  1. Yea you don't want to try to get a 10mm case to feed out of Caspian mags at all. Para or mbx for Para would probably be better. As to the durability of the frame I suspect ltdmstr is right as I recall early guns based on thin dust cover frames had issues with cracking at the scope mount holes . The 9x25 I used to shoot was based on an Sti (maybe original Tripp frame as it was that long ago) it worked fine it was just obnoxious to load for (new 10mm brass to form the cases from and gobs of powder) and obnoxious to be around. But it was certainly all the flat.
  2. OK just dropped an order for one. My 929 now has something to look forward to.
  3. Are you currently taking orders for the Nframe hammers?
  4. The same thing it does for pistol brass. Squeeze the base of the case back where the die has a hard time getting to (particularly useful for mil brass shot from a machinegun) and uniform dings in the rim. I use a casepro.
  5. Pretty sure the rock island mag is fundamentally the same as their standard Sti compatible mag with the exception of where the mag catch slot is cut. That's something that's straightforward to do... The cz mag would be a new form factor mag so they would need new tooling to make a mag that shape and size.
  6. They used to make large frame tanfo mag (also fit a Caspian frame) not sure if they still do. Guessing they arent hostile to the idea but I wonder what market share the cz open guns actually have (vs glock mag pccs and 2011s)
  7. Are those speed loaders an orderable item?
  8. Benny knows his business for sure... But if you want a gun from him you should probably get in line soon as I hear he is looking to retire.
  9. Thx Brian for keep this going. We all appreciate it.
  10. Dang Hop been a long time since we've seen you in these parts. Congrats on getting to senior.
  11. Some thinking about the martial thinking that started the sport is probably useful in understanding why somethings are how they are (I don't take any position on the validity of that thinking or if things should still be that way but it is what it is) The older rule books may have made more of this but it's Dvc... Speed power accuracy... That was intended to be a governing principal of the sport.... The founders felt that a more powerful handgun was more effective but that power without speed and accuracy wasn't enough (go look up Jeff Cooper for the some quotes on that.) but with some notion that upper center of mass hits (or hits in the eye box) were likely just as effective with a less powerful gun.... The uspsa target has changed over the years but the scoring zones were put where they are for a reason.
  12. Hmmm... I was thinking maybe a mini reddot on there...
  13. Yep that's one of the reasons I use one (I use an old fashioned case pro which also uniforms the rim and groove to some extent which may help some too)
  14. If you are running a 9mm in a 2011 style pistol (that doesn't have a pivioting extractor) same headstamp is my preference as the ejection is generally more uniform and predictable (this is part of the benefit of 38 supercomp in my opinion as Starline is about the only manufacturer these days and their brass is extremely consistent l) .. I prefer to rollsize (as I have done that since the days I shot 38super) and find it seems to help with predictable feeding and reduces my reject rate when gaging. There are plenty of folks who shoot mixed headstamp range brass and claim not to have issues. In the early days of major 9 I tried that and found I got a few to many malfunctions to suit me (1 every 400 rounds or so.) However in fairness we all used full sized upright cmore in those days as well which are less tolerant of erratic ejection than the current trend to smaller dots.
  15. Shred is correct as usual.
  16. Thx for posting the in-depth review. It was interesting to see how much commonality the bolt had with the mp5 bolt (particularly the locking pieces) that should give an interesting capability to tune things.
  17. The mass of the slide and comp (and barrel) as well as the downward/forward forces the comp creates need to be thought of as a system... Lowering the spring rate is the right first step to getting it to cycle... If you find that you end up going to a spring too light to let the gun feed to get it to cycle... You may well have to up the load or lighten the slide or comp (or lighten the mainspring or change the profile of the firing pin stop or...)
  18. Once fired in what I wonder? (Ar10 or maybe even the new mk48 that SOCOM is talking about?)
  19. Classroom: Basics of ballistics and and how to use a ballistics app/calculator to generate holdover data. Wind... Styles of reticles (bdc vs mil) First focal vs second focal plane scopes. Different zeros (and how to zero your scope. Range work: Target engagement at various ranges (from 0 yards to 3-400 yards) to reinforce the theoretical information. Positional work (probably around a vtac style barricade or similar) both demonstration and drills. For bonus discussions of gear (both on the rifle and off) Use of a sling...
  20. 9x21 is also popular in countries where you can't have military calibers as it fits in a gun that's designed for 9x19 with just a slightly deeper chamber.
  21. Longshot but you might ask the guys at limcat I think at one point they very briefly offered a Caspian framed gun they had modified to take sti/svi mags. Maybe with Dan Wesson (or les baer) as I think they both at one point made guns based on Caspian frames. I wish I was good at cad because this would be a candidate for a 3d print.
  22. Yep if you don't need/want the weight... save the money and go polymer grip (assuming anyone still makes them?)
