  1. I agree. I now have a JP GMR 15 I really like and use but I kept the standard Ruger PC Carbine I bought originally to try PCC since I agree it's more likely to survive the cosmetic wars on AR-style guns.
  2. This is the essential point. As noted guns are a long term purchase but sights change on an almost weekly basis as new and improved models are developed. Don't be wedded to one sight. Another consideration. If you do sell the gun, a slide with a versatile mounting system is far easier to sell than one limited to a single, possibly obsolete, sight model.
  3. I agree that the mounting holes or the mounting bolts may be damaged. I have the Allchin Vortex Venom, etc. mount on my MkIV and it has never come loose or given me any trouble. If it's the receiver holes, Ruger can make it right. If it's the bolts, that's a cheap fix.
  4. I was a bit baffled too but I did a Google search for this gun. It's an 8-shot .22lr revolver but single action only. Perhaps that's the OP's misnomer.
  5. Well, there weren't a lot of replies so I guess cutting the rear sight base to remove it wasn't considered a good idea. I did send the slide to Ruger who, at no cost, removed the sight base and returned the slide, sans base, along with the base itself and it was back within a week. I already had the Galloway optics mounting plate and it took a bit of fitting by filing the plate's dovetail. Since it's aluminum, I didn't have to do much to make it a reasonable drive fit into the factory dovetail. I added my Vortex Venom to the Galloway plate and it absolutely transformed the gun for me. I realize the Ruger SR-series isn't the hot setup for competition shooting but mine is an HD pistol and now is much easier to shoot well.
  6. Somewhat off-topic but related, in 2005 I bought a SIG SP2009-9-BMS. The 9 mm SP2009 was one of SIG's first polymer frame pistol (the SP2340 in 357 Sig and .40 S&W preceded it by a couple of years). It was a double stack, hammer fired, DA/SA gun with SIG's standard grip mounted decocker. Apparently it was made to offer a lower cost alternative to SIG's pricy aluminum frame guns like the P226. What made the "BMS" unusual was that it had ambidextrous slide mounted manual safety levers as well as the standard decocker. You could carry it cocked and locked but the safety levers were in an awkward location and worked "backward" from common 1911 operation, i.e. up to fire. The story was these were made to fill a South American order that required a manual safety but the order was canceled before they could be delivered and SIG sold them on the retail US market. Just another gun with an unexpected manual safety but not as rare as the S&W discussed in this thread.
  7. I haven't cut the springs so far. Also, I don't think there are 1.0 and 2.0 magazines, I believe they are all identical but maybe there are older and newer production. Anyway, I called S&W's customer service and told the rep my problem. He's sending me a new spring and follower so we'll see if that helps. Also it lets me really experiment with my old ones.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I've filed off the follower's legs until the semi-circular arcs are nearly gone but the mag is still very tight for 10 rounds,. I may try to shorten the center knob also. I was wondering about shortening the spring since is seems to be just about coil bound with 10 rounds. That may be next.
  9. I recently bought a factory 10-round full size M&P9 magazine for my M&P9 2.0 but loading the 10th round is a huge struggle. Anything I can do to modify it to make adding the 10th round easier? I realize the manufactures want to be sure you cant load more than 10 but 10 should be easier. Suggestions?
  10. My experience exactly. My 650 would to leave an occasional primer partially in the case. I called Dillon and the Tech I talked to was helpful. He suggested smoothing the end of the decapping pin with fine sandpaper to remove any burrs and round the sharp edge. Problem has never reoccured.
  11. I'm trying to remove the rear sight from my SR9c to install the Galloway red dot adapter base. I removed the set screw and rear blade elevator and roll pin, then clamped the stripped slide in a padded vise and tried to drive the base out (yes, left-to-right) with a brass punch and a small hammer...then a bigger hammer...then a MUCH bigger hammer. I wasn't being at all subtle but no dice, it wouldn't budge at all. I've removed dovetail rear sight before on many other pistols including two other SR9s, two M&P 9s, a couple of Glocks and a CZ75. None of them gave any problems so this one is a first. I contacted Ruger's CS and the woman talked suggested I send them the slide which I'm preparing to do. However, has anyone here ever removed one of these bases "destructively", i.e. by cross cutting it with a Dremel or hacksaw? I realize I'd have to be very careful not to cut into the slide but maybe this would work. Comments?
  12. +! Many shooters neglect to clean and degrease both the receiver holes and screws before using Loctite. This is essential to get a good bond. Acetone is certainly as good choice as a cleaner.
  13. What's the incentive for replacing the factory guide rod? What does an aftermarket rod do better?
  14. Will the TF mag well work with 10-round Glock 26 magazines or does it interfere with them because they are so short?
  15. It's an AR-15 bolt carrier made of titanium. I had to look it up too. Apparently it's also been discontinued by the manufacturer who is also out of business so either its price or durability were show stoppers.
  16. A piece of 1/2" steel round stock ground to a pencil like point can be driven into anything short of solid rock.
  17. If I were in the market for a new Dillon, I think I'd wait before buying a 750. Any new product is going to have teething problems and I wouldn't want to be a Beta tester for the 750. The XL650 is a known quantity with its strengths and minor weaknesses well established so you know what you are getting. The 750 has yet to prove itself.
  18. Yeah, that was given on the posting above with the XL750 ad. However, the "base model" still includes a caliber conversion, powder measure, tool head, etc which are parts I already have. I would want just the big piece in the middle at, hopefully, a lower price
  19. Entirely Crimson sells $25 a quick-disconnect for Dillon Powder measures that allow removing the measure by just removing the fail-safe rod and pulling a spring loaded handle. Once the measure is off the press dumping it is trivially easy.
  20. I wonder if Dillon will sell just the basic XL750 "core", i.e. the loader body with no accessories so those of us with XL650's can reuse our current accessories (tool heads, powder measures, strong mounts, powder checks, case feeders, etc.)?
  21. Elite Tactical Systems (ETS) web site shows coming 22-round and 30-round M&P magazines that will be available in the near future (whatever "near" actually means). You could call them for a delivery update. I've had excellent service from their Glock magazines so I hope the M&P mags will be as reliable.
  22. Google Translate does a very good job withe German to English. Give it a try.
  23. Do you have any friends or relatives who are US resident who could buy them here and mail them to you?
  24. I ran into a similar "rules Nazi" at a local steel challenge match a couple of years ago.. The guy acting as RO (we RO for each other at these matches) said "Load and make ready" and was immediately corrected by another shooter who proceeded to give us all a business card with the "proper commands" spelled out in exact detail. Seriously, I was told that the commands were simplified and standardized because IPSC and other speed games are shot internationally and not all competitors have a full grasp of English. The current commands use as few words as possible to avoid mis-understanding.
