  1. I've stopped several shooters for the same things. Sketchy!
  2. Do you have a pistol that will work? If so, the first step you should take is to use it for a few matches, and upgrade from there.
  3. I use 55 or 62 grain FMJBT for everything.

    RIA Open Gun

Has anyone built an Open gun on a RIA widebody frame? It would seem as though one could buy a 9mm pistol, drill the frame for a scope mount, install a comp/barrel, and have a decent open gun for very little money.
  5. I always thought about buying one for Production or Carry Optics since I already have two 16-40's and plenty of mags. If I had one, I'd run it in production.
  6. Along the same lines: A few weeks ago, I was shooting a club match. There was a basic standards course, consisting of two rounds each on four targets, a mandatory reload, and two rounds on each target again. On the very last target, my pistol malfunctions. Rather than add five-ish seconds to a five second stage, I quit, intentionally taking a mike. Perhaps the shooters that did not "aim" at the more difficult target decided that it was not worth their time to pursue an alpha hit. As long as the pistol was pointed in the general direction of the target, an FTE would be a very hard sell.
  7. I load 4.0 with a 180 lead @ 1.140 in my Paras.
  8. Welcome! Take your current gear to a local match and have fun! You'll either love it or hate it--only one way to find out!
  9. Should do just fine. IDK about that brake, but the rest of the rifle looks good.

    40 Open

Lots of good information in this thread for the 25 of us that are dumb enough to run .40 in Open.
  11. Very interesting! I'll be checking back frequently!
  12. The way the magazine restrictions are now, a certain caliber is pretty much mandated in limited and open; .40 and 38 super/9major, respectively. In Open, there is absolutely no advantage to shooting Minor. That being said, do RO's have a mag gauge at the beginning of every stage to make sure that every mag used by a competitor falls within the length dictated by his/her division? Do RO's count the number of rounds in magazines before the shooter starts a stage? If someone is going to cheat, they're gonna cheat.
  13. My limited and open guns have ambi safeties, but my SS gun doesn't. The only reason for this is that the limited and open guns came with ambi safeties, and I've never felt that I needed one on my SS gun.
  14. I should have explained further: make a differential magazine capacity limit for Major/Minor, such as is the case in Single Stack and Revolver. Perhaps limit Major to 18 rounds in Limited and 25 in Open, whereas Minor would be capped at 25 in Limited and 30 in Open.
  15. I like the idea of a fixed capacity limit, regardless of division. That way, there is no disadvantage to shooting a .40 in Open, or a .45 in Limited.
  16. If you use the slide release, it shouldn't be much, if any, slower. I find that slingshotting the slide is slower than the slide release.
  17. I don't mind some odd stuff, but the massive amounts of unnecessary no-shoots was a bad choice. I'd do one (or both) of two things: 1: Help set stages PER THE RULES. 2: Offer constructive criticism on stage design.
  18. Not legal for USPSA. I don't mind them TOO much in 3 gun for pistols, as I shoot Major PF.
  19. Has anyone used one of the 1-6 Millett scopes? I bought one for $169 at Midway and finally got around to mounting it. I haven't shot it yet, but so far I like it.
  20. Mine weighs about 12lb. It's what I'm used to, so it doesn't matter much.
