  1. I used the 60-90 grit Silicon Carbide from RockShed So far, it works super well! Way more grit and texture than the 3M Shurtape Tread tape. The grit is very agressive, but my hand was fine shooting all day. No blisters or rub marks. My forearm is a different story. The grips scracthed my arm up pretty good over the course of the day. Need to put something on them like a beer koozie between stages. I've tried one out already and it stays on pretty well, comes off easy enough, and saves my forearm from getting all scratched up. I don't have a soldering iron or any way to stipple, plus no idea how to do it. I thought about doing the same technique to the backstrap, but at this point, I don't think i will need to. The grips are working so well the back strap doesn't really matter.
  2. So I've been using the 3M Shur-Tape from Lowes on my CZ SP01 with success for a while, however, with my sweaty hands, the tape doesn't stay on long before I have to redo it. I started looking for a more permanent solution. So after consulting the Benoverse, i found a few ideas and basically borrowed from them all. Found a used pair of plastic CZ75 grips on the CZ Forum - $20 Mixed up some J-B Kwik Weld from Lowes - $6 Poured on Silicon Carbide from www.rockshed.com - $3.25 plus shipping End result = What I think are some pretty darn good grips! The grit is aggressive enough to not slip, but not enough to chew my hands up. How long with they last? Well, that is the question! I haven't had a chance to shoot with them yet, but I'm pretty excited and optimistic about how they feel with the little dry fire I have done. Also, for the rules Guru's out there, I'm shooting production, and want to continue to shoot Production, so after reading rule 21.4, I believe I am still Production legal. "For semi-automatic Production guns, grip tape, grip sleeves, checkering, stippling or other texture may only be applied in the areas shown in appendix E4. Glue and grit is considered the same as stippling." Further note, according to E4, I am well within the dotted lines. Thanks to those that have come before me that helped, even though you will never know it! Note: The grit texture you see on the front strap is still Shur-Tape. Still can't bring myself to spreading J-B Weld on the front strap! Will wait and see what happens with the grips after a few uses. Before : After: After:
  3. 27.766091,-81.431603 I doubled checked it with Google Maps, and Microsoft Streets and Trips. Those coordinates will put your on top of the range.
  4. I put all VQ parts in my Ruger MKIII 22/45. Runs on Federal and Winchester bulk packs. No issues at all.
  5. If you go to the self squadding on uspsa site, you can see the schedule. Its all day friday or either sat morn/sun pm or sat pm/sun am. FWIW, I just finished a two day class with manny today in frostproof and we asked about the stages for the open. He was very tight lipped about the details as usual, but based on the mischievous grin he had, i'm already worried! BTW, the class was awesome!. If you ever get the chance I highly recommend it. Manny is a great teacher and an awesome individual.
  6. And why would you be doing this? As per C2.47.c, the chrono officer should check for compliance with division requirements. The former to see if the gun complies with D4 21.6 (e.g. no aftermarket triggers), and the latter to see if the gun complies with D4 21.1 (all external and internal safeties must remain functional). Maybe I have a different rulebook, but I just can't find that. C2.47.a (P. 69 of the 2008 rulebook) states "Proper function of the handgun's primary safety mechanism." D4.22 (P. 75 of 2008 rulebook) prohibits "Disabling of any external saftey or externally operated safety." I can't find the rule you referenced where it says "internal safeties must remain functional." Can you give me the page number please? 2008 Rulebook with the 2010 revisions, on page 80 Appx D4, #22 is as follows: Please note that the absence of an item in the list of prohibited modifications MAY NOT be construed to mean a modification is allowed. A modification is only allowed in Production Division if there is a rules clause or interpretation which specifically declares that it is allowed in the Division. Removing or disabling firing-pin blocks or any other factory safety mechanism in Production division is specifically prohibited. I added the bold to point out the relevant part.
  7. Exactly as Skydiver says. As a Chrono officer, all you have to do is lock back the slide, turn the gun over, and you will see clear as day if the shooter has removed the FPB. Since Chrono is also a safety check, that is the time to do it, and takes a grand total of about 5 seconds to do it.
  8. Ah...but with 60% more members than USPSA has...think of the potential members. (J/K...tongue in cheek) Sorry for the thread drift, and I'm not making fun of either of your positions, but after seeing this response...I just had to throw this link out there....( the beers I drank tonight were also the contributing factor )
  9. Comp hammer? Be extra weary of the motion that was pasted just after the trigger pull motion. (The more I think about that one , the more I think it hurts USPSA and it's members.) Motion: BOD will continue to clarify Production rules to support the purpose of the division Moved: A4 Seconded A1 Passed That one leaves the back door open. ?? Funny you should say that Flex, while I was typing that...the thought crossed my mind. Luckily that part is still legal per the current rules. I certainly don't want to run afoul of any other rules in the "Beginners" Division....I'm sorry, I meant "Carry Division"....oh shoot, what's it called again? Oh yeah...Production.
  10. (emphasis mine) CZ shooters: I haven't handled a CZ in a while - am I reading this correctly? Is this correct? DA trigger pull under 3# ? What about other platforms' DA pull? How low do they go? Thanks, ac Earlier in his post Gerard says his SP01 is 7#/3#, so I'm guessing the part you quoted was a typo. I have an SP01, Comp hammer and trigger done by Angus, measures out around 6.5#/3#. I shoot Production almost exclusively. And yes, I think the rule is bogus and how it was voted on/approved is even more bogus. And my gun would be legal no matter how you slice it. Still just a dumb rule.
  11. I had a similar issue recently. Have you taken the primer assembly apart lately and cleaned underneath the primer bar? When I did, I found a lot of buildup that was causing the primer bar to move erratically, sometimes causing the primer to jump out. Ironically I had cleaned it not too long ago. I over oiled the ram and the oil caused buildup under the primer bar to accumulate a lot quicker than normal.
  12. I'm sorry for the slight thread drift, but this one has been eating at me for some time. What does this expression mean? "in the white" I've looked around for some kind of explanation, and have had no luck.
  13. What about bringing back the Top 20 by Division and Class? I don't know who Rob is otherwise I'd send the suggestion to him myself. Oh yeah...and the new feature is cool. Thanks Rob!

    My Favorite Animal

First off, great Joke! Second, Saskatoon is here in Greenville, SC. It's very good. I had the Kangaroo Steak, it was delicious. And yes, it was next to the mashed potatoes!

    Drive Thru

Leary probably did a bit on that..but I was referring to the scene in Lethal Weapon 2 when Joe Pesci as "Leo Getz" went on his rant about the drive through.

    Drive Thru

Joe Pesci was right...."They F--k you at the drive thru" I hate it when I get to work after going to Dunkin Donuts for my morning coffee, only to find out they put sugar in it. What part of Large Coffee Cream only confused you?
  17. Maybe Production10 and Production15 instead? Nice...I like the way you think. Except, if you're going to open up the mag limits, just make it: "Production 10" and "Production". In "Production" you can load whatever your mags can hold. The gun still has to fit in the box, so you won't get the crazy 33 round after market mags, but if your gun can hold 15, load 15, if it holds 18...load 18!
  18. Split Limited into Limited Major and Limited Minor. No need for rule changes, Limited Major and Limited Minor rules would be carbon copy of the existing Limited rules, just with a PF stipulation. Leave Production at 10 round max capacity. The new Limited Minor would allow those that want to load up their Production gun mags ( probably a 9mm ) and have a division to play in...competitively. States that have 10 round restrictions? You still have Production and L-10 to play in.
  19. For the record, I run them: inner belt overlap in front, outer belt overlap in back. I shoot production. Either way, I highly recommend one of these: Belt Keeper MUCH easier to use than the velcro strip that comes with the belt. Plus, it stays on the belt all the time, so no need to worry about losing it.

    Shadow parts

Just make sure you dont make the mistake of ordering a bunch of parts, then realizing two weeks later you need some more. You will get hammered on shipping costs. Yes...speaking from experience.
  21. Let's see a photo of the whole gun and of the rear sight install..that looks pretty cool I've had the pleasure of dry firing this gun....it is sweeeet. Scott did a great job on it.
  22. I've been using a mini LED flashlight that I found at a gun show last year, it fit perfectly in the tool head hole on my 550. It works great. However, I've noticed how quickly I'm going through batteries. So when I saw this thread, I jumped at the link and bought one. Just installed it over the weekend, two loading sessions so far, and it is well worth the money. Not as perfect as the light shining down from the tool head, but absolutely gets the job done.
  23. I have a checklist I go through. I made it for major matches so I wouldn't forget anything, but now I use it for the local ones too, just to make sure: Cleats inner belt holster belt Hat Shooting glasses Ear plugs Ear Muffs wrist band Gun magazines bullets Mag brush towels pro grip tissues rewetting drops video camera chair sunblock water power bars bug spray extra parts kit extra shirt silicon rag
  24. I hate that too. Two nights ago, after a detailed strip, the right side safety detent spring on my CZ SP01 shot off the gun and landed about 8 feet away. I heard it land, but finding it is going to be next to impossible. Thankfully I had a spare.
