  1. This is a fantastic resource. I still would like to see it live, under the watchful eye of an expert. Kind of like when I learned how to do angioplasty. Watching videos and learning on simulators are great tools but IMHO an adjunct, not a substitute for live instruction
  2. I do not own a Tanfoglio (yet). I am a 1911/2011 fan and carry a CZ PCR. However, I read every thread about Tanfoglios and I am very impressed with the work of Patriot Defense and some of our home gunsmiths on the forum. To be honest, I am intimidated with the complexity of the gun. Despite some excellent YouTube videos, I am somewhat reluctant to buy a Stock2, break out the Dremel and start chasing a 5# DA. Everyone has different learning styles and I know I am not alone here. I would love to have an expert walk me through the process, step by step. When I first starting shooting 1911s, I took a 1911 Armorer course that proved to be very helpful. The Idea (Maybe sponsored by Patriot Defense) A one day course taught by a Tanfo guru Ideal venue is a classroom at a gun range Bring your own Tanfoglio Learn to detail strip it down to every tiny part/spring Tools can be provided or attendees will be given a list of what to bring (Brownell's catalog #s, what grain of sandpaper, polishing compound, etc.) PD could bring bring a selection of their parts (BOLO, springs, etc) that would be available for students to purchase and learn to install at the course A step by step tutorial on how to tune/ polish the innards to achieve the desired trigger pull If a 2 or 3 day course is feasible, maybe add this on to a USPSA skills and drills type class I think that this idea could apply to CZs as well. I love my CGW PCR but I wish that I could have bought the parts from them and done the work myself.
  3. I have 4 Double Taps. Excellent quality part, no more thumb drag on slide
  4. I have a small piece of skate tape on every 1911 and 2011 that I own in this location as an index point for my left thumb. It does absolutely nothing to change holster tension
  5. My squad of 10 had 2 DQs + 1 equipment failure ( my ambi safety was too tall for the box) One of the DQ's was due to an accidental discharge over the berm during a reload. The other was for sweeping the hand while opening a door . From what I was told, a lot of the DQs were on a stage that involved getting up from a bed, retrieving gun and ammo from bag, pulling a very awkwardly long fire alarm cord and then having to open a door. Lots of potential hazards here
  6. Has anyone received any recent communication about logistics, a virtual shooter's brief, check-in times, etc ?
  7. SVI will likely recommend that you have Doug Jones (from Accu-rail) do the install. He did mine. Excellent work. Buy the grip and have the gunsmith of your choice do the job.
  8. what makes the Edge's barrel a "Bull Barrel" but the SP-01 is not??
  9. Acme 180g FP N320 4.5 gr COL 1.180" 5" barrel Made 166 PF at Florida State match
  10. "Memory Stages" are not allowed in IDPA. I will be there...it will be my first major IDPA match. I need to brush up on the new rulebook
  11. My first steel grip was a Phoenix Trinity, not the aggressive one. It got slippery in Central Florida despite copious amounts of Progrip during the summer I now have 2 SVI aggressive grips on my Limited guns. I would never go less aggressive than these. No blood despite about 500 rounds/week + dry fire
  12. For a Northerner, the weather will likely feel warm. Ocean temps prob. around 70 ( I would be in with a wetsuit). The Ritz at Amelia Island is great and deals can be had off season. My family and I prefer the Gulf beaches. Try Longboat key, Siesta Key or Anna Maria Island. Btw: Destin is beautiful but not on the west coast-- it is in the Panhandle, about an hour east of Pensacola
  13. Titusville rifle and pistol club has monthly IDPA matches. No USPSA.
  14. This. I have astigmatism. I have to move the sights 2-3 clicks right on every pistol that I own to get centered groups, even from a rest. Of course I could be contributing to some degree by jerking the trigger.
  15. I stopped playing golf on the weekends because the rounds took too long and my wife got angry. Shooting a USPSA match is not much different. Many prospective new shooters do not want to commit 5+ hours to a match
  16. I read through the equipment rules and no longer see any mention of the dustcover length being an issue. Does this mean that I could use my STI Edge for ESP?? What about Tanfoglio Stock 3 for SSP? I assume that the Stock 2 is excluded because of the Cone barrel. I understand what a cone/flanged barrel is but I am still unclear what defines a "heavy" bull barrel vs. a barrel without a bushing (like you would have in a Glock 34)
  17. If you like the extra weight up front, you could use a tungsten guide rod in an Eagle for USPSA. Put the steel back in for IDPA
  18. I have a 9mm RO that had some work at the SACS S&A magwell which I later changed to a Dawson ICE Trigger job 3# Fiber optic FS (I prefer red) Front strap checkering. In terms of mags, I have tried WilsonETM, Tripp, CMC and Dawson. I like the Dawson's the most and think that they are easiest to seat when fully loaded. CMC are the most difficult. For pouches, I like DAA single stack Racer with bullets out on a DAA Pro belt.
  19. That is what is specified in the classifier
  20. Nice shooting. You make it look easy. Question regarding Stage 3: Do you have to reload at the cover position and then advance to the barrels (or between the barrels) or can you reload while moving to the next position in the open??
