  1. Am I reading that slide right, does it have INFINITY engraved on it? Even terrorists have nicer guns than I do. Bummer. http://weaselzippers.us/201976-isis-fighters-advance-further-into-kobani/
  2. Custom is nice, you can have the builder work the bugs out, and if he's local (as yours is) you have the ability to take it to his directly for any issues. Trojan is supposed to be nice, I see a bunch of them at matches here in California (and for what you have to do to get one here, they must be nice if there are as many as I see), and they seem to work well. Good luck whichever way you choose to go. I think you'll love the .40, I know I prefer my home made, unpainted (fixing that soon), ex-Kimber version to my .45, and the .45 is a Les Baer. Tripp Research mags are nice, and hold nine rounds. No more expensive than any others. I also have Mec Gar, Check Mate and a modified Wilson Combat. All work well, the Wilson Combat used to hold nine rounds, but the spacer and Trip Research follower changed that. But it works now (which makes shooting it more fun), and SS only allows eight after the initial Barney mag, so it's no loss. The Tripps, Check Mate and Wilson Combat were easiest to adjust after installing the EGW Higher Mag Catch, plastic base plate only requires utility knife to trim, steel tab on front of the others (they're more traditional 1911 type mags, steel base plate, welded on with tab sticking out in front) requires a Dremel or file and elbow grease to adjust. Not too big as deal, but way more work than plastic.
  3. I did it with a Kimber frame, after recontouring the barrel feed ramp (it stuck out past the front wall of the magwell and would catch the nose of bullets), installing an EGW Higher Mag Catch (and adjusting the magazine base pads so the mags would seat), and figuring what OAL to run (went with mags with rear spacers and as long a length as would fit in the mags) the gun runs great. I did have to manufacture a spacer (used a piece cut from the wall of stainless Uni-strut, exact right thickness) and replace the follower and spring of a Wilson Combat 10 mm magazine with Tripp Research .40 S&W parts. I had the W/C mag, it wouldn't reliably feed .40 S&W length rounds, and I didn't want to get rid of it. It now works perfectly, and so does the gun. Used an STI slide and Kart barrel and bushing. Super accurate, and reliable. Runs nice, I like the recoil feel better than the .45, can't explain why. It seems to come back on target quicker for me. Only practical difference from .45 is that I don't need a barney mag, the Tripp mags can hold 9 and be reloadable. Slide still needs to be painted, was waiting until I got it running perfect before doing that. Maybe next month. Now if I could find a place to checker the front strap in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price, it'd be a perfect gun. I guess the skateboard tape will have to do for now...
  4. I use the 5187 in IDPA with the standard (albeit cheezy) belt attachment, it works as well as any other and positions the gun correctly for IDPA use. What I like about them transcends (deep, eh?) the attachment method. They provide a smooth draw with no hitch, yet allow enough friction for actual retention. I also use a Blackhawk! CQC. I have no issues with it, I actually found the Safariland when I was looking for a left handed CQC holster for my XD9 Tactical and decided that I liked the Safariland better. It was also one of the few available for a left handed G35 user. I may be repeating myself here, sorry. I'm currently looking for one for my left handed G17 (the gun's not left handed, the user shoots pistols with that hand), but they're on backorder everywhere I've looked (Opticsplanet.com, Midway, and anywhere else).
  5. What SMOKSHWN said: "Posted 02 September 2010 - 03:04 AM "I wound up using epoxy to keep them in place. I got tired of screwing around with the adjustments trying to keep them tight" Shooting left handed, grabbing the mag tended to knock the holder in the loosen direction. Couldn't get them to hold. I tightened so much I actually pulled the threaded insert out on one. Had to epoxy it back in. Then continued with the epoxy on the hemispherical joint. Note, you can break the joint loose after epoxying, something about the plastic they use, it holds good as long as there's a bolt pulling it together. When the bolt is removed, the thing can be knocked off with no problems.
  6. There's a much better drop & offset option for Safariland products, 6075UBL-2. They have a 1" drop version too, change the number after the dash to 1. Much cleaner than the cheesy belt loop that Safariland provides. And I love the 5187, got on for my Springfield XD 5" and G35. They were one of the few holsters I could find for a left handed G35 or XD shooter, until the DAA PDR rig came along. That escalated production type holsters to a whole new level.
  7. Safariland 5187 or DAA PDR for Production. Suede lined, smooth draw, no resistance. The DAA has the added benefit of a thumb screw for the retention, so tighten after COF, loosen prior to LAMR. The Safariland is also one of the few holsters availble for left handed G35 shooters. CR Speed for Limited. Sometimes the Safariland 5187.
  8. I have a Safariland 5187 that works fine with a G35 & Dawson .3" front sight.
