  1. For those who cut the sear to allow the thumb safety to fit how do measure how much to mill off the sear. I see the reasoning behind this method. Just didn't think you take the sear in and out of your mill making a small cut then install and then take out, cut more reinstall until it fits.
  2. I thread the barrel, cut it and install a cone sleeve. No bushing and better lock up than a bull barrel. I purchase the sleeves from Chambers Custom or from Deep River Custom. I think Joe Chambers has them listed on his website store. Deep River you have ask them. I can't make the sleeve for what either of these custom shops sell them for. I have also gone the bushing route, just throwing out an alternative.
  3. One disadvantage of the rail is not a legal pistol for USPSA SS division. Definitely a nice pistol though
  4. What Flatland shooter said. Cut two small slots with dremel fiber disc and bend tab left between the two slots out towards frame and done.
  5. ZZT, I've used JEM frames and really like them. And have been bugging Ed to get back into selling slides though it's been awhile. Was pushing him to make a few with 40 cal breech face. Most set up to run 9 and 45 due to huge demand. I'll reach out to him. Interested in what others use if you care to share.
  6. Who are you using for slide manufactures for government length (5") 1911 slides. I really liked PM Machine Company but now they send you over to Nighthawk. And you pay for a lot of blue sky for the same slide except its stamped Nighthawk. Tried Caspian but found the slide lugs machined over to one side (not centered). Maybe just a bad run from Caspian? Tried a Fusion slide and the over sized EGW gunsmith fit barrel bushing just dropped in. got my money back on that one. So who do like and why.
  7. Just not enough market beyond competitive shooters wanting 1911's in 40 S&W but it would be nice wish list item.
  8. Is the finish hard chrome or stainless steel?
  9. Unless there's been a very recent change Ed was having the slides built to his specification by another firm. But I don't think they even sell slides at this time. I was pestering Ed to come out with a 40 breech face slide. IDK why they stopped selling slides. Frames are really nicely done.
  10. I have use cratex wheel on a dermal to remove the markings and small letter punches to remark 40 barrels as 10mm. No it does not look as nice as the factory roll stamp.
  11. cut your Kart barrel, thread about 1 inch at 40 threads per inch and install at tapered barrel sleeve. You can buy the barrel sleeve chambers customs pistols he has a web site.
  12. I've seen crimped Federal Brass in 40 S&W but so far not in Winchester. Make sure the white plastic tab is allowing some horizontal movement of the brass at the priming station. Use a business card to set the gap. Also cut a 40 case to make a gauge so you can visually set the swage rod.
  13. Only on an 1050 with homemade auto drive. Did not have a clutch system that would release when resistance above normal operation was encountered.
  14. I had a totally crushed primer stuck in hole on a 1050 primer feed bar, Just trying to pry it out with very little force it when off. BTW the primer was so crushed the anvil was all ready separated from the primer and was removed first before starting to dig out the primer cup. Maybe it was static electricity that set it off?
  15. Got my replacement motor from DAA at no charge.
  16. Dillon did modified the case feed cam. Been out for at least one year.
  17. Both Rick and DAA got back to right away. Great customer service. Received an email from DAA saying a new motor will be shipped to me. Downer part is the 10 to 14 business days. But still happy with both responses I received. Thank you.
  18. Add me to the list. Motor gave up after 6000 rounds purchased the unit in September 2014 from Shooters Connection. I've emailed Rick who I understand is the developer and Double Alpha Academy who made improvements. My motor just started turning very slow even when empty. From what I see posted in this thread my problem is similar. I hope I hear back from Rick or DAA soon.
  19. This is how I use to do it. Use a Mill to cut 4 vertical starter lines so I know those are straight. Lay my file in the cut lines and do the rest of the vertical lines down to 1/3 depth. Then visually line up file for cross cut lines. If you take the verticals to full depth its real hard to start the file on the cross cuts. So I take each direction down 1/3 at a time. Then dress points with a 60 degree needle file. After deciding I was loosing money on hand checkering I purchased a Kustom Ballistics checkering jig and never looked back. I recommend you start on the vertical lines first. On the cross cut lines install your grips and draw a pencil line down the sides. Remove the grips and put some tape along the pencil line. The taped edge will be your stopping point for the cross cut lines. Stainless is a PITA but doable. Your index finger tip will hate you.
  20. Chris are the kicked out primers damaged or deformed? And what caliber brass? I have 3 super 1050's. The 1050 setup for 9mm gives me the most headaches but its not the press its the range brass I use. I've solved 90 percent of my priming problems by have the swager set properly. And if I want the other 10 percent of my problem solved it would require using one brand or manufacture of brass and set the machine for that brass only. 9mm brass is problematic due to numerous manufactures tolerances. Why I ask about the condition of the primers you are finding on your bench. They may be catching the edge of a poorly shaped primer pocket. The primer seater then deforms the primer because it can't be inserted properly.
  21. 40 breech face will not work for 9mm. Recommend complete top end for 9mm conversion. You will also need different magazines. ejector will need changed out as well.
  22. www.twoalphabullets.com offers coated 40 and 9 bullets in various weights without the wax grove. Recommend you call them since the their web site doesn't spell that out in any great detail. They use the same coating product as Bayou Bullets. They will also size bullets to your specifications. I happened to like .357 diameter bullets in one of my 9mm autos.
  23. With a complete tool head for the change out I can go from 40 to 9mm in about 15 minutes on a 1050 and I'm not pushing myself to set any type of speed record, This includes putting tools away and the removed tool head set on a shelf.
