  1. Hello: Shooting open is faster than shooting CO. I am building a CO pistol right now but have shot open for years. The biggest change will be a red dot with a bigger lens and a gun that shoots flatter. Also with open you can shoot major or minor but major feels better to me using 115's. One thing on classifiers that you should know is that you will be a middle "C" or lower to start since the bar is so high in open. Other than that just do it and welcome to the dark side. Thanks, Eric
  2. Hello: I know guys that use Berry's bullets. I have tried plated and coated as well. Both will leave a little lead, coating and plating in the comp. Some comps get more buildup that others so you have to check that. Saying that and the time it takes to clean out the comp, I just run JHP or complete metal jacket bullets now. They don't cost that much more if you buy them in bulk. If you shoot a match that is 200 rounds, in most cases you are only spending less than $5 on quality bullets for the match. So don't stop at Starbucks for that coffee and buy better bullets. Thanks, Eric
  3. Hello: Best advice I have read here so far. Thanks, Eric
  4. Hello: You guys that are using Major Pistol should also try Ultimate Pistol as well. It is very close to Winchester Auto Comp in powder drops and is clean burning. For Montana Gold 121 grain bullet at 1.170" OAL I am only using 6.9 grains to give me 171-173PF. Dot tracking is very good also. Thanks, Eric
  5. Hello: On an open pistol I like an angled firing pin stop. I actually cut the firing pin stop so it contacts the hammer higher up giving more leverage so the slide can cycle easier. I have tried the squared off firing pin stop and for me it just seems to give me more muzzle rise under recoil. Thanks, Eric
  6. Hello: I don't want this to sound to coarse but you are new to open and my advice is to just shoot it. Don't worry about all the little details you are asking about since it will drive you crazy. Find a good load from a fellow shooter and shoot that for 30,000 rounds. Then decide what you would like to change. Bob builds some very good pistols that have taken shooters all the way to Grand Master. He knows what works so trust the pistol you have till you get lots and lots of rounds down range. I have seen lots of shooters come and go because they over think things to the point of spending a s#!t ton of money on stuff they don't need. I am not saying this to discourage you but to help you save some money and enjoy the sport more. Thanks, Eric
  7. Hello: I have used the Hahn block that inserts from the bottom with Colt style magazines. It worked 100% with Metalform magazines. If you have a SBR lower and want a SBR 9mm I would do the magazine insert. If you want a dedicated AR9 I would get a QC10 lower and build on that with a 16" barrel. I have both a Glock and Colt QC10 lowers and they have been great. Currently working on a 40 S&W upper for the Glock lower. The Glock lower gives more options for what ammo you want to shoot with different magazines. QC10 also make a large magazine lower for Glock magazines. Lots of cool stuff out there for PCC even a Sig MPX, Guard and Mech Tech. Thanks, Eric
  8. Hello: I have a Holosun 507C coming to be installed on a carry optics pistol. I may even try it on a Open pistol if the glass is big enough. So far I am liking the 510C on my open pistol. Thanks, Eric
  9. Hello: Or you could drill and tap a stock magazine release 4-40 and use a magazine button. Dawson make a nice one. Thanks, Eric
  10. Hello: An easy way to test powder sensitivity is to cool it down. What I do is put 20 rounds in a plastic baggy and then put it in the freezer. I then take them to the range packed in ice still in the baggy in a ice chest/cooler. Chrono them cold then test your other ones that have not been cooled down to see the difference. Some powders speed up when cold and some slow down. Thanks, Eric
  11. Hello: The Magpul 21 round mags only hold 21 rounds. I will take one apart tomorrow to see what is stopping them from holding more. It could be the spring or the base plate. Yes they do fit the gauge since I have an EGW gauge to test my mags with. It is the base plate insert. FOUND IT--It has a guide for the spring on the bottom to hold the spring in place. If you cut that off it may give you one more. I am not really worried about it since there is always places to reload now or you could just reload to one of those. Start with 23 +1 and reload to a shorter magazine or whatever you load faster to. Thanks, Eric
  12. Hello: Well tested some magazine extensions tonight. The Magpul 17 round with the Zev extension does not fit the gauge so it will be for PCC. The Arredondo holds 23, Magpul 21, TTI 22 and the Zev on factory Glock 17 holds 22. I didn't have a Dawson on hand but think it holds 22 as well. Thanks, Eric
  13. Hello: I have Arredondo, Dawson, TTI, and Zev base pads to try. I also have Magpul 21 round and Magpul 17 round with Zev base pads. This is turning into an interesting project. Don't care about the "Gucci" aspect of it as long as it runs. Thanks, Eric
  14. Hello: Picked up some more parts today and hopefully the slide and red dot will be here Friday. I have to check on the rules to see what I can and can't do to the frame and weight wise. I still want to check out a Glock Gen 5 to see if the grip and magwell area is that much better. Most stages will require one reload so I have to see which magazine setup hold the most rounds. Thanks, Eric
  15. Hello: My KAW Valley barrels have been really good and at around 19ozs they are pretty light. Accuracy at 25 yards is a quarter size off hand with reloads. Thanks, Eric
  16. Hello: The green seem to cost a little more than the red ones for some reason? I have used both and prefer the red over the green. You may want to look through both if you can. Thanks, Eric
  17. Hello: I did not know that having never seen one of the Glock factory 22 round mags. That is very good info to have. Thanks, Eric
  18. Hello: Why not get the Glock factory 22 round magazines? I have used Arredondo, Dawson, TTI and Zev. All work very well. I have not tried them for 40S&W yet but have used them for 9mm. Thanks, Eric
  19. Hello: I went with a Brownells G17 RMR slide that are on sale right now with another 10% off and free shipping. I just ordered the Holosun 507C to try since I really like the 510C on my open pistol and PCC's. I have most of the spares for the slide except a couple of small parts. I also have a really good trigger I did years ago that is under 3 pounds. I have lots of magazines and all the other stuff I will need for Carry Optics. So now to get the boys out to shoot it and maybe I will get a chance also. Thanks, Eric
  20. Hello: Well if you use the Glock 33 round magazine and add a plus 6 base pad that gives you 36 rounds which will do do any USPSA pistol stage. If you have to reload after 36 rounds you are going to loose. Add a plus 10 or a Taccom coupler you are good for any stage I have seen. The reason the magazine companies don't want to invest on making new molds for PCC is that the demand will not be that much. How many people will buy 10 42 round magazines? Magpul would be better off making an extension for their magazines that could be used with their 21 round 9mm magazines. Maybe a plus 20 base pad. Thanks, Eric
  21. Hello: 2,8 grain of Tite Group with 147's is going to be a sub minor load in a Glock 34. That is a load for a 16" PCC barrel. Try some with 3.4 grains of Tite Group at 1.135" OAL. That should be in the 131-136PF range. Thanks, Eric
  22. Hello: I did a dovetail mount years ago with a Doctor sight and did not like it. I shoot open with a 2011 and like the sight lower to the bore. Still looking at options including a new Glock gen 5. Thanks, Eric
  23. Hello: Ok. Then if you have either the 9mm or the 38 you can fit the other barrel to the same pistol. So one pistol and 2 barrels and the best part is you can use the same 38 magazines if you load 9mm longer. Thanks, Eric
  24. Hello: Since you thinking 1911 minor why not think 40 minor also to throw into the mix. Tripp have 10 round 40 mags and you have a pretty large selection of bullet weights from 135-220 grain. Just saying there are more choices than 9mm, 38 super/super comp. Thanks, Eric
  25. Hello: Well the time has come that my sons want to try some USPSA matches. I have a Glock G17 gen 2 I would like to convert to a carry optic pistol. I would like to get a slide and other parts to use a RMR type mount for the dot. What would you guys suggest? I appreciate any info to get this project started. I am not sure if I will create a monster who wants to shoot matches all the time with me. It would be great! Thanks, Eric
