  1. Yup, an RO is a great gun, and all you need to be competitive. Good value. I'd stick a S. Perman wide magwell grip on it, or some grip tape and a magwell call it a day. If you are going to pay $125 for checkering (plus shipping both ways, and a wait?) then a PM9 is just nicer, out of the box - and for me, fit my hand and shot smoother. Just feel. Plus I actually use the front serrations, how much does Clark charge for that? Last note - resell. Always people looking for a PM9, and willing to pay. Range Officers take pretty big hit in resale value from what I've seen (and experienced) on the classifieds. But if controlling costs/going budget, or you find a good package deal on a used one, the RO is a great option.

    GM/M

I have done all of those things, peaking at almost 94% in Limited back about 10 or 12 years ago. But once I moved past A, I was never competitive as an M, and If I had laid down one more smokin' stand and shoot classifier, would have sucked balls as a GM at actual matches. In hindsight I wish I has not tried so hard to "grandbag"- high B, or A would have done me just fine back then, and now I bet I would have a hard time being a decent to good B at majors. Getting old an blind (and fat) sucks.
  3. +1 Dawson .205 / .090 wide works great. Stock is .215 / .090.
  4. Yup. Been there. Especially "memory stages". Or ones with multiple engagement choices. Usually its because I didn't groove in my plan and walkthrough well enough - or - I am rushing trying to push my sense of speed and movement instead of engaging the targets one at a time, one shot at at time, instead of worrying about getting to the next position as fast as possible.

    Yes, they do break

That's a different model slide stop. P series?
  6. But if you open up a 9mm slide on the breacface to .40 dimensions to fit a .40 barrel, aren’t you know fitting a .40 to a .40? ? ( I had a 1911 once that started life as a 9mm, previous owner had breacface opened to .40, and them when I bought it it had just been opened up to .45. Bailey did all the work btw.) But typically .40 barrels won’t fit in a 9mm slide without this breachface work.
  7. PM9 is such a better put together machine. Worth $500 more? Only if you enjoy quality. A Range Officer will work just fine too.... its not as ….. refined.
  8. Or buy a X-VTAC frame for $50 and use a Dremel cut off wheel.... like I did.
  9. Used to be old school gunsmiths would weld 'er up. Now, slides are cheap, its the fitting that's expensive. But you will need a new one soon. Might want to take really good look at your barrel as well just to be sure...
  10. I was once told only take advice from a GM. He wasn't, so I disregarded it.
  11. Doesn't need a trigger - mentally controlled firing mechanism.
  12. Is your colored in area on the front of the mag actually making contact with the pad? Or is it the rails of the mag not sliding far enough forward in their slots? Have you given iit a good whack to fully seat it? Looking at your pic I don't think you'll get enough movement by just sanding the plating off. May be you could squeeze the tube front to back in a vise (lightly)?
  13. My guns are named "Visa" and "Mastercard". ?
  14. Levers are readily available Brownells, Top Gun, Sig Store, Ebay….

Trigger control. Dry fire it a bunch. Muzzle dip before it breaks is all you... just gotta get used to it. FWIW I have the opposite problem I usually see this magnified on my Glocks, my X-Five is easier - but it does have the full GG trigger it it which helps.
  16. I didn't make it up. Some moly manufacturers like Master Blaster Bullets, etc used to publish this and recommend it. It works. It breaks down the moly in the grooves into a dark goo that can be wiped out with patches. Just running a wire brush or patches through moly usually just polishes the moly, rather than fully removing it. If you use this on a moly barrel, or one with bluing, it can take the finish off. Use at your own risk, and don't leave the barrel in to long.

Well.... the aluminum one is lighter. The stainless steel one is steel. ?
  18. Or you can just shoot in any match you want that will have you and have fun. And you'd be surprised how little (if any) you give up vs. a bolt gun, if your rifle is built right.
  19. Seems like a factory offered new model with its own name, and made from several different guns. I'm sure they will make 2000+ so will be approved quickly. "Ernest Langdon, owner of Langdon Tactical and overall Beretta guru, has teamed up with Beretta USA to create the new Beretta 92 Elite LTT pistol. Billed as the “ultimate 92 package,” the 92 Elite LTT features a Vertec/M9A3 slide with front cocking serrations; dovetail fiber optic front and square notch rear sight; stainless 4.7-inch barrel with a target crown; steel guide rod and a beveled rear slide. Meanwhile, the M9A1 frame sports a checkered front and back strap; beveled mag well with no lanyard loop; exclusive radiused trigger guard and rear slide rail; VZ/LTT G10 grips; stainless steel trigger; and hex head grip screws. In addition, it features an oversized mag release button, a D model hammer spring and a skeletonized hammer. “Beretta’s commitment to listening and building guns customers request is something shooters have hoped for from all manufacturers,” Ernest Langdon said. “I think this is the most shootable platform to date. We took the favored M9A1 frame, the Vertec slide, adding front cocking serrations, and an exclusive radiused trigger guard to create the flattest and softest shooting full-size 92 package.”
  20. Try pushing down on the sight to take tension off the screw, then turn with GOOD fitting screwdriver? Sometimes they are just a little tight.
  21. I am a stickler for the rules too. As they are written. Not imagined or interpreted to be. I'll shut up now ?
  22. This is why I dislike Production. We clean up the rules with new less ambiguous language, and allow 4 ounces over stock, but an NROI ruling made 3 years before the changes to the 5/15/18 rulebook is now going to override the rulebook? ? Guess someone needs to write the NROI and challenge each "ruling" that is out of step with the new rules. Please note that this ruling you quote is from the old rulebook to enforce the "significant weight" portion of the quoted rule - which is now conspicuously absent from the current rulebook (see my earlier post above.) I believe that makes this Ruling invalid now. I guess I could be wrong.... you just never know what you'll get from the NROI sometimes. Effective: Sep 17, 2015 Rule: Appendix D4 #22. Applies to: Pistol Ruling Authority: John Amidon/Troy McManus Status: Released Question: Can I now insert the plastic plug in my Glock and will it be legal for Production division? Ruling: The plastic plug that fits flush (extends no more than 0.10") with the heel of the grip is allowed. Plugs that extend below the heel like the Scherer polymer slug plug or other similar models are not allowed. Metal, brass or the Seattle Slug plugs are not allowed either. \\\\r\\\\nExternal plugs which alter the grip profile or extend past the bottom of the grip are PROHIBITED. Plugs which add significant weight to the gun are PROHIBITED.\\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\nSpecial Notes/Clarifications:\\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\nPer existing NROI ruling, a plastic plug which fits flush (+/- 0.1”) with heel of the grip IS allowed.\\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\nFor purposes of this interpretation, a plug weighing more than 0.5 ounce is considered “adding significant weight”. Applies to any Production Division firearm.
  23. Please point out and quote the rule stating a plug has to be plastic and under /5 ounces. We are talking USPSA Production right? How is the "ruling is clear" compared to this context? The SeattleSlug in stock form is illegal due its shape becoming a magwell below the grip (mini magwell chute). By grinding a piece of brass or any material to the same external shape of a plastic snap in flush plug, it is in effect a new conforming product. Not a Seattle Slug anymore, which was just the raw material. FWIW the Thug Plug could be argued legal... its basically the same idea. Not sure the profile is flush fitting to grip enough for me, that's why i ground down a Seatle Slug to make it 100% flush. Not trying to break rules, I'm trying to follow them. And in addition, anything under the allowed +4 ounce weight limit for the gun is legal in production, assuming its legal by all the other points. To be clear I only did this AFTER the May 15 change that allows up to 4 ounces over stock. The rule doesn't say where you can't put the weight. No where in the rule about Seattle Slugs or grip plugs do they say they have to made of plastic, or how much they can weigh. Only the shape. See below from the May 15 2018 update: 18 Maximum weight - Yes. 4 ounces with empty magazine inserted over OFM weight listed on approved pistol list 22.3 External Plugs (such as SeattleSlug) - External plugs which alter the grip profile or extend past the bottom of the grip are PROHIBITED.
