  1. +1 for the Dawson .100. Noticed your load velocity is a bit low. Simple rule is to add at least 2xSTD to the min velocity needed to make power factor.
  2. Eli, curious minds want to know more about the PVC setup. It acts like a primer tube but for brass, is that the idea? How do u attach it to the press for proper feeding? Thanks EngineerJojo
  3. Better put some on back order if u can. Or u end up paying 5x the cost on GB if u get desperate.

  5. Have you tried the snake skin front strap on the CCO or on a similar size pistol? I personally don't feel it gives me enough positive control so I use 25 or 30 LPI checkering like the ECO. If you are buying new, Osage County Guns has some of the best prices. CCO is $1289, ECO is $1359. They will take care of you. I purchased a DW from them a couple years ago. I hope this helps.
  6. Re: bountyhunter - When you go below 4.25" I think it is a significant factor. I am comfortable carrying a fully custom 4" cmdr but that is only because I know the weapon is dependable AND the ammo is selected for adequate muzzle velocity. IMHO you can't go wrong with a DW commander. Great value, high quality. For a less expensive option, also consider the Sig RCS or similar model. You can't beat the price/feature combination. Whatever direction you go, I highly recommend LOTS of defensive pistol practice with it (dry fire and significant live fire).
  7. Thanks for sharing all the good ideas. Merry Christmas to all!
  8. If you would be interested in developing another app, contact me. I need a coder.
  9. Absolutely! I compete with the 1911 and tried several platforms/versions thinking I might carry something different. Decided it was a bad idea. Sold them all. I'm sticking with the 1911 platform. Haven't looked back.
  10. Awesome thread! Been struggling with this too. Thanks for the advice, especially the focus=fast part.
  11. Thanks for this post. I'm struggling with the same problem. Food for thought.
  12. Cool! Sounds like you've got a good load! And best of all you don't have to worry about failing PF if you follow the 2*STD guide and measure the STD with 8 rounds.
  13. The most important value from your chrono is the STD. Use 8 rounds to measure and add 2 to 2.5 times the STD to the minimum velocity required to meet PF. This will give you 90 to 95% confidence in meeting PF as measured per the rule book. Note that the values 2 and 2.5 assume 8 rnds are used to measure STD. Let's see new data with the STD.
  14. Here is another feature: PF (statistical) - when this feature is used, the PF is calculated by adding 2*STD (could also offer 2.5*STD) to the minor or major PF velocity. This feature provides a high degree of confidence that the PF will be met when measured per the USPSA rules.
  15. major at 165-170 PF. Careful there unless u don't mind shooting open. I recommend adding 2 to 2.5 times your std to the required PF velocity. This puts u at about 170 to 175 PF and very little chance of going minor.
  16. So for a 165 PF the min velocity is 1320 fps. If you add 2 to 2.5 times your STD it gives you a desired load velocity of 1356 to 1365. Personally I find that 170 or slightly above is a sweet spot but there is nothing wrong with a few extra PF points. I know some people that recommend up to 175. Once you know how your powder behaves at worse case temperatures you could reduce the velocity if you want. If you can’t tell a difference in perceived recoil and it shoots accurately then I say you have a winner! I usually warm up the gun with a mag or two before I chrono and I chrono at least twice to make sure the STD is consistent (within a few fps or so). 8 rounds is all you need since 2 and 2.5 were calculated based on 8 samples. FYI - my STD for my comp load is usually about 12 to 16 fps. I load in 200 to 500 rnd batches and I chrono it about every 1000 round or so.
  17. Your data looks reasonable but it would help to know your standard deviation. As long as your STD is below 20 fps, you can go with the 6.8 gn of Autocomp. Your velocity isn't high enough yet on your WSF load. I recommend a minimum of 1331+2*STD.
  18. I can show you why its only a matter of time (or rather chance) before you fail to meet power factor following the rule book procedure.
  19. The most important data from your chronograph is the Standard Deviation (STD) and you didn't include that. Bottom line is trying to use 3 rounds to measure your average velocity is extremely difficult (because of the huge statistical uncertainty using only 3 samples). I've done the statistical analysis and highly recommend using the following method. You should use 8 rounds (that's all you need) to measure your velocity and STD. Use these measurements as follows. My guidance is to add 2 to 2.5 times your standard deviation to the required velocity to make PF. This gives you your load velocity. This method will give you a high certainty of meeting PF (on the order of 90 to 95% certainty). For a 155 grain bullet, an average velocity of at least 1065 ft/sec is needed to meet major power factor. Lets say your typical measured standard deviation for this load is 15 fps. Simply add 30 ft/sec (2*STD=2*15) which results in an average load velocity of 1065+30 = 1095 ft/sec. Again, measure it with 8 rounds. Note that you still need to account for big factors that affect velocity such as ammo temperature, barrel temp and cleanliness but this is the best way to ensure you meet power factor. I hope this helps!
  20. data and graphs and technical discussions... this is the place for me! must be some engineers in the bunch.
  21. Yes, the same platform, 1911. I tried others but wanted the consistency between competition and carry. Closest I came to the 1911 was the H&K USP in DA/SA with the safety/decocker lever. In the end I decided to go all 1911. LesBaer for comp and Wilson Sentinel for carry.
  22. jroback's comments is right on. I finally realized not focusing enough on the sight pic and being aware of or honest about the picture when I made the shot has been holding me back. Trying to correct that now. I like the idea of the laser bullet so I'll add that to my dry fire practice. Thanks
  23. Good thread. I heard some good ideas I had not thought of. I too only load the bullet and color the brass red. At first I left the used primers in but my firing pin would get stuck in the primer after repeated dry firing.
  24. Welcome! If you want to get some shotgun time come join us for the Pike's Peak Shotgun Challenge on 17 May at the Pike's Peak Gun Club in Colorado Springs. Cheers
  25. Hi Matt, Welcome. Sounds like you are set for reloading! But what I want to know is what are you using to shoot all that ammo with? I didn't think you were allowed to own a gun in Chicago... Joel
