  1. I did the same thing. Both bmiller (a poster here) and Taccom sell Picatinny rail adapters that replace the rear sight and make a great mounting point for a mini red dot. I have a Vortex Venom on mine.
  2. Vortex's web site has a "how to" video on mounting their Venom and Viper red dots and it says the bolts should be torqued to 10 to 12 inch-pounds. That's INCH-pounds. Here is the video: http://www.vortexoptics.com/video/mounting_red_dot_to_handgun
  3. Yeah, I know that. I was just looking for guidance as to what diameter means the belling has been just removed by the taper crimp die. So the recommended diameter is .470 to .471". Great, that's what i'll adjust to. Thanks for the help.
  4. I'm going to help a friend set up his new Dillon XL 650 for .45ACP. I have one myself but only use it for 9 mm and .38 Special so I'd appreciate some advice for setting up his crimp die. What OD of the loaded rounds' case mouth am I looking for?
  5. I have both and to me they are tweedledom and tweedledee. They both work well and fit the specified guns properly. I'm left handed and not all of either company's models are offered in lefty form. One specialty holster I have from Comp-Tac is their "USPSA" holster for my 6" 686. It's cut away in front far enough to clear a Picatinny rail long enough for a long red dot like the C-More but holds the gun securely. Blade-Tech does not offer anything comparable I could find and I really didn't like Safariland's similar holster.
  6. Not exactly what you specified since it 's a RFPO gun but it's a Ruger MkIV Stainless Target with a VQ Accurizing kit and the VQ extractor. The "O" is a Vortex Venom 6 moa dot mounted on a Ruger Picatinny rail.
  7. Notice the true FMJ is open at the base so the hot powder gasses contact the lead core. That's one reason why most major load shooters prefer JHP bullets since the jacket covers the base. Montana Gold does sell a fully enclosed jacketed round nose by adding a disk of jacket material that covers the base
  8. You can order directly from Blade Tech. Delivery is a couple of days if your model is stock. Probably a couple of weeks if they have to make it. Another good maker is Comp-Tac and you can also order directly from them.
  9. Extrapolating your data a bit: M&P 2.0 5", Blue 125 gr RN coated, Magnetospeed at 0', 4.0 gr Sport Pistol 1066 fps PF= 133 16" Ruger PC Carbine, same load and chrono, 1191 fps PF= 149
  10. As it turns out, a lot of what are advertised as "FMJ" bullets are really plated. CCI Blaze Brass and Independence Aluminum Case ammo (also made by CCI), both stated as FMJ on their boxes, are plated, not really jacketed. This was confirmed by a CCI tech service rep when I called to ask why both ammo boxes state; "Do not use in firearms with ported barrels ported recoil compensators." The CCI tech told me the plating is thin and may be cut through by the rifling leading to fragments of the plating being spit sideways from the ports or compensator vents. Great. So now I have about 2000 9 mm 115 gr factory rounds I can't use in my PCC.
  11. I have a TandemKross "Game Changer" compensator on my 10/22. I have a 16" threaded "sporter barrel" so the comp is a bit bigger in diameter than the muzzle and I had to use a crush washer instead of the supplied O-ring to clock it properly. It works fine for the purpose of making the rifle louder and wasn't terribly expensive.
  12. Sure, it came from a gun shop and it, indeed, could have been in a distributor's warehouse for quite some time. All I know for certain is a) my 686 was purchased in early 1993 and b) the extractor star is pinned. I can't find a reference to a list of S&W serial numbers vs date of manufacture but that would help pin (pun unavoidable) it down.
  13. I'm also a lefty and have a JP GMR15. It comes with an ambi safety and I find the bolt catch/bolt release are far more accessible to my left trigger finger than they would be to a right-hander's thumb. The mag catch isn't reversible but I use my support (right) hand to change magazines and that works well too. At much less cost, the Ruger PC Carbine is also very lefty friendly and i have one of these too. The charging handle and mag catch are reversible and Tactical Innovations sells a left-handed safety button that is inexpensive and very easy to install. Of course it can take Glock magazines of any capacity.
  14. Not in this case. I bought the gun new and have not had it modified.
  15. Then why would mine be pinned if the change was made prior to 1993?
  16. I have a 686-3 purchased new in early 1993 that has a pinned extractor star and a round extractor rod so the change was made some time after that.
  17. Very preliminary testing but I just tried two 9 mm loads back to back using 125 gr Blue coated bullets, one with 4.0 gr of TiteGroup and the other with 4.0 gr of Sport Pistol both at an OAL of 1.135". My chrono showed the velocities out of my 16" PCC within 35 fps of each other with the SP loads being slower. However, the SP loads had a softer recoil and the difference was more than the velocity difference should explain.
  18. +100. Been there, done that. I does indeed get heated!
  19. Tis is a VERY important point, particularly if you torque the ejector rod fairly tight. I use a pair of standard pliers with padded jaws to tighten the rod after my annual thorough disassembly and cleaning of my 686 and it doesn't loosen after that.
  20. It's not the amount of plastic in it, it's the work to design it, make the molds, package it, etc. What does the steel and wood or plastic in your firearms actually cost? Maybe $3 total. I'll probably buy one too but I want them on the market long enough to be sure they work before going for it. I don't want to be a beta tester. However, their centerfire loaders are wonderful so I hope this is as good.
  21. That's about what the centerfire UPLULA lists for. If it works, it's worth it.
  22. The makers of the UPLULA centerfire magazine loaders just announced a two part loader and unloader for all the Ruger 10/22 factory magazines including the BX10, 15 and 25. Midway shows them for $36 but as "backordered" but the UPLULA site says they are shipping. If they work as well as their other loaders, we are going to be in clover. Here is midway's listing: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/712280/maglula-lula-magazine-loader-and-unloader-ruger-10-22-22-long-rifle-polymer-black
  23. I've done it both ways. Shooting my PCC with Glock 33 -round magazines, I'll shoot the entire set of 5 strings with that one magazine and have a loaded 10-round magazine as backup if I really screw up the stage. Shooting my M&P 9 mm in CO I'll load the 17-round magazines to capacity and shoot two strings per magazine and reload twice during the stage. Shooting my 10/22 in rfro I have three TandemKross double magazines I load with 10-rounds each and reload after each string. So far i haven't missed a reload when needed despite this mix of techniques.
  24. EGW sells a low profile mounts for most red dots (DPP, Venom, FFIII, etc) that replaces the rear sight on S&W K.L and N-frames. I have a Venom on my 686 using the EGW mounting plate and it works very well.
  25. No, not at all. The MkIV receiver/barrel/bolt assembly comes completely off the grip assembly with just the push of the takedown button. You have complete access for cleaning, etc. with no other fiddling around and reassembly is trivially easy.
