  1. from a 2013 post here on enos: And, it's not "slide forward, hammer down" anymore... It's "If you are finished, unload and show clear. If clear, hammer down and holster." i'm sure 'slide forward' was part of the rules as i've been trying to get it OUT of my end of stage sequence ever since...
  2. not a fan of matches/directors that want to go way over the top. whether 100+yd shots with a smoothbore or 50+ with a handgun. i mean, we have a friggin rifle in this game, so why the crazy crap with handgun or shottie?
  3. old school 38 super.
  4. just got mine in december. no matches yet. very nice fit and finish. with his load recipe, the gun shoots pretty flat.
  5. look up wondershare filmora. i used to use whatever software that came with the gopro hero and it was very intuitive. but when i upgraded laptops a few years ago it seems that went away.
  6. i think i said it upstream, but just offer a 2 gun option, esp if most of the shotgun targets can be shot with handgun. the couple of matches locally with that option have a bunch of 2 gun shooters. shotgun just adds a ton of complexity and logistics - shot vs slug, different chokes, shell holders in the way of everything. pistol holstered, rifle slung, now you have a 3rd gun to carry to stages on top of your gear bag. then you have MD's making shotguns something they aren't - 50-100+ yard slug shots with smoothbores and even worse on spinners. if there are no other matches that day i'll do a 3 gun-only match, but i'll pick 2 gun or 2 gun option every day.
  7. last gun show (chantilly, va) had fed spp and srp for $90/k OTD. day before yesterday cabelas had fed spp and others for $90/k and a $20 off 100 code. definitely some glimpses but no way out of the woods. i haven't seen winchester srp (not the 5.56 variety) in forever.
  8. first quarter this year. as noted, any gun isn't going to raise you from C to GM, but it will help a little. 2011 trigger at least for me is a huge improvement over glock/canik/etc.
  9. eh, they help. agree that going from glocks to sti's hasn't magically elevated me to GM, but still, they help.
  10. i have one of their 'regular' ds9's. i will say it's a little finicky. i could not push out the slide release pin for the life of me but now that i filed it down ever so lightly it comes out ok. it will not work with sti gen 1 or 2 mags (that work perfectly in my other sti's) but is fine with mbx. and if i load just a little long, it's malf city. BUT now that all that has been resolved, it's been perfect my last handful or two of 2-3 gun matches and i even got a stage win and a couple top 5's with it at some local matches.
  11. yes, shutting them off sucks. using a larger-head philips screwdriver makes it pretty easy to get to the battery.
  12. super bummer, i know doing uspsa, 2 gun etc is one of my favorite things. generally that on the weekends and golf during the week. and a little dirt and street riding here and there. how about teaching some aspect of shooting (obviously and mentioned above already). whether uspsa improvement, or training for carry permits or just general firearms training. new shooter classes, classes for women etc. match director etc. fishing is enjoyable esp saltwater for the bigger ones. i've caught some big stuff just off the outer banks' piers in NC. almost like uspsa matches, lotsa sitting around with a couple minutes here and there of pure excitement. in any event i hope you can replace uspsa etc with something equally enjoying and satisfying!
  13. weird, i have one of the first dvc opens and the slide racker can go in the dovetail either side and there's like a spring loaded detent that holds it into place, no screws.
  14. i've used atlanta .40 major and minor (both their reloads) and 38 super major (new) with no issues. well, one case was somehow loaded a little long and they replaced it no issues. haven't tried any of the others listed.
  15. maybe a little vaseline or oil on the o-ring? of course make sure it isn't cross-threaded.
  16. i've only used the brazos but ended up buying a couple for other guns i liked them so much. did have to do just a little filing to get the thumb safety to work.
  17. honestly on a pure cost per round basis i don't think it's worth it. mostly the shooters are still resetting just like at locals. some throw in a good lunch. more stages, more elaborate stages. some have random draws for a gun or two etc. t-shirt. i've done some, just for something different, get a lot of shooting in. it is cool seeing some of the top shooters hose down some stages. you def should at least try one to judge for yourself.
  18. ditto here (assuming the OP's gun is STI). my dvc open was having hammer follow issues. the first time, whatever they did (i think played with sear spring), didn't work for long. but the 2nd time they changed out all the fcg and it's been working fine in the handful of matches since.
  19. i like the pro ears 300. they go over your ears (vs sitting on like the leights) and are comfortable and relatively quiet. i have no need to double up whether shooting my open gun or ar15 (or hunting rifles with brakes etc).
  20. i have done that (shoot two divisions). the prob is most folks that do that are spending a lot of time reloading mags, switching guns etc and not resetting and pasting. when i did it i brought enough loaded mags for both guns for the whole match. but not as fun, shooting the same thing twice. the good news is i usually have a uspsa or 2-3 gun match to shoot.
  21. yep that is me. closest match is 2 hours round trip so i def want to get a lot of shooting in. bigger stages and/or more stages.
  22. primaryarms has a $20 coupon that pops up for first time buyers there. and they do run 12% periodically, that's how i got my sro (well, one of them).
  23. as long as your ffl doesn't bend you over, it's actually cheaper for them to ship a handgun for you since they can use usps. one option i haven't tried is getting a preprinted ship label from an ffl and then dropping off the pkg at fedex or ups. at least theoretically it's coming from an ffl.
  24. so how do you process the crimped brass? if i have any tension when trying to insert a primer i just toss that case.
