Shooting matches in different US States

Recommended Posts

One of my goals has been to visit every US state.

I've been thinking - I do enjoy traveling to matches (SCSA, USPSA, etc) and shooting at different ranges.

To date I've been to matches in 16 States - If I could swing about 2 matches a year in a new State I could have shot a match in every state by the time I'm 60 (Depending on the work $ situation).

Or maybe I should just wait till I retire and be a Nomad shooter.

How many states have you been to?

Any one shot every state in the US?

just wondering...

However, next week will make 13 states, when I get to the Nationals in Las Vegas!

Well lookie there .... I forgot South Carolina!

Edit to add: I would expect Roy Stedman (Shred) would be a well traveled shooter. Many World Shoots, and Columbus Cups and whatnot.

Chris you need to come down here to texas and we can shoot ipsc matches in the daytime under the nice humidified air, and go hunting mosquitos at night

Not very many here. But Uncle Sam was kind enough to send me to rifle and pistol matches in:

Montana

Washington

Oregon

California

Nevada

Georgia

Arkansas

Mississippi

Illinois

New Jersey

Never counted, let me see . . .

Alaska

Arizona

Oregon

Washington

California

Idaho

Colorado

Illinois

Texas

Nevada

Oklahoma

Arkansas

Louisiana

Missouri

Pennsylvania

West Virginia

New Mexico

Only 17 I guess. Missing some easy ones though that will hopefully get resolved over the next few years. I am astounded I've never shot a math in Florida. Ohio, Michigan, the Carolina's - they should all be within reach. Not certain if I'll ever swing through the New England states. I ain't ruling anything out though.

Will edit if I think of others.

I to have thought of the Nomad Shooter, load up the RV and go, a match every weekend or every other weekend and a lot of touring between.

So far: (in descending order of number of matches)

New Jersey

Pennsylvania

New York

Vermont

Virginia

Illinois

Oklahoma

Maryland

Massachusetts

Plus North Carolina and Georgia (Multi-Gun, Non-USPSA)

So 11 States so far.

I was thinking about this a couple of weeks ago. Its a goal for me too.

I'm in Ohio and I was thinking about a trip out west. Originally I wanted them to be all major matches but I'm not sure about that yet. That makes it alot harder and and will take alot longer.

I was thinking along the lines of finding some matches in an area that I could hit 4 states in a week. I could be any type of match, steel, nra or whatever and if I didn't limited myself to major matches I could map matches in 4 states in one trip. Doing local matches would cut down travel time if I could find 2 clubs on each states border.

Even would be great if I could find a match during the week.

The a trip West I would just fly. Maybe find a match in upper Idaho and hit Montana, Washington and Oregon also. We have relatives in Idaho so that would make a nice trip and maybe get some Elk hunting also. The biggest thing I see if I fly is ammo which I would just ship or buy it out there.

I guess I am the real rookie. Only four states so far, and adding another in Oct., but they have all been majors.

Mississippi (MS Classic, every year since it's inception, 13 I think.)

Louisiana (Area Four x1, Gator Classic x1, Southern Regional ICORE x2)

Oklahoma USPSA Nationals x2)

Texas (Shirley Skinner Fund Raiser x1)

Tennessee (Memphis Charity Challenge in October.)
