  1. I'm an old guy at 73 but once upon a time had an A2365 USPSA number, and don't expect to win a Cadillac with low score... I enjoy building my own competition guns rather than buying one... when I decided to try SC, I knew I wanted to go with the 10/22 platform, as I had some experience with a Sportsman's Team Challenge rifle in the mid 90s... I wanted it to handle as similar as my other competition rifles as possible, both on AR platforms, but wanted the reliable rotary Ruger magazine of the 10/22...I wanted an integral scope mount rather than one bolted on, so went with a Brownells BRN22 receiver and barrel... a Ruger bolt and charging handle, and a BX trigger group that surprised me with the pull... to facilitate the AR buffer tube and grip installation, I used a PMACA lightweight chassis, with a cantilevered 1913 rail section to mount an angled fore grip... Hogue grip, and a RRA SOCOM style slanted cheek rest stock... topped with a HoloSun 510 "jumbo tron" Les L747
  2. had a fluke extraction problem shooting some 25 year old ammo, but anyway, wanted to add a little more hook to the extractor on my 22/45... I've had pretty good success in the past... looked at the Tandemkross video on how to install their extractor, but did not have a hardened punch of small enough diameter to slip in next to the extractor and push the plunger down from the bolt face... then came up with the idea to take a sewing needle, grind off the point with my trusty Dremel, and chuck it in the jaws of a small set of vise grips near mid point to reduce flex on the small diameter pin... worked like a charm to depress the plunger... just wanted to pass this tip on regards Les
  3. Holosun 510 with the large window on my 10/22 BRN22 in PMACA chassis, and MKIV lite (looks big on the pistol, but easy to track the dot)... the solar cell on the Holosun automatically increases the dot brightness with increase in ambient light... which I really like shooting in bright Florida sunlight Les L747
  4. theautobahn... I really like the Holosun large window 510 sights... in Florida the ambient light can play hell on dot intensity from stage to stage depending on the amount of shade, and time of day... the solar cell provides a continuously bright dot... I have one on both my 10/22 and Mk IV lite... it looks a little funny on the Ruger, but the large window makes tracking the dot a lot easier for me... this dot sighted pistol is a new game as I've shot iron sight pistols for 30 or so years... regards my competition long rifles are all AR platform based... when I decided to build another 10/22 I went with a Brownells BRN22 with integral rail and barrel, Ruger bolt/charging handle, and BX trigger group and used a PMACA chassis... angle fore grip, Hogue AR grip and SOPMOD style rear stock
  5. I just put together a RFPO for SC... I shot a SW M41 for a couple of matches, and found I have a tendency to lay my thumb against the bottom section slide with a thumb forward hold... plus, I hadn't bought myself a birthday present yet, so picked up a Ruger 22/45 lite from PSA (on the site for about a day)... originally a Holosun 507c then tried the HS 510 from my 10/22... ended up with a big lens 510 on the 22/45 as I find the dot is easier to track... a friend gave me a TK brake.... just need to get some trigger time... CCI Blazer for matches
  6. after an original 400 round failure with an OEM pin, I rounded the strike end of a Colt pin and have about 7000 on it (multiple guns, now a RDB)... my perception to the peening of the OEM pin's edge was that the hammer did not strike it near the center line, and the rounded pin helped alleviate that problem
  7. my CMMG RDB system started causing problems at about the 1000 round mark... many claim that the ejector spring designed for the SW 40cal/10mm rifle is the solution... I had a different problem... the polymer insert inside the extractor spring had hardened to the point it would not compress... a posting by Memphis Mechanic led me to replace the extractor spring with a heavy duty one from Bravo Company (without the insert or O ring)... unfortunately the Wuhan virus has interrupted my PCC shooting for many months and was able to put only 300 or so rounds on it
  8. re: breaking more than 5.56 pin... my perception was the reason I suggest rounding the strike end of the pin... OEM pin and Colt OEM is squared off, and I noticed that the edge of my factory OEM was slightly peened when it broke, as the hammer struck it off center... the 5.56 pin is rounded, so why not do the same for the 9mm pin with the same hammer strike?
  9. just put a 510c (red dot)on my Steel Challenge 10/22, and will probably stick one on the AR9 when I start shooting it again... been damn hot in Florida..I'm impressed with the variable brightness afforded by the solar cell in changing light conditions...
  10. I broke a blue steel OEM pin at about 400 rounds... replaced it with a Colt pin, and rounded the strike end so the hammer will hit closer to the center line of the pin... first in a blow back and now RDB carbine... estimate 7000 rounds
  11. I started SC with a 10.5 CMMG barrel and collar bolt, RRA NM trigger and Black Dog stainless feed lip magazines... CCI Blazer and SOPMOD style cheek rest stock and Hogue grip.... on my registered SBR AR receiver.... I currently use a BRN22 integral rail receiver and barrel in a PMACA light weight chassis, SOPMOD cheek rest Hogue grip, angled fore grip, BX trigger and Ruger bolt and charge handle... the Venom will be replaced when the Holosun 510 c arrives... it is light weight in the nose and swings better for me
  12. ammo selection... I've gotten good reliability out of CCI Blazer... bought some at bulk prices before Wuhan Flu at less than 4 cents... individually packaged... works well in my BRN22 PMACA chassis 10/22, M41 and G44 a local club is running a Rimfire Challenge where you shoot 3 SC style stages, first with pistol, then rifle...getting a good turn out
  13. Rick... thanks to a recommendation by Memphis Mechanic, the BCM extractor spring worked for me (I don't think CMMG was offering the 40SW spring as a fix, or at least I hadn't heard of it).. in my particular case, the OEM helper plug in the spring had hardened at around 1500 rounds... I've shot only a couple of matches before the Wuhan Flu cut back my participation... I use spring only, no polymer helper plug or O ring... so far the factory ejector spring is working ok... as you commented, each critter is a little different...I use 40 round ETS mags, 135 Bayou and WSF,and get a scrape on the next to present cartridge as the bolt cycles... regards
  14. just a comment...you might try rounding the strike end of the pin if it comes flat... this will allow the hammer to strike it closer to the center line of the pin... my OEM Colt pin modified like this has over 7000 rounds on it (blow back and rdb)
  15. not super light pull but I've had good luck with Rock River Arms NM hook/release triggers for at least 25years...in my 5.56 and AR9 game guns...
  16. you might look at something like a Recover Tactical brace ... it checks the boxes for me.. dependable firearm platform, lite weight, capable of being fired with brace folded.. 2" at 50m
  17. this pic of the 5.56 guns... the streamlined gas block is roll pinned
  18. I offer a couple of examples I put together for a truck gun, but would work for inside... I stayed with a 10.5 for the 5.56 to mitigate some of the blast.. the AR9 was built on my back up PSA (NFA billet) receiver ... I wanted a pinned front sight block if I ever needed an AR for defense...I don't use blades or braces... if interested just ask about specifics regards Les pic of the AR9
  19. if you have a bunch of AR parts lying around... my RFRO started as a Brownells BRN22 receiver with integral sight base and barrel, in a PMACA lightweight chassis... Ruger bolt and trigger group... Hogue grip and SOPMOD style slanted stock... the angled fore grip off a cantilevered 1913 rail attached to the front end... I used some coke can shims to tighten everything down...puts the weight to the rear and swings well feels much more solid than a friends 15-22
  20. I prefer to use ETS 40s rather than factory Glock 32s and a TF extension... I've been playing the gun games a long time, and the junction between the extended mag base and mag tube, even if beveled, is a potential problem for an aw crap if the follower does not make the transition smoothly....
  21. I do not have a complete CMMG carbine, it is a NFA lower and upper with CMMG RDB bolt and barrel.. the scratches from my rifle are from the bottom teeth of the bolt as they cycle over the next to be chambered cartridge while cartridge is still in the magazine... I leave my brass on the ground as a courtesy to the squad to keep the match moving... I buy reclaimed brass from the range, so eventually I'll get some back... at this time, it is cosmetic only
  22. I've had very good luck with CCI Blazer 40grain....in my M41, G44, Advantage Arms conversion on my G17, and the BRN22 build that I use for Steel Challenge.... reasonable in price
  23. with a tip from Memphis Mechanic, I had a problem with the polymer helper plug in the OEM CMMG RDB extractor spring hardening...I used Memphis's suggestion and replaced the extractor spring with a heavy duty one from Bravo Company... no O ring or helper plug... 3 matches and about 100 trial shots it has been 100%... April match has been cancelled
  24. I'm not a go-fast PCC shooter, but I like factory ETS 40 rounders rather than extended Glock mags... one less thing to go wrong, and you can look and see if you forgot to put one of the shiny things in the back of the case
  25. I've been using Bayou poly coated 135's since building the first PCC... Win Super Field for a 141pf
