  1. I ran Blue Bullets 147 gr over 3.2 grains of Bullseye loaded to 1.150" OAL yesterday. No hiccups at all. Luck of the draw on CZ barrels maybe
  2. Out of curiosity, what made you pick up a Jackson Group if you already had the CZ Custom?
  3. dansedgli try a soft tooth brush lightly. We used to use them rock climbing to get chalk off the rocks. Worth a shot
  4. Doesn't Mr. Horner use a MAG lower? I agree lighter barrel, handguard and other areas will result in less felt and actual weight. But if you want to go light, by all means have fun and go light. Invest a couple months and a couple thousand good rounds of practice and let us know the benefits and limitations of what you built.
  5. Thank you for the full disclosure sir, and the honest review!
  6. I thought a 6" sight tracker would be all the rage in 9 mm. Then I shot one and hated it. Even with a lightened slide it was just too slow cycling, felt lethargic in my hands. That was a damn fine pistol which I'm sure you've seen around. If I were to go with a 2011 platform for 3-gun, I'd stick with a 5" bull barrel for 9 mm and probably a full dust cover with a big steel grip. But that was the gun that worked in my hands and balanced well for me. Definitely try to have him shoot a couple of samples to see what fits him.
  7. Yep, then 20 is definitely the way to go. Anything to make the shooting buddy happy!
  8. Have you talked about open? My wife hates my M2, wasn't fond of a VersaMax, but shot the snot out of an open gun with a comp. When I told her she was shooting hotter shells than I was, she called me a baby. I've tried setting up a 20 gauge but the aftermarket is limited. Tried putting a fat squishy stock on a VM and having a sporting clays friend fit the gun to her, still didn't help enough. In the end, it looks like the dark side won and she will be shooting the gun with a comp and a dot. Anything to keep shooting!
  9. VEPRs are pretty solid and can be set up for 3-Gun to run reliably although like any gun, there's preventative maintenance that will go a long way. The 10 and 20 round mags are pretty robust but if they get dropped in sand you would want to clean them, just like any other magazine. The VEPR I shot had a slick comp that worked great with 1350 fps Double A's. The dot barely wiggled and cleaning a plate rack...there aren't many things that can make you smile like that. The guy that let me shoot his open guns does great work greatlakes08.
  10. Awesome, thank you guys. Will try shortening up the OAL first then see if that clears up the issues.
  11. Garmil do you happen to load 147s? I'm looking for a good OAL for a new SP-01. My M&P load at 1.16" OAL plunks fine in my CZ but gets stuck nose up into the slide. I got some advice to load shorter to around 1.10" OAL; factory Blazer brass 115s function 100% so decently sure the issue is with my load.
  12. We are changing that up a bit. We are planning on doing shotgun matches on months with an extra weekend (5th Saturday). I like the idea of creating a series for Texas (or even TOLA)... Good to know, thank you sir! Sooo, the first match in the series is on Jan 30th?
  13. I'm in to help setup, RO and definitely shoot. Shotgun only matches are my favorite! Copperhead has their quarterly shotgun events which have been awesome. Maybe we can offer some beers to the guys at ETTS and Dissident to join the fun and round out the North/South Texas areas?
  14. At 3.2 grains I was getting ~130-132 PF but I was using an M&P Pro and CCI primers. I started at 3 and went to 3.4 in 0.1 grain increments. I'm about to start loading for a SP-01 and plan on doing the same thing.
  15. Cap, my Adams 16.5"s have functioned properly on RRA, Aero and Adams standard carbine lowers on diets of anything from Freedom plinkers to hand loaded 69's going ~2850. Definitely contact Cody at Adams Arms and he will get you taken care of quickly.
  16. Excellent, thanks for the suggestions. Will report back when she gets sorted out. Between a VM, light loads and a good pad, she will hopefully be able to shoot all day. If not, there's always open division
  17. This is for 3gun. 2 3/4 dram Federal loads in my M2 were as low as I could get to cycle 90% ish for her. The same load in the Versa was much more manageable. She's definitely sticking to low recoil slugs. So far it looks like she's leaning towards a VM with a KickEez recoil pad since the ComforTech doesn't seem possible. She got a chance to run a VM with a nice pad and it was a pretty dramatic difference in how well she shot and the size of her grin.
  18. Squibs are a big safety issue. For the couple of squibs I have had (factory ammo) I stopped shooting and once was also stopped by the RO. I thanked the RO for stopping me and didn't think twice about my score. In my mind the rule is fair. If there is a bullet lodged in the barrel due to a squib load, the stage is over for the competitor as the gun is now unsafe and should be demonstrated to be safe after the issue is remedied. If there is no bullet lodged in the barrel or the RO made a simple mistake, I'm happy to re-shoot the stage. No big deal.
  19. Practice loading at home. I try to do short sessions of no more than 15 minutes a couple of times a week rather than extended sessions. Try double and quads as well as traditional weak hand loading and practice each for a couple of weeks until you find what works for you. Order an extended magazine tube. I prefer 12 rounds total using a 10 round RCI and a +2 extension but it depends on your preference and anticipated division. Practice loading at home. Go out and pattern your chokes at a couple of distances to see how YOUR shotgun patterns with YOUR chokes. You don't have to use all your chokes, I only patterned IC and LM so far but I KNOW where my pattern is at 10, 15 and 20 yards. While you're at the range also check your slugs with the same chokes to make sure (1) they cycle and (2) where they hit relative to your point of aim at 50/75/100 yards if possible. Practice loading at home. When you load at the range, at the pre-load table at a match or at home, ALWAYS load from your caddies. I had a bad habit of loading up my tube at a match from a box of shells until I was asked by an experienced shooter why I was skipping my warm up.
  20. I've had two jams in my M2 over 5000 rounds of bird so far. One was a bad primer (no boom) and the other was a mangled shell I shouldn't have put in the gun to start with. I'm happy knowing that the failure rate of my M2 is nearly the failure rate of the ammunition. I will clean and lube it after every match, respring it once a year and know that it will last many seasons at the rate I shoot. There are a few old timers around that suggested the M2 based on more shooting experience than I can imagine. I owe them a thank you. With the M2, I can focus on 100% of my energy improving my technique. "What if my M2 breaks" never crosses my mind.
  21. Hi jjw thanks for the reply and suggestion. I'll see if anyone local has one in stock. The backup plan is to fit another stock or pad to a VersaMax but she is definitely going to a gas gun. I'm most familiar with the ComforTech but I'm hoping she can get a feel for some other options if the ComforTech won't work out.
  22. I have a friend that I've been getting slowly addicted to shooting over the past year. We are at the point where she's looking at getting her own shotgun after shooting my M2 for a while at matches and practice. While she loves the weight of the M2, due to some swimming related shoulder issues most days are 50 rounds max of bird shot or 2-3 full power slugs before she's had enough of the Benelli. She had a chance to shoot the VersaMax which was much easier on the shoulder overall but not quite ideal. I know there are other recoil pads available for the Remington, but I was wondering if the Benelli Comfortech stock can be made to fit a VersaMax? If I understand correctly, the stocks are not directly interchangeable, but I'm wondering if it can be done with a little creativity?
  23. I love the TiN barrel, where did you get it?
  24. I was able to change squad just now. You might send Brook an email if you can't find the registration link.
  25. The issue I ran into with Blue Bullets was that if I dropped a mag in fine dust, the dust really stuck to the polymer and wasn't easily wiped off. That caused a couple of jams in my M&P which has a much more forgiving chamber in comparison to a CZ. With plated or other coatings, if a mag hits the dust I can wipe the bullets down when I wipe the mags down. After dropping a magazine, the Blue Bullets take too much wiping and usually feel rough on the outside. I liked the Blue Bullets a lot. Straight from the box they shot really well and very soft loaded to ~130 PF compared to plated at ~130PF. Prices are great and Nathan is great to work with. Unfortunately, Texas is filled with dusty ranges so I'm trying out different coated offerings.
