  1. impact... try rounding the strike end of the firing pin... I use Colt OEM pins... allows the hammer to strike close to the centerline of the firing pin... a couple of the guys I shoot with locally have commented they had problems when using .308 springs
  2. an original blue steel firing pin... the Colt with rounded strike end is over 7000rds extractor pivot pin (actually found the extractor) on AR style extractor bolt hold open on my Colt style SBR haven't broken, but have replaced 2 Glock 32, and 2 ETS 32 mag bodies... chewed up one ETS mag trial fitting the CMMG RDS bolt and barrel
  3. Ronnie passed away yesterday (9/9)... he was one of the pioneers in promoting the action shooting sports in Florida.... his wife, Wadette, ran the squad and scoring for many of the early Florida Invitational and Florida Open matches... RIP friend
  4. I repurposed a Miculek style comp from a 5.56 rifle when I switched to the 1/2-28 threading on the CMMG barrel... ran a 3/8" bit to open to .375" ....stuck it in a mill and opened up the "top" of the forward ports to same as the rear port... previously the rear wiper had been opened to the min diameter to thread the boss through with a 1/2-28 tap... clocked it directly to the ejection port side 90degrees from vertical (used a thin wave washer to give me easily adjustable trial positions)... with the radial delay and hydraulic buffer, the double tap shots spread to about 3" to the right at 25yd... will open ports at tad more Saturday
  5. Halo09... my initial trial fitting was with what I am currently using in my blow back PCC (which runs flawlessly)... ETS mags with a T/F extension and Glock with T/F extensions... I immediately noticed that the clearance slot to strip rounds on the rear needed to be opened marginally on several of the mags... then the problem with the rearward bolt movement hitting the nose of the follower without a round in place... the angle relief cut on the rear of the locking lug made a pretty good cutting tooth...I then milled 1/16" off the top of the mag catch and lowered it too much to strip a round... I happened to have a Magpul 17 rounder and just for grins stuck it in, and everything cleared (I don't normally use Magpul, but had purchased a couple before the last election)... ordered a couple of their 27 round mags, and a member here pointed me towards Cain Arms for an extension... David did not have an extension for the 27 round mag on his web page, but he had his engineer change the program to mate one with the 90 degree bottom instead of the angle on his 17 round design....... he is making a higher capacity unit, and I'm waiting for the result... in the meantime I modified the ETS followers to duplicate the look of the Magpul followers, as TRUBL commented, ground away most of the nose of the follower.... match Sunday, and will report... as you commented it is possible to over insert a mag with the bolt back, but we had the same problems with early 10 round .45 mags... simple enough to add an external stop... regards
  6. I'm running the radial delayed bolt and barrel on an NFA lower... some shooters are able to lower the magazine catch and work with unmodified Glock and ETS mags, I was not able to do so...go slow if you are lowering the shelf, .065" was too much for mine... I have relieved the rear bolt clearance slot of ETS mags and lowered the nose of the follower (as TRUBL commented) as well as lower the left ledge a bit, and am able to cycle dummy rounds through slowly without problems... the sharp point of the bolt is pretty aggressive on magazines when the bolt cycles rearward if there is not enough clearance....the Magpul magazines, though, work without any alteration in my PCC... unfortunately they offer only a 27 rounder as far a I can locate David Cain (Cain Arms) makes a 3D printed mag extension for the Magpul mags when Taran and T/F do not... he is currently making a deeper mag extension (kind of a prototype, as he said I was the first to request an 8 to 10 round increase), which most likely will use a Glock 32 round mag spring... would like to get the capacity into the mid 30s... I'm sometime promiscuous in my shooting on the move... David's magazine extensions appear to be very durable, and very reasonable in price... regards
  7. Dan... good luck...I hope you have a drop in installation, or be able to provide clearance with a simple change in the mag catch shelf height... I may have been able to do so, but .065" was too much for my installation, and I encountered multiple angle and interference problems I really wanted a simple fix...I'm happy with the Magpul at this point, and even if the Cain addition does not proved enough rounds, I can always section a couple of the Magpul bodies... after all I started with a 7 round .45 in 1982, and can always stick a reload in
  8. Roy... we have a new place to eat... the unit ran flawlessly with the Magpul 27 rounders today... I clocked the comp at a pretty severe angle... unfortunately my cataract does not allow me to use a dot sight... the ACOG is pretty sharp, so I'll use it
  9. received an e-mail reply from Robin Taylor (Taylor Freelance) ... said he may look into an extension for a Magpul.... MemphisMechanic.... what lower do you use?... my problem is most likely the angle of the mag well in the NFA lower as the Magpul follower does not sit a high as as the ETS or Glock Dan Serpina... thank you for the reply, that was an option I was considering
  10. Memphis Mechanic...I first lowered the catch engagement in an ETS mag for my trial fitting... the bolt hit the front of the mag lip on the ETS and rear of the OEM Glock mag which was clearanced... I milled the mag catch shelf on my NFA by .065" and the bolt would not strip a round, it contacted the top cartridge about 1/8" up the case.... I lowered the catch hole in a Colt style mag for the lower for my SBR with mag adapter for about .010" at a time and ran into the same problem on extracting the last round... what I am trying to accomplish is smooth hand cycling of dummy rounds...sharp point of the bolt catches the follower when the last round is slowly extracted... the Magpul mags cycle dummies fine..most likely I would not have a problem with the magazine working in a match... the bolt would clearance itself over time....thanks for the comments, I too, thought lowering the mag catch shelf would solve my problems... didn't think a 1/16" would make that much difference Cavy thank you for the heads up on the Cain arms edit... ordered on the the Cain Arms mag extensions thanks all... hope this works
  11. Barry, Scooter thank you for the gracious offers of help....I have inquiries into Taylor Freelance and Taran Tactical....I really don't think I'm the only one that has encountered this problem with magazine clearance when using 9mm lowers by other than CMMG....I've shot the Magpul 17 rounders without a problem, and just received the 27s today... so far they appear to be a simple solution to the interference problem...I will try to get to the range tomorrow and test the longer magazines the PMags have a "square" 90degree base plate similar to the Colt format magazines... a friend has a T/F for a Colt and I will check it out when I can, again, thank you for your offer of help, I'll keep your offer in mind... regards Les L747
  12. it looks like the bolt/magazine clearance problem I have with a CMMG radial bolt and barrel in my non factory lower has been solved by using Magpul 9mm Glock magazines... now problem is that they are 27 rounds, and would like to add an extension... have looked at T/F and TTI web sites and did not see a listing for extended magazine base plates specifically for the Magpul bodies... they are a different angle and my T/F do not fit... can anyone point me in the right direction?.... thank you Les L747
  13. please keep me informed with any modifications you make in the future... regards Les L747
  14. I did not notice any brass marks, and watching a friend shoot it, there was no indication with any ejection port striking... I have access to a milling machine if needed in the future
  15. early New Frontier Armory billet, without bolt hold open... at the worst, I'm out 4 Glock followers... thanks for the help...my preliminary trials were with a second lower, a PSA billet (made by NFA), and did not want to change anything that could not be replaced in a timely manner until I got it checked out in the primary rifle
  16. thank you .... it looked as though around .100" would do it... I get a couple of small scratches on brass....only shot a couple of hundred rounds through it, so far has run 100 percent... I use an ETS 31 rounder with a Taylor Freelance extension for competition
  17. NPDriver... thanks, I trimmed the followers in addition to checking for rear clearance, but if causes a problem will lower the shelf on the mag catch... I had problems with only the rear of the first 2 mags I stuck in the carbine, naturally....did you actually measure the amount you removed? and if so, how much?....
  18. I shot it with my 135 grain 146 power factor coated Bayou bullets, and with Howard's 100 grain plated...perception wise, I can hold A hits at 25yd double taps with very little effort.... watching Howard shoot, there was virtually no observed recoil... had a very consistent ejection pattern with the plunger ejector in the bolt....there is an option to add additional weight to the carrier and probably a little room for playing with the internal bolt spring
  19. Roy... I should have it pretty much together by then... I had the test bed on a straight H2 buffer and spring no muzzle device... stuck Howard's carbine hydraulic in and his comp that was 1/2 x 28 for a 9mm....will need to get the okey doke from Leo... see you the 24th
  20. just got back from a comparison of a CMMG radially delayed bolt and barrel combo (not a complete CMMG rifle) on a back up lower to my blow back 9mm carbine... the results are promising enough that I will switch the barrel and bolt to my current PCC... to utilize the hydraulic buffer, and will run a 3/8 drill through a Miculek comp from one of the 5.56 guns... only problem so far was the need to clearance the rear of the magazine to fit the slightly wider lower bottom lug on the carrier that strips the cartridges... a MagPul Glock style mag did not need clearance... a slight clearance cut on an ETS and Glock mag also received a slight trim on the height of the follower....still in the development stage.... regards
  21. standardized for my PCC and Briley barreled G34.... 135 Bayou coated and 3.6 WSF... 130 in the G34, and 146 in the PCC
  22. from back in the dark ages when I shot .45... Mercury Outboard Quicksilver 2-stroke Racing oil... it dissipates carbon... recommended by L9x25 which he used in his go-fast boat (80+mph)
  23. anecdotal... my P35 High Power did not shoot very accurately (two piece factory barrel) with factory loads....when I slugged the barrel, it slugged .356+... loaded with 135grain 38super .357 projectiles it would shoot 50yd Bianchi plates
  24. try rounding the strike end of a OEM Colt pin...allows hammer to strike closer to the center line of the pin
  25. I don't notice that much smoke with 135 Bayou coated and Win Super Field (WSF)
