  1. I agree - those would be good choices as well.
  2. I'd buy a Dawson Competition Ready STI Trojan and have at it.
  3. Sure - glad to help. My 9mm 1911 Single Stack is my favorite gun to shoot.
  4. I'm sorry - I should have posted that. 147 gr.
  5. I've been using coated bullets (Ibejiheads) with 3.0 gr of Titegroup in my 9mm Trojan and it makes 130PF with no problem.
  6. We just started using them. Ours are the last generation ones (Amazon just released a new version). With ours it is VERY close on battery life. We ended up getting battery packs and Practishades for them and have them all bundled together as a unit for each stage. The responsiveness of the Fires is MUCH better than the nooks.
  7. I've shot with Gary and don't know him to be a whiner or complainer. I don't know him to miss much either. Step 2 is where it's at. As an RO I like to let the shooter see any Mikes he or she may have on the stage but in the interests of time we do oftentimes tape up the hits before the shooter has had a chance to see them at our local matches.
  8. I have been using STI tubes with Dawson basepads and Dawson followers for 40 cal in limited division. I'm tempted by the MBX mags but it's hard to justify the price when my current mags work well.
  9. I have been using it to load 40 cal to make major. 5.5 Gr CFE Pistol 180 Gr coated (Ibejihead) bullet 1.18 OAL Shoots good and is accurate and reliable. I bought the CFE pistol back when powder was getting hard to find without really having a purpose for it. When I started shooting limited I figured I would try it out as I have been using Titegroup for 9mm and WST for 45.
  10. Agree with this 100%. The really good shooters benefit from the major scoring and have the ability to go one for one when they have to. The B class hacks like me benefit from the extra two rounds but lose out on the extra points. I do find my 9mm 1911 to be extremely pleasant to shoot though. My .45 not so much.
  11. I think the classification system is working fine. Every time I go to a major match I shoot within 5% of my classifier score in relation to my division winner.
  12. Stock STI mags with a stock STI slide release would be the combination I'd use if I wanted my slide to lock back.
  13. I can see how having them in front of you could be distracting. High above or slightly behind would be better.
  14. I ran an "Introduction to Practical Pistol Shooting" seminar at our local club to try and bring in more club members and get them involved. It's great that we have people driving 90 minutes to get to our matches but I can't expect those folks to come early and stay late as well. We need more local participation and this has helped. I'd like to run another one in the Fall as well.
  15. You can only make major power factor with 9mm in Open Division.
  16. We had a pretty good turnout for Carry Optics at our last match.11 CO shooters in a 90 person match is a pretty good showing I think. We has 9 PCC shooters as well.
  17. I shoot a STI Trojan 9mm in SS and really enjoy it. The gun shoots so flat and there is so little recoil and it's very accurate. For me the Dawson magazines work well in my guns. I have a Trojan in 45 as well but hardly shoot it - the only time I miss major scoring is when it's time to shoot classifiers.
  18. I don't think it is recognized as a national champion in that case.
  19. I don't think major is falling out of favor in limited because of the scoring difference. You can shoot a little faster and accept more charlies shooting major than you can while shooting minor.
  20. I was having the same issue and tried a Lee Factory Crimp die in my last station hoping that would fix it. It did. I now have the Lee FCD for every pistol caliber I reload.
  21. The other consideration is not having to sort brass by primer size with 40. If I had to do it again I'd go with a 40 for that reason alone.
  22. Friend of mine bought one used off the forum here and loves it. He's all in with shooting Limited division now - no more production or single stack for him.
  23. That's very true. I know this first hand.
  24. I ask myself this a lot - not just about shooting but about most things. Why?
  25. Pocket Pro 2 works well for me.
