  1. if you have a melonited barrel, it will laugh at a high speed steel reamer
  2. at my local range (Ruskin, Fla) we are limited to a max of less than 35yd... I sight my red dot PCC and limited pistols typically to shoot 1" high at 25yd.... and make sure I know the hold over at point blank range... at the other range I occasionally shoot we are often tasked with 90yd steel, and I use a 1.5x16 ACOG on another upper.. still zeroed 1" at 25yd...
  3. Patrick... mine came from Brownells... my OEM NFA pin broke at about 400 rounds...they replaced it with a black rounded one, but I had already replaced it with the Colt pin... ordered a second Colt for the other bolt.... the NFA replacement is in my range bag
  4. I'm over 7000 on a factory Colt pin (NFA modular bolt) with the strike end rounded so the hammer strikes as close to the center as possible with one carbine, and about 2000 on another (PSA bolt) set up the same way
  5. just throwing this out ... it would help if you could give the OAL dimensions for your 95 grain loadings you report... a friend chrono"d some 95 grain Precision Deltas today with HS-6.... there was a consistent 100fps increase when the OAL was reduced by .075"... similarly if you could comment when using any concave base projectiles like the Montana Gold 95s when comparing them to flat base bullets... regards
  6. 3.6 of WSF with 135 Bayou gave me 130pf out of my Briley barreled G34, and 145pf with my 16" PCC...I have not chronoed since changing the OAL from 1.140" to 1.120" however ... good luck
  7. I shot a Fla State or Area 6 match over there many years ago... I was a member of the Tampa Bay Pistol Club (Tampa Bay Combat Pistol League), and we were outlaw, and didn't join USPSA for a year or two... had friends with double or triple digit membership numbers
  8. Eric... both of my barrels are inexpensive, one an early PSA with a short throat that I've reamed, the other an unknown manufacturer from MAS Defense, both 1/10...currently I'm having a chrono problem... out of the PSA barrel the Precision Delta 95s are going 1440, and only 1265 out of the other.... the slower gun as a hydraulic buffer, so need to switch uppers rather than individual carbines next time to see if that might be the problem... sorry have not tried the Zero 147s... I just stick a box of factory 147s in the bag, and load the first 15 or so for the long range steel for the one match
  9. Eric...I've always perceived better accuracy with longer bearing surface bullets, going back to my metallic silhouette days and cast bullets... my AR9 shoots Federal 147s under 4" at 100yd, and around 2" at 50yd... my hand load Bayou 135s with WSF about 3" at 50yd for 5 shot groups... caveat.. I do my testing with a 1.5x16 ACOG, RRA NM trigger off a good rest... possibly better accuracy with a higher power scope... I currently have two carbines, one with a SPARC II dot, the other the 1.5x16 ACOG...I use the scoped carbine for an outlaw 2 gun match that typically has steel at 90yd...and the dot for a regular USPSA match with max 30yd shots... I'm currently playing with Precision Delta 95 grain WSF loads for that match.... accuracy at 30 yd is more than acceptable.... the 95 Bayou coated did not fly straight for me... good luck with your search... I like your USPSA number Les A2365/L747
  10. both of my 16" PCC barrels are inexpensive... one a short leade PSA and the other an unknown manufacture from MAS Defense... both 1/10 and nitrided... both will shoot 4" or better (5 shot) at 100yd with 1.5 x 16 TA44 ACOG with Federal 147... RRA NM trigger... off a hard rest
  11. have seen a couple of case separations with aluminum in blow back AR9s
  12. http://orions-hammer.com/blowback/ the spreadsheet allows you to enter your data...but when I did the trials, the spreadsheet was on the side of safety... just now plugging in my 95 grain data, though, is a lot closer than what I found for the 135 data I had originally used when playing with different buffer weights a year ago... YMMV
  13. ran some Precision Delta 95s with 5.2 WSF today... about 1450fps with my PSA 16" with short throat
  14. just my opinion, but I doubt that any chartered USPSA club would knowingly allow you to violate the USPSA rules... I don't have any idea about IDPA.... that being said, there are several outlaw clubs in my area that do not restrict the use of AR pistols with braces or blades...the cost of a 9mm barrel is relatively inexpensive... build a 16" carbine, work out your load and recoil system, and start the Form 1 process... when the stamp comes in, add the shorter barrel... Les A2365/L747
  15. I guess I'm the only one besides Flatland that has seen a decrease in dot movement with a 3 port Miculek style comp from McDonald Precision (their EQ model) which is under $40... regards
  16. I try to activate the safety every time I move...over the years, I've used a variety of vendors/manufacturers ...I'm not that particular my first introduction to "tactical" multigun was the North Carolina Tactical match I shot in 1995...I didn't want to screw up, so made it a habit to activate the safety
  17. just wondering if anyone has done a side by side comparison of the two systems .... your perception as to recoil and scope movement... thanks
  18. I'll repeat a comment I've made on other firing pin threads... if you round the strike end of the pin (like the AR 5.56 pins) the hammer will strike closer to the center line....which I think would help to help prevent pin breakage
  19. I currently use 3.6grains Win Super Field and 135 Bayou polymer coated LRN.... out of my G34 produces a 132pf, and 145pf out of my 16" PCC... I shoot a monthly outlaw match with 12" targets at about 90yds typically at one stage... I perceive better accuracy with the longer bearing surface of heavier bullets L9x25 has me trying some 95 grain FMJ with WSF, just in case edit... got a chance to test the 95s for accuracy... indoor range off a bag at 90yd with 1.5 ACOG 5 shot into about 4"... at 25yd braced 5 into approx 1"
  20. off topic... I had an opportunity to shoot some of L9x25's 95 grainers with WSF after the match Sunday... compared to my 135 Bayou with WSF they produced 1/2 my perceived scope movement at 25yd... the scope was a 1.5x16 ACOG with very precise amber triangle
  21. had the same issue when Roy T brought his Lab Radar to chrono my PCC ... the muzzle needed to almost be behind the unit... my supposition was that the side blast of the Miculek style comp was being picked up
  22. you might round the strike end as well to allow the hammer to strike as close to the center line of the pin as possible
  23. are you using a 32 rounder or a G17/34 factory mag? do you have tension on the extractor?.... the single wire extractor spring may have moved or broken
  24. if you like Win Super Field... 3.6 with Bayou polymer coated 135's... tad over 130 with the G34 (Briley barrel) and 145 with the 16" PCC
  25. this is a repeat of an earlier post...have any of you rounded the strike end of a real Colt pin and experienced problems?... since the simple rounding I have around 7000 rounds without a problem... rounding will bring the hammer strike closer to the center line of the firing pin
