A few weeks ago, I was shooting a club match. There was a basic standards course, consisting of two rounds each on four targets, a mandatory reload, and two rounds on each target again. On the very last target, my pistol malfunctions. Rather than add five-ish seconds to a five second stage, I quit, intentionally taking a mike.
Perhaps the shooters that did not "aim" at the more difficult target decided that it was not worth their time to pursue an alpha hit. As long as the pistol was pointed in the general direction of the target, an FTE would be a very hard sell.
