  1. Hello: Are the recesses in the slide deep enough and in the correct place? You can check it buy measuring them. Thanks, Eric
  2. Hello: The first thing should be do you reload? If you do then the JP can be made to shoot softer than with factory loads. Tune the buffer and make some reloads in the 130PF range with 124's or 147's whichever she likes more. IDPA is going to be 10 round mags if I am correct? Sig 10 round mags go on sale for around $15 and so do Glock 10rd mags. I don't own a JP but have shot quite a few and they shoot well but need upgrades to make them better. I just build my own AR9's and use some JP parts. My Sig works well but it had to go on a diet as well. Carbon fiber handguard and a 16" barrel upgrade. So here we are, if you don't reload get the Sig. If you reload and like to tune get the JP. Thanks, Eric
  3. Hello: Get a 8lb ISMI recoil spring and shoot it. I use that spring for major and minor loads down to 120PF. I also use a 17lb ISMI mainspring as well. Thanks, Eric
  4. Hello: I tested alot of comps and some are better than others and some take more powder to make them work which can make them hit your hand harder but shoot flatter. I wanted soft shooting and flat. I was having elbow problems so that started it all for me. The shock wave going up my arm was not helping my arm heal so the doctor said stop shooting. I said I need a different doctor. Like I stated above everyone likes their setup and it works for them. I like building and testing stuff, it is part of the enjoyment for me. Thanks, Eric
  5. Hello: try a different buffer spring. Thanks, Eric
  6. Hello: Wilson Arms makes a nice 16" barrel for under $150. You can find them at JSE Surplus. You can load long with these as well. Only thing I do to these is turn the front sight boss off in the lathe. You could leave it on if you like more weight. I also use the KVP 16" barrel as well as the JP barrel. I think Faxon make the KVP barrel for them. Thanks, Eric
  7. Jack, no problem I was just giving some info that may help others out. Open is a funny division since there is so many choices and of coarse everyone has the perfect setup, kinda like PCC. Thanks, Eric
  8. Jack: I built my comp to work 115's and 124's and 9mm as well as 38 super/super comp. Powders used and tested are HS-6, WAC, Silhouette, 3N37, N105, N350, Blue Dot, AA7, as well as some others. My goal was to shoot flat and also soft in your hand. After a bucket of different designs I found what worked best for me and some others that tested it as well. Is it the best for everyone, I don't think so since so many people like different setups and power factors. I know guys who still shoot 180PF loads and like it because they haven't tried anything else in decades. I also know guys who shoot very heavy guns and do well with those. I like my open pistols on the lighter side so I can get them transitioning quicker for me with the balance point under my weak hand index finger. Lastly I have tested a bunch of comps and know some are close to mine but non of them shoot as soft as mine. Thanks, Eric
  9. Hello: I may know a guy who can set you up with a very good comp. Thanks, Eric
  10. Hello: To get the top secret 36 round magazines you have to know the secret handahske as well. Old style SVI 170mm tube. ISMI 170mm spring and wait for it------- a Dawson extended Para base pad. I also use the Para base pads on my 140mm tubes to give me 27 rounds. If you need some Dawson para base pads I should have a couple of them. Thanks, Eric
  11. Hello: Glock 33rd mags are $29. Magazine extension are $20-$60 each. Glock 17 mags are under $20 each. So for under $200 you can have all the mags you will ever need for a PCC. STI mags that you have will only hold a maximum of 36 rounds with the correct base pad and no one makes a 10 round base pad and spring that I know of. Now if you are in a 10 round state then the STI lower would be a good idea so reloads could be done faster or maybe IDPA also. Thanks, Eric
  12. Hello: Do you reload? If so the AR9 is a good platform, if not then the Sig MPX is better. The Ruger is a great starter PCC and a very good price. They are on the heavy side but the ones I have seen and tried go bang every time. They were all Glock magazine ones using factory ammo. I like the red Holosun 510C for a dot. Thanks, Eric
  13. Hello: Yes you will have to run a spacer with the carbine buffer in a rifle length buffer tube. I have run a Blitzkrieg 9mm buffer, JP 308 rifle spring and it works great in a carbine buffer. You have to limit the amount the bolt comes back. A 1/4" past the bolt release is a good place to start. After that you can play with short stroking if you want. Go to a Hardware store and get some white plastic spacers and stack them to see what amount of spacer you will need. This is all done by just dry testing no live shooting until you get the distance close. Sounds like your MBX setup was right on the edge of short stroking so it was not always fully resetting the trigger. Possibly bump firing also? Check the bolt travel to see if it has the 1/4" past the bolt release. Thanks, Eric
  14. Hello: Cut up a drier sheet in strips and put it in the hopper. Ground your machine with a small jumper wire. That powder is reverse temp sensitive so it will be faster when it gets cold. About 0.2 grains less in winter if winter is about 30-40 degrees and summer is around 80. Thanks, Eric
  15. Hello: I would try one and then try the other one to see which one works the best for you. The new Aftec are not the same as the old ones and I am having problems with the new ones which I never had with the old ones. I have had to bend the extractor to make them work and they still need to be polished and contoured to make them work. I have gone to the EGW extractors now on my open pistols. I have also seen the spring retainer break on a couple of pistols which never used to happen. Good luck on your new open pistol adventure and have fun. Thanks, Eric
  16. Hello: I would suggest you try the zero comp/ thread saver and see what you think. Do some tests at 7 yards with two shots and some transition drills as well. Working up a load and getting the bolt/buffer setup will do more than any comp will in a PCC. The comp may add just enough weight to counterbalance everything but it will add weight hurting your transitions. Lastly if you think the comp looks badass then it must be working. Thanks, Eric
  17. Hello: I am using this super lightweight comp right now that shoots pretty flat and transitions very quick. Thanks, Eric
  18. Hello: Be very careful with Clays in 9mm and 40. It is a very fast powder for those calibers. I would use your Tite Group or WST around 3.5 grains to start with 115's. Chrono to see what you get out of your barrel setup. Thanks, Eric
  19. Hello: leave the weight out and take out some of your spacers so it gets a longer stroke. You maybe getting bolt bounce. You can also use a 308 spring as well. I run my setups in the 18-21oz range with no problems. Thanks, Eric
  20. Hello: It seems that your barrel doesn't like those 124's or the load you have with them. I would try a different bullet in that weight range and see what it does. Maybe the barrel twist is not enough to stabilize that bullet. Something to try and play with when you are at the range. Thanks, Eric
  21. Hello: Sometimes you just have to find what your gun likes. Thanks, Eric
  22. Hello: Maybe try them in a different barrel. My MPX and my KAW Valley will both group about 8" offhand at 75 yards. I don't use a bench since I never shoot that way. Thanks, Eric
  23. Hello: Another shooter here having problems with the Blue Bullets as well. Not sure if they had a bad batch that was not resized correctly? Maybe you guys have the same lot that they made. I would give them a call and see what they say. Thanks, Eric
  24. Hello: You can also shorten the handguard as well as drill more holes in it. Thanks, Eric
  25. Hello: I measured the Blue Bullets and they are not round and are different sizes. It must be the coating thickness since the bullets should be very concistant. I used a vernier caliper and also a micrometer. And I may know how to use them after a day or two. ? Thanks, Eric
