  1. June of 2012 will be 12 years since I gave up smokling. My girl softball team extored me into quitting. I promised them I would quit if they won the girls 15 and under state title. There was no way they were supposed to win, but win they did. right after the trophy ceremoney they trashed all of my cigarettes. Thos girls are all grown, and most have kidsw of their own but they still check me to see if I started smoking again. Man, I woulod feelm terrible if I let them down so it's been almost 12 years, and I'm going strong.
  2. There are two main reasons to acquire any gun: First you want it (need has nothing to do with it) and second you have the money (or can get it, or can borrow it, or can trade for it).

Does that mean if you turn away from it, that you are really aiming for it? If that is the case, maybe I should turn away from teh targets. But then I'd probably get DQ'ed.
  4. Welcome from another Mississippi shooter. Where are you located?
  5. You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaraunt, except for Alice! -Arlo Guthrie
  6. I feel your pain. as left knee has been scoped six (6) times,m three level meck fusion, and my bottom three lumbar discs have been removed ( a lot of hardware installed).
  7. I went in July 27, 1972. I still remember 80 guys doing push ups and bends and thrusts in the handball court in the August sun. and teh hump from Edson Range to San Onofre (all the Hollywood Marines will know), and who could forget Mount MF. And I never refreted a minute of it. Other than my daughters, it is the proudest thng in my life. Semper Fi, Ooooooooooorah!
  8. Are cowbou guns those ones with the circular looking thing, with the holes in it, that goes round and roundm when your thumb pulls on that lever looking thing on the back? Welcome to the best shooting forum around.
  9. I saw this happen at the SWAT Round Up in Orlando. the gun was a Glock 21, and when teh round detonated, the had his hand over the ejection port. It was an ugly wound.
  10. Go for it. My third or fourth USPSA match ever was the 2010 Louisiana Gator Classic. I didn't have enough matches to get classified, so I was listed as Unclassified. It was a blast. I did really bad because of brain farts on some of thestages, and I did pretty wll (for me) on some stagfes but they were all fun. Shortly after that I was classified as a D. I shot the 2011 Gator as a D, and when the results of the Gator were posted on teh 14th of the next moneth, low and behold, I was bumped to C. Although almost every shooter I met was way better than me, they were all great people. I met Cocobolo from ths site at the 2010 Gator, and for 2011 I was squadded with some guys from Mobile that I met at their range. Go for it, you will not regret it.
  11. Exactly three months from today! God I hope so, my home club has a new shooters clinic scheduled for March 18th. BURRRRRRRRRRR. I can see a start position now: Standing directly behind fire barrel. Hands in coat pockets, or extended towards fire -- shooter's choice. Handgun holstered and unloaded. Back on topic. Although the interview was long, I think that some things can be gleaned from the recent Dave Thomas interview: http://www.powerfactorshow.com/2011/12/19/episode-53-interview-with-dave-thomas-uspsa/ It sounds like the division choices made were the right ones, and as discussed above, and Steel Challenge is the appropriate gateway it USPSA. It was about 65 today, and we had the air conditioner on. would have been great except for the rain.
  12. Congratulations! Another shooter in the Magnolia State.
  13. I was not so lucky. Around 9 or 10 years old, wearing a pair of cut off jeans as a bathing suit. Zipped up in the bathroom a bit too hastily and Oooooh oh… Ah yes; Quite a bonding moment for a young boy and his father. His father, a scissors and a pair of cutting pliers. You won't see any Norman Rockwell painting about that one. That bought memories, and tears to my eyes, as well as making a wincing remmberance. In my case it was Easter morning, and by brand new, never worn slacks, bought just for that day, ended up in the trash. I ended up wearingsome old Jethro Bodine looking "high-waters" to Mass and to my grandmother's. Oh, the pain!
  14. Quit a few of the modern AR's are bored with a hybrid, or Wylde chamber, and can fire both. i have a Bushmaster XM-15Ew that is marked .223/5.56 on the reciver. But my Bushmaster Predator is marked .223, and the firing pin will puncture the primer on .223 rounds. My understanding of the pressure difference is that it is caused by the thicker web around the extractor groove and the slightly thicker brass (for firing in full auto weapons) which results in higher pressure because of the reduced volume in the case. that may be an over-simplification of the issue, but several very experienced reloaders of .223 have explained this to me. They also explained it is fine to reload 5.56 for .223 with a slgiht reduction in the powder load.
  15. I have a Kimber with an A5 without the adjustable cheek piece. It is great off teh bench, and OK in the prone but I have had some issues with it in improvised shooting positions. I am geetting a little long in the tooth and no longer do the "sniper" thing, but I still like to shoot with the younger guys. I loved your post about rifle accuracy. It is so on the button. As my uncle used to say, "Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then."
  16. What it seems like everyone on this forumis forgetting is that just because you prefer one style over another does not mean the builder is crap. this whole show was designed to build on the conflict and draw watchers. How many of us on this forum could afford the bikes by any one of the three. It's like saying what is better, a new Rousch Mustang or a '69 Boss 302? It depends on the customer's preference. How does it make my design better if I denigrate another designer's bike? It doesn't, but it magnifies the drama. As for the whole "Biker" attitude and lifestyle, there are way more middle class guys riding so-called "yuppie softtails" ( term used by Indian larry on a Biker Build Off) that there are hard-tail outlaw bikers. and just because any of the guys can build a great loooking and/or great riding bike does not mean they are a great person. All three of these guys have their faults, as do we all. Anytime you have people vote for anything it becomes a popularity contest, from bike building to politics. I liked Jessie before he went Hollywood. I like Paul Sr. a lot more in the early years as I did Junior. but, I only know what I see of them on Television and have no idea of what each is like, and what each's talents really are. Judging any person's talents and character based upon what TV producers allow you to see is fool hardy. Teir main goal is to attract viewers. Just like Top shots. I wouldlike this show a whole lot better if it was a pure shooting competitionthat tested the abilites of great shooters in different disciplines. But, if that were so, only shooters would be attracted to the show. A large percentage of the viewers were non shooters that got attracted by the drama. and in the long run maybe that is not a bad thing. So what I guess what I mean is different strokes for different folks (with apologies to Sylvester Stewart, commonly known as Sly Stone).
  17. It fails the chamber gauge test? Does that not answer your question?
  18. A rope towed car hood, going down a pipe line that is terraced about every 20'. It was fun for about 1 1/2 terrace. Then it just hurt.
  19. I heard this theory once that we all have three brains; the left brain, the right brain and teh brain when both work together. That we are one person with one appearance when dominated by left brain, another person that is opposite when dominated by right brain, and an amalgam when niether brain is dominant. Then again, maybe it was 4 o'clock in the morning after half a bottle of single malt.
  20. Lagenator, I have "Sympathy" for you, you devil. Welcom to the Beggar's Banquet.
  21. Ron, it didn't die, it just hit too close to home! That's why e-mail;ed you about axquiring my first open gun, can't see the front sight.
