TEXAS MULTIGUN 2012

Recommended Posts

About this not seeming right nonsense...the match is a tribute to the men and women of the US Armed forces during WW2, The hope was to get a small...very small taste of what it was like using equipment from that era. I wholeheartedly disagree that anyone would have gained a competitive advantage over shooting a single stack, pump, and Garand. If anything you'd be at a disadvantage. For those of you that chickened out because of what you thought would be inappropriate...you totally missed the boat and I am extremely disappointed. It wasn't abpout winning or 3gun nation. It was about guys like Thomas Baker Citation. Tragic that so many are so short sighted these days...

I (Like) this!

My Grandfather served in the Pacific. I can only imagine the things he and his brothers in arms went through.

Sheldon, I've shot local matches with all the gear listed, even going as far as loading the rifle out of enbloc bandoliers (which is painfully slow). A stage full of noncombative paper targets are hard enough to quickly neutralize with only 8 rounds in the gun, I can only imagine the pure hell it would be with a few dozen Japanese troops, or the waves of hundreds of Chinese our troops faced in Korea.

My concern regarding the appropriateness of WWII only had to do with the idea of shooting WWII division early, and Tac Optics later during the main match. Whether it would be any sort of advantage or disadvantage to a shooter's Tac Optic score could be debated, but it's not a debate in which I would care to partake or be involved.

Yes, if not for 3GN selecting Texas as one of the Pro Series matches I would shooting WWII and enjoying every difficult minute of it with Patrick.

I'm looking forward to seeing you next month.

Edited because I'm an ass.

I am shooting the WWII division at the match. i thought it would be a hoot. as to family: my dad was a bomber pilot in Europe, his middle brother was on a destroyer escort in the Pacific, his youngest brother was in the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific, my mother's brother was in the Army in the Pacific and my father-in-law was in the 3rd Marine Division in the Pacific.

we do honor the WWII vets, but we are also going to have a very good time shooting those guns. y'all come.

For Tactical Heavy Optics, can a couple of PMag LR20s be coupled together for Larue? "Mag capacity is 20 rounds..." Is coupled considered 2 mags or 1 for Larue?

ETA: From elsewhere, it is apparently OK.

M1 Garand shooters: you'll keep your thumb a bit more intact if you orient the top round in your clip to the right. You'll have the body of the top round under the edge of the clip instead of bare metal edge. Top or bottom, it'll still be oriented the same way. Pushing the clip with your thumb while using the flat of your hand will keep the charging handle from moving forward until you want it to.

About the WW2 handgun, what's the chance of allowing a 1917 (Colt or S&W moon clip) revolver? There's a couple of documented stories about Marines using the M1917 revolver in the Pacific theater. I don't have one, but would the modern equivalent S&W M22-4 revolver be a suitable substitute?

And if shooting the Garand with the bayonet, will the shooter be required to sheath or otherwise make safe the bayonet between stages? :D

I really need to get in touch with Sheldon or one of the the other folks coordinating the match.

I've tried via here and the support email of the match website.

Anybody got another contact option for such?

MOTEL ALERT! if anyone has reservations at the Cedar Creek Inn at Bertram be advised: they lost my reservations. i made those about 4 or 5 months ago. i called today to cancel out one room for a squad member who couldn't make the match. they had no record of my reservations. the motels in the area are pretty much full. good luck!

The gal who was in charge of it before what's-her-name that is there now had double booked everybody. The current manager had to go through all her reservations starting at the beginning and call folks, verify that they were coming and work her way down the list until she ran out of rooms....at least that is what she told me. She shoulda called you, though, I guess. Looks like she ran out of rooms before she got to your reservation. I have 3 rooms reserved at the College Station Georgetown, La Quinta, just in case our rooms at the Cedar Creek Inn evaporate on us. As it stands, I have confirmation from her that we are good, but if you haven't talked to them in a long time then you sure oughta check.

College Station is going to be one heck of a drive. Hope you don't have to do it.

No kidding. Check out the hotels in Cedar Park, most of them are new construction and only about a 20-30 minute drive from the range. A couple of the hotels have 'extended stay' suites for not much over a regular stay but with amenities like full size fridge/kitchenette. There's also grocery stores and such nearby for those 'ohcrapIforgot' moments.

Just called them to confirm my room and they had my name but said I didn't confirm with a CC. I said the guy I talked to said I didn't need to give my CC info cause I had rented from them before. She said thats why they fired him. Stayed there last year with no problems and very good service and room. They still had my room saved so I confirmed and will have one. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey guys, got a pretty cool story for you. I attend church with a veteran of the Pacific War. His father was on Patton's General Staff at the same time he was on the other side the world as a US Army captain serving in the Pacific Theatre. I was telling him of the upcoming match and the theme. He was very interested in hearing about what 3 gun is all about. He is also a big fan of the Pacific War Museum in Fredericksburg that will have an exhibit there. I was trying to figure out how to honor him somehow during the match and talked with his wife about it...

This past Sunday he walked up to me handed me a bag and said he would be honored if I would wear his Captain's bars on my hat or shirt during the match...they haven't been worn on a uniform in 65 years...

I am not worthy...but I an honored to do it.

I have a # of his medals, and was planning on doing the same.
