Kimber Custom II, Kimber Stainless Target (pre-Series II) and Les Baer DCM Hardball gun. .40 S&W, Tripp are the only way to go. I used Checkmates, they worked for about a year, then started nosediving. Installed Tripp spring and followers and they work great. Also used Metalforms, they work great. But the Tripp mags hold 9 rounds and have removable basepads, so that puts them over the top. Gun is a Kimber I converted to .40 S&W (slide, and barrel). 9mm, I bought some Metalforms to try, they worked, so I bought some more. Never saw a need to try others. I have a buddy who has Metalform, Tripp, Dawson (they use Metalform tubes and guts) and Wilson Combat. He says the Metalforms, Dawson and Wilsons work great. Edge goes to Metalform due to price and ease of loading them. The Wilson mags are a bear to get the 10th round into. Tripp mags work, but the top round works its way forward and sometimes stops the mag from dropping free. Gun (mine and friends) are Springfield Loaded Target 9mm.
  5. Try the.Brownell's labeled mags, I've read they're Metalform mags with the Brownell's label on them. Got some slick black coating as well. Very good price.
  6. Metalform 10 round mags have worked well for me. No drop issues, no rounds popping out when the hit the ground and they're reasonably priced.
  7. Ready Tactical, from CPWSA. take up as little real estate as possible, affordable and they work. I get 6 on my belt no problem, though I am a bit of a fat-boy.
  8. Not hard to count to 8, but unloaded starts with a four target array make a locked back slide after 8 a good thing.
  9. My understanding is Limited loses the lock open feature when followers are modified in the quest for more rounds in the mag. You're only allowed 8 or 10 in SS, L10 or Production, so there's no sense in messing with followers.
  10. Makes sense. Someone should make a roll-up pouch for this purpose. Sort of like the old-timey tool wraps.
  11. Double Alpha PDR Pro II (or whatever they're calling the latest iteration of this holster). Ready Tactical pouches are nice cause they take up very little real estate and I can get six on a belt and not be reaching too far back.Affordable too.
  12. https://www.amazon.com/Blackhawk-Sportster-Deluxe-Range-Hunting/dp/B0026658U8/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1510361865&sr=1-1&keywords=blackhawk+range+bag&dpID=51vVkGVQV7L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch I like to keep it as small a footprint as possible to avoid getting too heavy. This holds everything I need with room to spare. Not as big as the Midway bag.

Just curious, why do you need ten mags at a match (I'm assuming a match, if not, nevermind), I use two 4 mag holders cause I like the way they fit in the bag better than the super long 8 mag pouch.
  14. I like Ready Tactical pouches. They take up less real estate, so you can get six on easy and not be reaching too far behind you for that last mag on the rare occasions you need a sixth reload. Very affordable too. https://cpwsa.com/products/ready-tactical-pistol-mag-pouch?variant=413576725
  15. Make sure the mag does not hit the ejector. You're raising the mag, you might have to file the lower edge of the ejector if the rear of the mag contacts it after installing the higher catch. That said, a higher mag catch made my .40 gun work flawlessly. Never needed it on my 9mm or .45 guns.
  16. Push forward on the top round while hitting the base of the mag on your thigh, palm, or table. As the rounds go down, the top one you're pushing on goes forward and out of the magazine.
  17. I've used Tripp guts in .40 S&W Checkmate 8 round mags, the ones with the welded on bases, with no issue. Still hold 8 rounds and followers stopped jumping over the slide stop tab. Made malfunctioning mags work perfectly. Tubes on Dawson mags should be same length as Tripp so the should work as well as the .40 guts worked for me.
  18. Europeans love their vacations. They all seem to take 60 day trips. I say this as one with in-laws from southern Italy, where nobody seems to work.
  19. If I could get 10 round 9mm mags for 1/3 the price of "name brand" mags, provided they didn't look abused (though if they look well-used, they probably worked for the owner), I'd take the chance. As stated, if they don't work (and they likely do, 9mm mags aren't that big an issue), you can use them for practice, dry-fire, fix or sell them to someone who may want to invest the time to make them work. Or turn them into gun stands, for that price you probably can't lose.
  20. Are you left handed? Had that issue a few years ago, evidently my thumb started riding the end of the SS pin, making it occasionally pushing it out far enough to jam the gun. I ground the pin flush and the issue went away. Just changed the pin in one gun about 3 years ago and didn't grind it flush and the issue hasn't happened so for whatever reason I seem to have "corrected" this problem.
  21. Did this one about 3 years/10k rounds ago. Got a bit of muzzle end wear, and the usual lines down the top of the slide, but considering the cost, not bad at all.
  22. Don't forget to mandate mag disconnects for all guns.
