  1. I've got a Rogers H86 MD/FR, single strap, rough out IWB as described above. Here it is with my M64 3".
  2. Jerry Miculek knows. I bought one of his 625's a while back. I was young and stupid and bought some el cheapo ammo which then proceeded to have ignition issues. I took the revolver back to the shop and explained. Jerry's eyebrows smacked the crap out of me while Jerry explained that he sets up his revolvers for Federal primers and that I shouldn't shoot crap ammo. I wish I still had that 3" 625. Area 4 in 99, Jerry was shooting a bottom feeder. I asked why a bottomfeeder over a wheelgun. Jerry smiled and replied: "Not enough bullets!" The answer the life, the universe and everything? 3. No kidding. Check out the hotels in Cedar Park, most of them are new construction and only about a 20-30 minute drive from the range. A couple of the hotels have 'extended stay' suites for not much over a regular stay but with amenities like full size fridge/kitchenette. There's also grocery stores and such nearby for those 'ohcrapIforgot' moments.
  4. M1 Garand shooters: you'll keep your thumb a bit more intact if you orient the top round in your clip to the right. You'll have the body of the top round under the edge of the clip instead of bare metal edge. Top or bottom, it'll still be oriented the same way. Pushing the clip with your thumb while using the flat of your hand will keep the charging handle from moving forward until you want it to. About the WW2 handgun, what's the chance of allowing a 1917 (Colt or S&W moon clip) revolver? There's a couple of documented stories about Marines using the M1917 revolver in the Pacific theater. I don't have one, but would the modern equivalent S&W M22-4 revolver be a suitable substitute? And if shooting the Garand with the bayonet, will the shooter be required to sheath or otherwise make safe the bayonet between stages?
  5. I put in my registration/reservation as soon as I heard it was open. Got the confirmation/waiver signed and mailed the money order a couple of days ago. If I made it in time, this'll be my 4th TMG, 4th time shooting TacHeavy and I'm looking forward to it like the first one.
  6. I'd like to add my thanks to everyone who made this match possible. I've been a member of this board for a while, but rarely post. I shoot when I can and was given the opportunity to shoot the LaRue match. I'm, unfortunately, one of the Wounded Warriors. I didn't know we'd caused any heartache until late Saturday. It surprised the heck out of me, knowing the community and also knowing the fact that none of us so much as LAMR'd on a single stage on Saturday. The squad we shot with on Sunday was a bunch of great guys. They helped us with everything, from poor ammo selection(underpowered ammo in my Benelli), to poor weapon selection (my Benelli and our female shooter), to not enough ammo (tends to happen when a shooter's been TDY for the previous week and mistakenly leaves his ammo bag at home as he's running out the door to get on the road to the match). Like the guy already said, even if I shot everything exactly the same, sign me up for next year's match. Of course, that all depends on where the Army says I'll be by then
  7. So, how many here are shooting the TSC near Houston the first weekend in November?
  8. Quote: from BILL on 8:26 am on Oct. 7, 2002 I am hoping to have just made a point. I just finished second to Alex Zimmerman at the IDPA Nationals using a 3 inch S&W model 10 with speedloaders. I think there were only 4 other speedloader revolver shooters at the Nationals. Yes, moon clips dominate. I don't see why though. Bill Nesbitt Bravo, Bill! If you don't mind my asking, what were you shooting in your M10? I'm using a 140gn Speer JHP over 5.9 grains of 231 in my M66. It's a nice load, but I was thinking about picking up an inexpensive M10 and getting a 3" tube screwed in it... GB Texas BRT Operator
  9. When you get a reply from Dru, don't expect it to conform with the rulebook. I recently asked about modifying revolvers to use moonclips and got a response that sounded like it was saying that all moonclips guns were illegal except for the S&W or Colt's M1917 and only then if they used half moon clips....the rationale was that moonclips were a competition only modification. Never mind that adjustable sights were first built for use in Bullseye shooting...a simple machining operation to cut a revolver to use moonclips is not IDPA legal. So, I'm going with common sense with my IDPA gear now. GB

    Cover

This is one of those things that continues to amaze me. The SO should not have to call "COVER". If the SO has to make a cover call, the shooter is obligated to make a good faith effort to move behind cover. If the SO calls "COVER" and the shooter doesn't move or continues doing what they are doing, that's a penalty. Of course, if you are paying attention to what you are doing, you know when you are behind cover and so does the SO. Like anything, there are extenuating circumstances, like hearing and location. Asking about cover is getting just plain silly. I've lost count of the matches I've been to where some shooter has asked if WINDOW GLASS is cover. Personally, if you can shoot thru it, it ain't cover. GB Texas BRT Operator
  11. IDPA is training for shooting IDPA matches. If you want to train for shooting IRL, go to Gunsite/TR/Blackwater/whereever. Shooting IDPA/IPSC/ICORE trains you for shooting those disciplines. I suppose a person could apply VICR guidelines to shooting games like IDPA/IPSC and just use it for practice(since your scores wouldn't be competitive). GB who enjoys IDPA for the game it is.
  12. I think cheating and gaming are 2 entirely different things. You cheat when you break the rules, for example, changing your mags from 8 rounds to 7 to get a slidelock reload at a more opportune time. Gaming is not asking "what is prone?", gaming is thinking 2 or 3 steps into the CoF. It's looking at angles of the CoF while you are taping. It's watching the shooters ahead of you shoot and see what they do. Gaming means you are thinking about what to do and seeing what is working or not working. It's not cheating, it's adapting. GB who thinks life is a blind CoF
  13. now to the actual question, is it a wise move to use 7 round mags that way you reload on an even number, or are the extra rounds more of an advante, what does TGO use, and those of you with a lot of match experience, what are your thoughts/experience. If you want to use 7 round mags, that's all you are allowed to use. That very thing jumped up and bit a shooter at the AZ Champs this past weekend. He shot the first stage with and declared he was using 8 round mags. It was better for him since it required 9 rounds. 2 stages later, in the same bay with the same SO's, he loaded with a 7 round mag(for a total of 8) for a series of 4 targets(2 rounds each for a slide lock reload). He got called on it and was given a 3 second PE. It took a while for it to sink in to that shooter that the advantage he got for the slide lock reload was one sight picture on the last target instead of 2(since the minimum number of rounds was 10). That's why I like shooting my roundgun, there's no way you can download or change capacity on an IDPA legal wheelgun! GB
  14. I'm leaving Texas on Thursday heading west to shoot with the good folks in Arizona.
  15. Quote: from JZELEK on 12:21 pm on Feb. 23, 2002 Rant mode on. The reason given was that this gives the revolver shooters an even playing field! This is bogus. IDPA is set up where SSR doesn't compete against CDP doesn't compete against ESP doesn't compete against SSP. Arranging a match where you have bottomfeeders with 6 round mags against roundguns with 6 rounds, the bottomfeeders(with proper feeding) will or should win every time. SSR is a separate class. I'm usually one of 2 or 3 revolver shooters at our local matches. If our MD ever suggested...well, he wouldn't since he's a revo shooter as well...nah, that was someone who misread something... just my thoughts, GB Austin
  16. Quote: from Erik Warren on 4:54 pm on Mar. 11, 2002[ No? Then what's to prevent me from taking make-up shots everywhere before I want to do a slide-lock reload? What's the line between dumped shots and make-up shots, they must hit the zero ring? They must hit the target? Anything other than overtly cranking rounds into the berm? Well, the way most of the stages are laid out, if you load with an even number of rounds in your pistol, you will run dry after a target if you shoot everything 2x. Another way to keep from getting dinged for throwing rounds is to design stages the way you want them. Or to shoot a revolver. Or to slow down just enough to make your shots in the -0 or -1 zones. Lots of ways to avoid getting a "gamer" label in IDPA. One of the best is to get involved. Shooting IDPA Revolver since 1998 George Bagley Austin, TX

    base pads

Quote: from Erik Warren on 12:28 pm on Mar. 12, 2002 It says gun including mag must fit in box. So I'll put the gun in first and put the mag in beside it in the empty space. It doesn't say gun with mag inserted must fit in box. Just kidding guys. But for an organization that hates gamers, they should write their rules better. That's the rub isn't it. You are trying to game something that doesn't need to be gamed. You are trying to put an answer where a question didn't exist. I have nothing against gaming. Since gaming, in my mind at least, means that you are thinking about what you are doing. Gaming isn't asking dumb questions or being a smart a** like "It doesn't say gun with mag inserted must fit in box. ", that's just wasting oxygen. Rules shouldn't define our lives, so you shouldn't have a line and item rule book to answer every question. Kinda takes the fun out of being alive. That's what I like about IDPA. Here's the scenario, run with it. Ymmv, George Bagley Austin, TX (Edited by idpassr at 8:34 pm on Mar. 13, 2002)
  18. Bruce Nelson was one, Jerry Barnhart was another, but unfortunately my source(Ray Chapman himself) doesn't remember which years these were. He was very sure that it was Bruce and his wife for power factor and that Jerry even asked to try his ammo with a new BarSto barrel to see if it would make PF then.
