  1. If you want something that feels different, why not find a good gunsmith to fit a steel grip to your edge, and redo the trigger job as a freshen up? Then get some different weight recoil springs and main springs and do some tuning sessions at the range (maybe try a firing pin stop with a different geometry than what's in your gun currently.)
  2. Yep I had the same experience with the old magtechs in my open gun (but they were 100%in my AR so they weren't bad... Just too hard to use in a pistol.
  3. This... For me it's an exercise in focus and attention.
  4. Yep I never heard of him being gunsmith. Great photographer.
  5. You could maybe try squeezing the sides of the mag in to reduce the the distance between ribs that control the stacking of rounds in the mag, tune the feed lips, and probably install mag spacers while you are at it. But I wouldn't recommend it if you have any choice.
  6. I think the production list (like the limitation on limited guns having to have a certain number per year built to make them legal) is based dealing with situations from times in the past where manufacturers did build low volume custom shop versions of guns that were only available to their sponsored shooters and USPSA trying to stop that (sorta like FIA homologation rules) probably that mattered more in the days of no/to extremely limited modifications. Now I'm not sure how much use they are.
  7. Possible but also possible the extension and the bottom of the mag tube don't line up and you'd have to blend them... How do the mags work with the extension and only load them to 14 rounds?
  8. It's more pronounced in double stack mags but it matters in single stack mags as well to some extent. Something else you have to watch for when you put extensions on mags is the transition between the mag extension and the mag body (dimensional mismatch.) Depending on the spring and follower and how far (if at all) the rounds go into the extension the transition can cause drag/sticking.
  9. The issue with trying to use a 40 mag for 45 is that the indentations on the side of the mag bodies that control how the rounds stack in the magazine are likely to make the inside of the mag body too narrow for 45. (in addition to the feed lip dimensions which you could tune.)
  10. I think you'll see 2011 in CO or mrds on limited guns before you see this... But from a doability stand point.. In 2011 style guns you can build a 9mm major load that's not too bad due to the length you can load to and use of heavy for caliber bullets. Think or 147 or heavier bullets (I think 357 sig is legal in standard division for Ipsc and the heavy bullets are the approach most of them take I believe.) Probably I'd want a restriction like the one that used to be be on 9mm guns in open before the reduced PF. Say a minimum bullet weight of 145 gr and a minimum length of 1.18 or something. I'd like a 20 round mag limit (or something) to keep from needlessly making all the current limited guns obsolete but then that's just me. Will it be harsher in the hand? Most assuredly but with the right springing and a heavy gun with a metal grip, likely you wouldn't really notice. (I have a 9mm steel framed Caspian limited gun that happily eats my open major ammo. I wouldn't want to shoot 500 rounds a week from it but it's not worse that mild. 357 mag loads.)
  11. There is a division for that already.... Open.
  12. +1 with that setup I want all the mag spring pressure I can get. Not sure if MBX makes mags for those or not but I might give that a look too.
  13. Yep given the low mass of a setup like that, it's probably the thing least likely to give trouble.
  14. A single side frame mount on an open gun gets more load than you think. I wouldn't trust a thin Para dust cover for a single side mount. It used to be common for Paras with single side mounts on them to form cracks through the mount holes and then need to be welded up because the screws wouldnt stay... If it's a thin dust cover Para either have a pad installed or use a double side mount.
  15. The best way to handle that in the past was to weld/silver solder a pad of metal onto the dust cover to reinforce it and then drill and tap through that pad and the dust cover.
  16. Based on the way that roller locked HKs behave I doubt it. Doesn't the JP use HK locking pieces? If so then if there were a problem you could tune that way. When in doubt about matters of roller lockedness consult the forums at hkpro.com
  17. https://www.caspianarms.com/productdisplay/recon-light-rail-stainless Are you looking to have something like this installed? Depending on the shape of your dust cover that should be an easy job for any good Gunsmith
  18. Depends on what you need or want to build.. If you are going to get a new barrel fit to it you are going to want to get the frame cut for a ramped barrel in my opinion (no matter what you do with it.)
  19. Take a look at silhouette I've been told is less likely to melt the coating.
  20. I have an old p14 (Canada made frame) I started out with. I could get 18 +1 (or 19+1 with the right grams kit a Para tube and rollsized brass) in the first mag and then used and Sti for Para mag for the reloads... On most stages I see today I would be at a small disadvantage but not enough it would bother me much... Would I build a gun like that now? No. If I had one or just loved 45 it would be fine.
  21. 100 percent the last thing... Noticing that is what started me chronoing my ammo after heating and cooling it.
  22. The smaller dots have some advantages (easier to deal with the ejection, better battery life, less height over bore on an upright dot.) vs the old Cmore which also have some advantages (has a larger window in general, is maybe somewhat more reliable than some of the small dots (I've killed several of the rts2s, at least one deltapoint pro, and one sig romeo3 max so far.) I wouldn't switch if I had the old cmore, but if I were building a new gun I would go with a microdot (I have a romeo3 max on my current gun.)) I don't I know what cmore charges for a repair these days but it used to be like 100 which is probably cheaper than the cost of a new dot and mount.
  23. Take 10 rounds of ammo put them out in the sun on a warm day, take 10 rounds, put them in a ziplock bag in your cooler with an ice pack, take 10 rounds and keep them at ambiant temp. Shoot them over your chrono back to back.
  24. You can put a huge charge of really slow burning powder in the case far more than will fit in a 38 super/supercomp case as it is a 10mm auto case necked down to 9mm. It is a product of days of 175 pf open and chasing ultimate flatness. In this day and age it doesn't really serve a purpose (other than if it makes you happy to have one)
  25. When i ran mine I used both 115s and 124s over vit n110 and it worked quite well with both (but you have to be super careful about bullet profile the same as you do with 357 sig due to the short case neck.)
