  1. One other thing to check to see if your grip has slipped down from good contact with the frame. Had a guy come by said his gun was not firing every time. He skipped the part that he changed plastic grip. After messing around for way to much time due to lack of candor from gun owner I found excessive gap between frame and grip and middle sear finger was slipping off then under disco
  2. Jesseskinner I use a 1/4 guide rod from Nighthawk so I can use flat wire springs. The rounded bull nose is something I did later on but I left enough material in the end of the guide plug so could round it off. Barrel is 5" cut down to 4" and sleeved. PM me if you want more information.
  3. I will try for some pictures tonight. I put a sleeve on the barrel. Also chambered the barrel for 38SuperComp. Make a nice carry piece.
  4. Read up Para Ordnance and if you shot the game 25 plus years ago the P-16 was the go to pistol for limited class. Remington acquired Para
  5. I cut this 5" slide and guide rod down to 4" and made my own guide rod plug. Guide rod does not stick out past end of muzzle
  6. thank you GBertolet and Cheers623
  7. Tool guy, 2011 type Hi Power Jack they loaded the gun themselves.
  8. From the load and make ready the first round in my open 9major pistol is always a few inches to the right (10 yds). At 30 yards its off the target. All rounds after are at point of aim. Even in practice with no pressure being under the timer. Thought it might be the Aftec Extractor so change to EGW extractor but made no difference. Thought it might be hitting comp so enlarged bore still no difference. Tried different magazines, no change. Gave gun to two different shooter and they duplicated same results. First shot to the right from load make ready all the rest are point of aim. Chacked chamber depth with No Go gauge all is good. Load is 115 gr HAP with 8.8 gr HS6 Tried some 124gr Everglades Ammo 9major and had some problem So what should I check now?
  9. Not a good day. Reached out to Kensight and see if they will warranty. Hope so
  10. Everglades Ammo makes them, have to email them. Not on their web site.
  11. During your practical shooting career have you seen this brass detonation happen during unload and show clear where the shooter launches the round into the air and catches it. I worry about it when I RO someone who likes to do this. But I have never seen what you described happen.
  12. Glad to read others had trouble taping mag releases. Unbelievable how hard the metal in these things are.
  13. Has anyone tried the SVI Billet Grip Trigger Bow in their EVO grip. Any modifications required.
  14. Would like to learn more about this if you have time to post pictures
  15. What Powder Finger said. I use a punch and make two dimples along the left edge below the leafs. Or more recently used shrink wrap used for insulating electrical connections and put it around spring below the leafs and above the hook at bottom. Heated it to shrink and the sear spring is aligned.
  16. Is your slide flat topped. Possible elevation screw on sight was not shortened and contacting firing pin spring/pin.
  17. Wouldn't hurt to take mags apart and make sure they are clean inside.
  18. Don't know what it is about mag releases but they seem to be made from the hardest metal on the planet. I found drilling and taping 4-40 threads difficult on a few no name mag releases I've done. Even heated one up to see if that would soften the metal.
  19. worked out OK. Directions are very easy to follow. I did go look at couple of Brazos open pistols built by the man himself before I did the cut and found the zig racker on those pistols have a loose side to side or some wiggle movement
  20. Would someone be kind enough to measure the width on the base on their zigracker. Mine is 0.344 - 0.345. Edges are rounded off and looks great in the the package. But wondering how this will fit up in the 0.375 dovetail cut that is recommended. thanks.
  21. What is used to fill the bottom grip screw hole? Do you just soften the grip plastic and push it around to fill up the hole? Or do you add some kind of filler then stipple over. I do not want the STI logo showing or lower grip screw hole left when done stippling. Thanks
  22. You guys that build a lot of open guns what is the correct back angle relief for the comp and slide. I see written often it is 1 degree but have measure several open pistols of late all which run great with thousands of rounds through the pipe. The angle on the slide muzzle varied from 0.7 to 1.25 degrees. Oh and Joe Chambers that Black Mumba open gun you built and talked about in the open pistol forum is awesome.
  23. Thanks guys. I'm very comfortable doing thumb safety fitting. Do about a dozen each year. RIIID and ZZT hit the nail on the head. The situation for my inquiry is a hard chromed thumb safety will not fit correctly to a new sear. Welding up the thumb safety burnished the hard chrome finish. (tried peening the thumb safety first and did not work). So went with stainless thumb safety with customer approval. I offered to send new safety off for hard chroming, but pistol was needed for upcoming Kansas Sectional. This project got me to thinking if the prior gunsmith had left the thumb safety alone I could have modified the sear (cheaper part) and replaced the sear only. Or had this been blued finish I would have welded it up, fit it then re-blue. May try dykem method mentioned above on a sear and see how it works out (my guns).
