    Prime Rib

Pic looks great! A few tips to add to your Rib perfection Pull the Rib from the fridge about two hours before you put it in the oven and let it temper a bit. Think about a huge piece of 38 degree meat going in the oven, it can't cook evenly becasue the inside holds that chill for a long time while the heat pounds the outside. If it tempers out a bit you get that nice solid red with the deep brown char on the outside. If you go ice cold into the oven you get Char, grey, red center. If you tie up your roast make sure you use real thin nylon butcher twine not that loose cotton string. The cotton absorbs blood, proteins, etc then bonds with the meat when it cooks. In the end it rips off that awesome crust you worked so hard to develop. Rub a bit of oil on the twine as well. It will easier to pull off. Gio
  4. I am sure someone posted this but I can't find it. VERY FUNNY

    HERTZ Rent-a-Vette

Mustangs are super tough as well. Grew up in the "5.0" vs IROC days...sad to say the Stangs were faster but T-top Camaros cruising the Jersey shore were much cooler. 400$ a day...eeesh. I paid 40 a day extra for 3 days (120 all in). I think a lot of dealing can be done at the pick up desk depending on how many are sitting in the lot. I am a charming SOB so maybe that helped as well...:-)

    HERTZ Rent-a-Vette

SigLady, it was brand new 09 w/12 miles. It was the base engine/auto but it still kicked butt. It had a ZHZ tag which I think was a special run for HERTZ I wish I had pics but this was so unplanned I didn't even think about it. Vettes are awesome! I first wanted a 67 then I moved on to a triple black 70 454 now....I am thinking new off the line. Just found this...If anyone is interested https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/misc/index.j...corvettezhz.jsp It had 436hp...eeesh...I NEED ONE
  10. I had to go to LA on business and when I got off the Hertz shuttle there was a bright yellow and black rag top Vette parked in the Gold club line. I joked with the lady at the counter about upgrading my Mid-Size to the Vette and she said "you should, I'll see what I can do". After a few minutes she told me "you can have it for 40 bucks a day extra" as I was thinking about it she said "just do it". That was all the push I needed. I hit the push button start and my rent-a-dream fired up. She only had 12 miles and she sounded sweet. I dropped the top and hit the road. I always wanted a Vette but one thing or another always stopped me. Closing in on 40 this was a nice mini mid-life crisis break. Well, i can't say i followed a proper break-in procedure but i did have fun. Punching it under every underpass just to hear it scream. Breaking loose at stop lights, hitting PCH at 5:30 am. I got my money's worth for sure... If you have a chance I highly recommend it. THANK YOU HERTZ...You may have saved my marriage
  11. I saw SRV play a small joint in south NJ back in 83...awesome Check out Gary Moore
  12. Not directed at you Benny. I am not sure what Burris is calling it but they clearly made mistakes with the first run of the xtr and it looks like they are trying to fix it. I have no problem with a company improving their product as long as it is an improvement of a sound base model. The illumination is worthless on the first xtrs and this change should be looked at as fixing a defect.
  13. I like how Burris comes out with a "New and Improved" item that is nothing more then what the original should have been. Fixing a bad design should not be hailed as a great deed. Now everyone with the "old ones" will be stuck with something they can't sell and does not meet their expectations. When Ford fixed the exploding Gas tank option on the Pinto they did not call it "New and Improved"
  14. It's getting better, sit tight. Just as things ran out they are starting to return. Mags are available, AR stuff is getting back on the shelf, next will be the reloading stuff. Don't panic.
  15. Very Sad. She will surely be remembered by men my age ...39 ish. That poster hung proudly on the back of many a closet door.
  16. I like when one of our members posts a health or family concern in the "announcment section" and they are greeted with words of support and encouragment. I know we are all big tough shooters but it is nice to see the other side
  17. Wishing you a quick recovery.
  18. I think the diminishing focus on the trades has added to this. No more Metal shop, wood shop, etc. Even if things could be fixed nobody knows how to do it. Look at the Autobody business. Strip off the broken stuff and bolt on the new stuff. No more pounding panels or fixing bumpers. Guns seem to be hanging in there....
  19. I have a miad on my ar10 and i used the flat backstrap to avoid the "beavertail" space
  20. Don't contribute a penny to that country. Not one toll, not one hotel room, not one meal. Just my .02
  21. First, I'll pray for your health challenge. Not to drift into ethical debate but since November there has been an ongoing battle over ethical sales of high demand items. I admit, at first, I flamed anyone trying to make a big profit based on the state of affairs. Then the big dealers joined in and it became the norm. $50 pmags, 1500 crappy ARs, $300 sleeves of primers, etc, etc. I blamed the new govt, I blamed greedy individuals, I blamed the media. You know what? It is just simple economics and there is nothing anyone can do about it. What is something worth? The answer is: Whatever someone is willing to pay for it. What is the right thing to do? That is between you and that voice in your head. Karma is BS, there are plenty of scumbags doing just fine. Sorry for the rant I just had M&Ms and Pepsi.
  22. VERY NICE! I am a neat freak and I hate having all my crap banging around in the back of my truck. This may cure my OCD....i'm in.
  23. High Lord, Better change that primer value...those days are over
