FNH SLP Mk1 Owners?

I am getting a New FNH SLP Mk1 friday and with dumb luck the pistol match the following day is having a added shotgun only stage. I have read on different shot shell selection by brand and have differing thoughts. My question is what brand/company shotshell should I buy to not totally hose myself on this first out of the box shotgun stage? I mean I have read that until broken in the winchester bulk wally stuff isn't as reliable as the federal? Thanks in advance! I know this is a YMMV issue but if I go with what the majority would say "should" work best I stand a better chance of not completely failing!

Instead of running a simple 3 dram shell why not bump up to a 3.25 dram for the match. I have never seen a gun not run on the heavier stuff.

Agree with the above post.......or get some of the AA shells...less likely to be screwy than the value packs...

+1 i run winchester 3&1/4 dram 1&1/8 heavy game loads and have never had a problem when cabelas puts tham on sale they are cheaper than wallyworld bulk and can get 7,8,4,or 6 shot

Federal bulk runs fine in mine. Winchester bulk is 98%

Thanks for the thoughts I was wondering if heavier loads wouldn't be the way to ensure cycling of the new stiffer action. It is only 20 rounds so the recoil won't kill me!

Great information. My FFL just called to say my FN was here. I am going to use it this weeked for a local 3 gun match. This helps with what to load it with. Any help with slugs would be appreciated also.

AA's are great or the Rio's run like a champ.

I've put 200+ of the Wally's Federal 1oz crap loads through my Mark I without a single issue from the very first time I shot it.

My SLP has always run Wally Federals, but I run Rio's now and they are great.

I DO NOT run Wally Winchesters!

I use Federal valu pack and also Remington gun club 3 dram 1.125 0z. I also use federal tru ball reduced recoil slugs they seem to shoot very well.

I have had no trouble at all with the bulk Federal 7.5 you get at wally world or the Remington equivalent you can get at Dicks, etc. For slugs, I'm liking the Federal rifled low recoil hollowpoints (LE127RS).

Mine too, I just ran 2.75 light loads in my first match, no hickups then or since.

I have never had an issue running light target loads through my SLP. Federal or Winchester AA's.

I had a couple problems on Saturday. One the shell didn't go all the way into battery and another time it didn't eject the spent shell. It was getting pretty grimy and the wind blowing grass in the chamber didn't help. Still love my slp mk1.

Mine wont run the Federal Bulkpacks. I think it's something with the way its crimped, but I get failures to feed pretty regularly with the stuff. Generally if I pull the bolt back a hair and release it they will feed on the second attemp. I still shoot them when I'm just messing around but they are a no-go for me at matches.

I have some Remington stuff I picked up from a buddy that runs like a champ through it though! 3" slugs run pretty sweet too

So you are running bulk pak on which piston, and the 3" mag on which piston?

The cheap Winchester ammo from Walmart or any other store has the WORST crimps possible. That's why the gun won't run with it! (Mr Weakhand brought this to my attention a couple years ago.)
