Question about shot calling: I just finished reading Steve Anderson's 3rd book and have been working hard on shot calling. I definitely see the sights lift in recoil. I am able to determine if the shot is off to the left or right. I have absolutely no clue if it is high or low. In recoil, the front sight is always above the rear sight. I can't tell the difference between the high and low misses. The front sight never seems to dip low in recoil but sometimes the shot is low. Help me figure this out please

STI Eagle 5.0, in .40 cal spring question?
Balakay replied to Majority1775's topic in 1911-style Pistols
I have an Eagle with an SVI grip. The factory recoil spring is a 14# variable. I like 12# variable with 170PF -
I use the DAA outer belt. The inner belt is not thick enough to use with TekLok. Holster will slide around on the belt. I have no love handles and still easily pass the dowel test

I am shooting my first major match at the end of the month. I am looking for any words of advice. Any deviation in typical dry fire/live fire routines? My equipment and ammo is squared away. I have reviewed the stage diagrams but I find it hard to plan based on paper alone.

Thanks it is the stainless grip

My first steel grip was a Phoenix Trinity textured grip (not the aggressive grip). I thought it was so rough at first but grew to like it. When the time came to get a steel grip for my other 2011, I went with the Aggressive SVI Signature grip. At first I thought it was a mistake. As I had read on this forum, it was like holding a piece of coral. After about a week of shooting and dry fire, I no longer felt the sharpness. The grip is perfect for me with a short trigger. I have average (at best) sized hands. I just ordered another SVI grip to replace the Phoenix Trinity

I was in a similar situation, loading only pistol on a 550B. I just bought a 650 that will be dedicated to .40. If I had to do it again, I would have bought a 1050. I am finding at least 3 or 4 per hundred cases with a crimped primer pocket. I also absolutely hate the priming system on the 650. When you factor in stoppages and having to clear the shell plate, I was much faster on my 550, easily loading 100 rounds in 7 minutes

20% further from your hand, not closer to your target. Unless he was shooting at a target from 5 inches away

Thanks. 16# + 1# of n310 for giggles

Can I use a different crimp die on my 550B?
Balakay replied to ChemistShooter's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Any standard die will work. I use a Redding taper crimp die -

I just got my STI frame and slide back after having an Infinity Signature grip and mag well installed. If my hands stop bleeding, this gun will be used for both USPSA and IDPA. 140 mm STI mags work perfectly. The 126 mm STI mags are an issue. The height of the stock STI base pad makes it somewhat difficult to seat the magazine. Sometimes during a reload from slide lock, the mag drops when the slide release is used to bring the slide forward. I tried using a 3mm TTi base pad but it will not work with the mag well. What are my options?? STI makes a very flat profile carry base pad that I think will seat easily but reloads will be harder due to nothing extending out of the mag well Infinity sells an IDPA legal base pad--will this work with an STI tube? Are the new SVI magazines compatible with an SVI grip/STI frame and slide ? I would appreciate any suggestions.

I used a Dawson precision Ice in ESP. It is for sale. PM me if interested

I view it like a pre-shot routine in golf. Durations vary but 27 waggles are excessive and annoying. If you take 60+ seconds after "make ready" at local match, I would try to show up earlier and learn the stages and do your visualization.

I have Hear-Pro Pro37s. Good protection but I still double-up at matches. Agree with going to an audiologist for the molds. Might pay a bit more but IMO worth it

Magazine release with Phoenix Trinity grip
Balakay replied to Balakay's topic in General Gunsmithing
Thanks. I will grind the mag release button. Best tool/ dremel bit for this?? -
I just picked up a phoenix Trinity grip. The STI Mag release protrudes on the right side and digs into my middle finger. The BCG cyclone button also needs to be grinded down because it contacts the grip and will not drop a magazine. I am a little nervous to start grinding with the Dremel on my gun. Any suggestions/words of wisdom etc? Which dremel attachment works best for this?

Really? I think the best place to shoot in central Florida is the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club .... We have every discipline you can name, even archery, plus action shooting matches every weekend .... And the lowest annual dues you'll ever find .... And the best match of course is the monthly Steel Challenge match on the first Sat of the month ... Does this mean USPSA is back at PMRPC?? I know there had been some issues.
