  1. I have been downrange taping targets when the RO started the "Make Ready" cycle. That was back during the days of solid walls and lack of visibility for the RO over the stage. As an RO, I like the mesh walls and the ability to see the stage well enough to ensure safety.
  2. As an RO, I would have to think on it for a minute, but off the cuff, I see no rule allowing any change allowed to the shooter nor any safety violation. As a shooter, I would either load my barney mag and make an immediate reload on the draw or take my knife to the holster in the safety area. However, with most of the place I shoot, I bet a few holsters would get offered to the shooter.
  3. What weight bullet are you running? I run a 115 coated and 9.6 gets me well over major. I have found some coated work well and other smoke heavily.
  4. I have a Criterion Remage 260 barrel sitting in the safe. But no barrel nut.
  5. Despite all its bad press, the LoadMaster is not a bad press. It requires an absolutely solid mounting, needs to be well lubed, and has a lot less tolerance than the Dillon, but if you set it up properly it will run without needing constant fiddling. A 550 on the other hand is a lot more tolerant of slop.
  6. Loading 38 Super Comp for my open gun and my powder stash is beginning to reach its end. Only place I can find 3n38 in stock is a couple of Canadian Companies that don't ship to the US, so I am going to have to move to an alternative powder and I am looking for recommendations.
  7. I have the Rudy Projects with the insert/hanger in them. My optometrist has never had an issue putting my prescription in the hanger and my prescription is in the BAT BLIND QUINTAFOCAL category. I do understand that putting a high prescription in the curved primary lens can be a challenge, the Oakley rep actually laughed when asked if it was possible. I like the hanger setup because I can change the primary lens based on the conditions (I have lens sets ranging from clear to the mirror dark sunglasses) and Rudy's hanger far more solid than the hangers I have had in other makes.
  8. You have to be aware of the rebound patterns of shot which change based on the types of poppers. And that pattern will change based on where you shoot the popper from.... At a certain range in NC, parking is just outside the bays. I would back my truck up to unload my gear for the monthly SASS match. When the match was over, every month the bed of my truck would be filled with shot. It would hit the small spring-loaded Larue style poppers, rebound high over the shooters, and the fall pattern was over the parking lot.
  9. Its makes a great home defensive gun for the smaller person who is not a gun person. When they need it, its grab, point, and pull the trigger. No safety to worry about, nothing technical. Due to the low cost of revolvers in the 5 shot 357/38 range, they can be put into a nightstand drawer and not really thought about.
  10. The return of the SL Variant Speedloader (or at least finding a stash of N-Frame 6 shot 357 models for sale) or the introduction of a JetLoader for such.
  11. I regret it. 50 years old and I am wearing hearing aids with significant hearing loss in the upper ranges and constant ringing. Now its plugs with muffs over the top.
  12. So, I have a 38 Super slide just sitting about. Its been cut for a Scheumman ribbed barrel. The question is what should I do with it. Was thinking I could maybe get a new Scheumann Z barrel with ports and a Para ramp and have a "shorty" top end for my existing open gun with no comp. Maybe go with a 9mm barrel and have it setup for shooting steel. I know the slide will need to be professionally built since it is not properly cut. Its from a used gun I bought where the rib was hitting the slide and wrecked the original barrel. Any other interesting ideas on what I could do with it?
  13. That's exactly what Polite Society was. Real world gear and real world stages. But when you had most stages that required only one or two shots, its became very boring very fast. Which is why the concept didn't seem to last very long.
  14. I bought a used Open Gun from a local shooter who was in financial straits at the time. Unknown to me, it had a poorly fitted Scheuman barrel and the slide hitting the rib on the barrel sheared the link off the bottom of the barrel before I had shot a full match with the gun. Later I found out the previous owner had never fired anything but minor ammo through it and not much at that.
  15. Shooting Open with a typical old-school open gun Para Frame, Frame mounted CMORE, 38 Super Comp When I transition to Weak Hand Only, I end up searching for the dot. The dot is being lost on the vertical, I think HIGH with the muzzle pointing downward. Besides Dry Fire, Dry Fire, Dry Fire, are there any techniques for improving natural point of aim with the weak hand?
  16. Cheby, You forgot Revolver. Not the popular kids, but it does still exist. So basically back to the old days of Open, Limited, Revolver.
  17. You can find the same lotions packaged for tennis and golf at places like Academy or Dicks.
  18. Wow, I remember when there was one and only one brand of shielded safety and it was hard to find.
  19. I seem to recall a match that did just that, maybe at Peacemaker Training. X number of stages of this, X number of that.
  20. Steel Challenge match, young shooter goes to holster, gets shirt tail caught as he does, puts round into the ground. Luckily no on was hurt. I have seen far more injuries setting up or tearing down than I have ever seen while shooting or ROing.
  21. SC State has always been a Staff Reset Match. I have worked it as staff, as an RO, and as a CRO. Staff usually consists of two groups. USPSA members, typically locals, who work and get the match fee waived or local range club members who work to get a Work Day credit for the club. For the CRO/RO it works well, after the first couple of shooters, you and the team have a pattern down and you score and work the stage the same way the entire match. Patch/Reset knows which way you are scoring so they know when you will be at various target arrays, etc. Most matches do a good job of taking care of staff. Don't and staff doesn't come back and work the match again. Sure, you won't make a living as match staff, but it can be a fun way to attend, shoot, and work a match. And yes, you will get in a lot of steps!
  22. I use a CR Speed Holster for both my P16 based Limited Gun and my P18 based Open Gun.
  23. Thanks. If I decide to go that route it will be with Mr Abernathy at Tommy Guns, so I am not worried about the machine shop part. And yes, I understand that the various red dots have differing footprints/hole patterns. Just wanted to make sure that the factory slide was capable before I started down that road.
