  1. You don't have to spend an arm and a leg. The vast majority of weight can be trimmed out of a barrel and hand guard. These two pieces also happen to reduce the forward weight of the rifle making the rifle feel lighter by moving the balance closer to the shooter. I put together a 6 lb, 14.5" pinned comp rifle with a 1-6 optic mounted and the rifle itself was ~$1300. That was with nice parts, Voodoo unicorn barrel and Odin hand guard but no titanium. The titanium parts can get you below 5 lbs but the cost per ounce saved isn't always within the budget. You can do fine with standard forged upper and lower receivers, a MFT or other light stock and a light weight carrier / buffer. The rifle I built has had 3 shooters all run it in a local 3-gun match, ~500 rounds in a day. Nothing super hard, but it runs and runs and runs. Got me through Fallen Brethren just fine in any case, and I certainly appreciated the weight savings in slung rifle stages. I like that rifle so much that the next two rifles have been pretty close to that spec (18" 223 and a 9mm PCC). I can send you a parts list if you would like a starting place.

    Shadow 2 msrp

Price doesn't matter. Things like the front and back strap checkering and grip geometry improvements (depending on your hand) are worth a test since I can't change these in Production rules. A Melonite treatment on a S1 would cost ~$200-$300 depending on who does it, plus turnaround time. After shooting it, I'll figure out if I want to keep the S1 or S2, sell the other, and get a backup in whichever flavor I prefer. If they are more accurate and shoot better, then it's a win. 25k rounds in training plus travel, match fees and spare parts will likely outweigh the cost of the Shadow by at least 4-fold anyways.
  3. The only scoring issues were with some RO's that didn't get the timer in close to the action on the 9mm PCC's for the last shot. We had a few re-shoots because of that but otherwise things went well. The suppressed shotgun didn't have any issues with the timer that I heard about. I don't care so much about for USPSA. But for fun steel matches, suppressed is a whole heck of a lot more fun than 38SC shorties with popple holes AND a comp...
  4. Well, since it's such a small part maybe you could put it in your repair kit just in case. You never know, in between doing field repair on other guy's shotguns you might be able to fix an AR that keeps launching buffers when it gets taken apart
  5. Yes the Armageddon trigger works in the JP GMR-13. I have shot both the JP standard and JP Roller and prefer the standard trigger, but my preference is for curved triggers and not straight triggers. Folks that like straight triggers might prefer the Armageddon. I'm a big fan of the JP standard trigger in my JP lower, very clean single stage with a nice short reset. I also know the JP has been used for thousands and thousands of rounds and won't start randomly doubling or going full auto. And it was only a ~$150 upgrade with the lower anyways.
  6. Download your mags to start with. I use GLOCK 17 bodies with TTI extensions that hold 23, loaded to 20-22 depending on how many shots after the reload I need. You can also JB weld some silicon carbide on or use skate tape but downloading your mag will help more. If you are running Colt pattern steel mags and can't do the short sticks, give a tug on the mag as you change your grip. If it comes out, your hand is still on the mag and you can quickly re-seat it instead of having it end up on the ground.
  7. That looks like a GLOCK brand GLOCK 33 rounder with a Taylor Freelance 41+1 extension kit. Take a Glock 33, swap on the kit base pad and spring, and you get 41.
  8. Something similar happened at a major match recently. The match director, who did a fantastic job throughout the match with a bunch of other things, gave a very straightforward, no bullshit response. He look at both guns for about 2 seconds, looked the shooter right in the eye and said, "Yep, it's an open gun." If your gun legitimately breaks at a match, the last thing I'd want to happen to you as a competitor is to HAVE a backup you can't shoot. As long as it satisfies the open division requirements, you're well within the rules as others have pointed out.
  9. For a 16" barrel, pick one for the looks. There's a minimal amount of gas unless you run upwards of ~150 PF using lighter bullets in a 5" SBR. I liked the look of my JP until my Omega 9k comes in to protect the threads
  10. I really hope this Easter weekend schedule gets reconsidered. In addition to the holiday, in a 3 week period they are between the Texas 3 Gun Championship and Vortex/Shooters Source matches. Location doesn't matter so much as the timing to me. I'd actually like to shoot outside of Texas, maybe... As much as I'd like to go, USPSA just keeps finding new and interesting ways to disappoint.
  11. The base pads you want are either the 41+1 kit which comes with the basepad and a stupid long spring or the +12 basepad. The +12 basepad only adds 10 to the 31 due to the size of the spring in the kit. They work extremely well though.
  12. JP GMR 13's have ambi safeties for you wrong handers. And you can get them with a gold finish
  13. Very nice. I need to find someone local with a CZC pack installed, 3 lb trigger with just under 2.5mm reset sounds very good. Will y'all be offering a complete package for the trigger pack including the CZC disco soon?
  14. The HBI spring and a little polish is absolutely the most bang for your buck I have ever had in a trigger. $4 spring and about 20 minutes and the CZ trigger went from awful to nearly identical to a Glock 4.5 lb trigger pull. I'm interested to see how good people can get the CZ trigger with hammers, sears and new triggers because it's an absolute joy to shoot.
  15. TXMXRACER, when you feel it, know that with a $4 spring from HB industries and a little polish you can get the trigger to feel nearly identical to a 4.5 lb GLOCK trigger. Stock, the trigger is atrocious. With the HBI spring, it's pretty decent.
  16. I built mine with a JP dedicated complete lower (with JP installed trigger), bolt and springs. All the "moving parts" essentially are JP while the furniture, upper etc. are a mix of lightweight parts and things I had in the spare parts / prize table box. All together mine weighs just under 6 lbs with an Aimpoint pro. The JP install trigger is unreal. If you go the MPX or CZ route, you're giving up a little (MPX is picky about triggers) and a lot (CZ trigger can only be made so good) to the AR trigger. I've got ~2000 rounds through my JP now. I have shot nearly any random load I could find but the majority of rounds were my production 147 grains that chrono'ed 145 PF out of the 16" barrel. The JP flat out runs. I have had exactly ZERO malfunctions. Not oh I blame that one on the ammo or oh I blame that on the mag, ZERO. A 9mm platform that used GLOCK brand GLOCK mags and the new ETS mags was a big consideration for me since I wanted this kind of reliability. I've had almost 20 people shoot my JP both at matches and after matches. The HUGE smiles afterwards make this my most satisfying build because 4 have put orders in and another 3 are planning their builds out. I'd be happy to share my build list if anyone was interested.
  17. So um, I made a very un-manly sound. I'm seriously considering coming in from Texas to shoot something like this!
  18. I've emailed and had the MD email to confirm. I'll just send the emails again then since I've heard the same information from several people.
  19. Since we are on the topic, if I have a score marked "A" (This classifier was not used, since the score is more than 15% above class and determined by the data enterer to be invalid) and I will move up a class such that the criteria would no longer apply (i.e. would be within 15%), will that score be counted towards my classification? Or is an "A" mark simply flagged forever.
  20. That's good to know. I figured y'all kept track of how many times it had happened. It does show the holster design works given there is only 1 instance of a pistol falling out, and that instance was due to the tension screw not being set. Thank you for letting the community know. Since you did indicate the person was you, I wanted to say thank you for taking that DQ professionally. It reflected very well on you and NERD.
  21. Very unfortunate. As others have said, if you paid with a card you can dispute the charge. Thank you for posting your experience so others do not make the same mistake. Also as JGus mentioned, NorthernFirearms on Gunbroker is a different outfit and is a very reputable seller. I have also purchased from them and would again.
  22. I do not. I need to order one to try out. I've had about 4 people recommend them, I guess it's time.
  23. No doubt the NERD is faster. I'll come clean and say I'm about 99% on my ALS draws being in the 1.0-1.2 s time to first shot range after a year of strict dry fire practice. I do muff draws but it's happening less and less the more I dry fire and practice. I'd probably be 0.1s faster with the NERD, no doubt it's easier to draw. Thing is, I forgot things. Like tensioning my pistol screw. Like the dude I saw. He admitted he completely forgot about it when making ready. NERD makes great stuff and if they had a hood on that holster instead of a screw I'd probably get one. Murphy is real though. We all have different levels of acceptable risk.
  24. As much as I want to like the concept, I can't run something without active retention in 3-Gun. I have seen a pistol bounce out of the NERD holster. It's the same feeling no matter the holster it comes out of and it sucks to end a match that way. Literally watching the pistol bounce right out is just something I can't un-see and the reason I'm sticking with my ALS. Watching a 6" 2011 bounce up to the tip in the holster, then back in, then back up to the tip and back in would be a close second in reasons I can't go without retention. If it was an inch shorter... Draw time is such a small contribution to total match time in 3-Gun compared to USPSA even if retention adds 0.1 or 0.2 s to your draw to disengage, that's still worth it to me. $300 match in match fees and another couple hundred in hotel and travel plus time off work is just not worth the risk. Hell, not being able to shoot the whole match because my pistol ended up in the dirt would be worse than all of that!
