  1. Flatland... my PSA 16" had a short leade area also... the nitrided finish is pretty tough, and had to use a lathe to get enough force to get the cutter to work well... I typically can use the "T" handle and cut most barrels by hand... I can now use 1.130 oal Bayou coated... the 147 Precision Delta fmj would work without throating...
  2. I shot a PCC only match immediately after the Optics Nationals on those stages, and Mike Foley and Troy McManus were present... in a Q&A session following the match, two recommendations from the Florida shooters were... start position in low ready and not port arms, and that if bagged firearms were required, that a table be provided (like a pre load shotgun table used in multi gun) to speed up the administration of the match... extremely time consuming to go to line with bagged PCC, un bag, shoot stage, show clear, re bag before calling line clear...it is much quicker to roll a cart to the line, shoot stage, show clear, flag, move cart to berm, and re place PCC in cart (muzzle pointed at and immediately near berm) most of the DIY multi gun carts used at the match had downward angled racks similar to mine, and did not receive any negative comments (I'd rather get shot in the foot, and not in the head).... for a club that does not shoot multi gun, the transition to a cart may take a little longer on the learning curve
  3. I don't really change powders much any more... have been satisfied with Win Super Field (WSF) for my 9mm G34, so when I started with the PCC reduced my pistol loading to just make minor with a little fudge factor... 3.6 and a 135 Bayou coated gives me around 146pf with the PCC and 130 pf with the G34...occasionally use a Precision Delta 147 fmj... runs well in the 16" and 10.5" SBR... can't remember the power factor... old age CRS
  4. I use found on range brass, and did not catch a piece of IMT 9mm brass (it has a distinctive thin case mouth area)... would suggest you be on the look out for it... complete case head separation... it did come out easily with a .308 chamber brush ]
  5. the parent pistol fits the rails, and provides the fire control group... you may need to change to a shorter thumb safety if you have an exceptionally designed one...friends have ones in .38super and 9x25 on 2011 lowers... don't think they needed to change the thumb safety
  6. depending on how much money is involved... a couple of friends went with Just Right Carbine in .45 that uses a G21 magazine... they had an issue with dry firing, but after that, I think they have the bugs worked out... if you want a DI you might check with Macon Armory... Rudy is very knowledgeable...I think he has a blow back option also
  7. reflection on speed... OK, I'm 69, and overweight....I ain't gonna win the Cadillac, but out of courtesy they still let me play...however, if you come from multi gun, and are used to time plus scoring with two hits neutralizing the target, to pistol scoring shooting a minor scoring caliber you really need to shoot a lot of "A" hits....fast helps
  8. New Frontier Armory billet Glock lower, NFA bolt, Aero Precision upper, charging handle, YHM fore end and barrel from MAS Defense...comp from McDonald Precision on the way...135 Bayou coated and 147 Precision Delta with 3.6 or better WSF....2500 rounds without a bobble....still undecided about optics... currently a Vortex SPARC II
  9. thanks for all the input... I think I'll go with the EQ brake from McDonald Precision Components...looks like what I want, and the right price point http://www.mcdonaldprecision.com/
  10. OK... before I get a 1/2x36 tap and make myself one, does anyone make a straight (non slanted) 3 side port 5/16 or 3/8 vertical slotted comp? basically a Miculek comp threaded and bored for 9mm.... I swear I saw one listed on PSA's ste, but can't find it now... I milled a GunTecUSA slanted port, but is leads a bit... I am about to just stick a 1/2x36 bird cage on it and be done with the lead buildup.... help an old man out... regards Les L747...
  11. thanks everyone... I just talked to Rudy at Macon Armory and ordered one of his bottom load 9mm adapters... pictures were on ARFCOM and I like the looks of it... really nice to talk to, he said he was so busy that he hadn't had time to post pics on his web site...the unit is held in place with a button head machine screw...$160 with shipping... will give a report... again, thanks for the replies.... I looked at the Hahn and RRA websites, and you would think that with the renewal of interest in 9mm PCC the communication would be better to customers...
  12. I have an NFA billet lower with a 16" upper for USPSA PCC, but enjoy shooting a run and gun local match with an SBR... bought a 9mm 10 1/2" upper from PSA, but have not decided on a mag block for my registered SBR to put it on... I would like a bottom load adapter so I can insert it without removing the bolt hold open, and currently looking at a Macon Armory unit... can anyone recommend an option before I purchase... the mag block is close to the tax stamp price for applying for a form 1 for my NFA lower, but I don't really want to wait the 4+months to legally play, so thought the mag block would be the interim solution... thanks
  13. Tim... if you are looking to buy a blow back (like the Colt) don't overlook something like the JP 9mm ....if you are on a budget, you can put one together for around $800 less sight...the blow back guns will recoil more than the short piston MPX....there are a lot of aftermarket parts for a basic AR platform however...you really need to shoot an MPX against a blow back for yourself... I shoot a Glock lower NFA, and find mag changes a lot easier than with a straight stick Colt style
  14. I've always had good results with the cooler burning Winchester ball process powders in lead pistol calibers... doesn't tend to burn the base of the bullet... when I switched to 9mm from .45 I switched to Win Super Field, and use a compromise loading for the PCC as well as the G34... 3.6 WSF and a 135 Bayou coated gives me 128pf for the G34 and 148pf for the PCC...I perceive the coated base of the Bayou gives slightly less leading in the comp than the 147 open base Precision Delta did...the "dirty" is really a grease like coating, and not any un burned propellant... YMMV
  15. CJ... I use a rifle length buffer and tube... if you want to play around with DIY weights in a rifle buffer filled with 7 1/2 shot... 6.0 1/2 brass plug....6.2 5/8 brass plug... 7.0 filled with poured lead...9.0 after trying the heavier buffers I switched back to the stock 5.2oz rifle buffer and tube
  16. not personally familiar with a short barrel, but since it is blow back, your power factor should be a place to start... for something in the 145pf range a 22oz bolt and buffer total, and a standard 5.56 spring should get you in the ball park
  17. I've had a couple of optics on my PCC in the last few months... I have a pretty bad astigmatism, and some don't provide a round dot for me..recently using a Trijicon TA44 1.5x16, but the slight magnification was a little slow transitioning between multiple poppers....going back to a Vortex SPARC II with a 2moa dot...the center dot in my Vortex Spitfire is a little smaller than I would prefer, and the concentric rings a little busy... I do like the ability to focus the Spitfire though, and the reticule is engraved on the prism, so you still have an aiming point if the battery dies... good luck
  18. you might look at MAS Defense as well for parts
  19. my thinking was that 3grains of Clays and a heavy buffer/spring combo might not have enough recoil force to move the bolt all the way to the ejector, or possibly not allow the ejector to hit the ejecting brass with enough force to successfully eject it...
  20. doe it do this with a hotter load?...how heavy of a buffer?.... my set up is almost identical to yours, and so far has worked flawlessly for over 2500 rounds.... a 145 power factor load with a NFA modular bolt and 5.2oz buffer
  21. 450AK... I just shot the Florida USPSA State match with Bayou coated 135s and 3.6 of WSF (146 pf)...around 300 rounds on 12 stages in one day...I did not observe any barrel fouling, and while the comp did have some build up, it for the most part was self cleaning when the lead got to a certain point...
  22. I'm not so worried about melting, but I did have a section shear off, and would prefer it not be a problem again... most ROs down here assist you with the flag, and carry it so it can be inserted at the finish of the course of fire..... we use 3 gun commands...show clear... bolt forward... pull trigger... lock open bolt...safety on... insert flag... muzzle up carry to cart... cart to side berm and carbine placed in holder... most ROs are comfortable with this format
  23. as commented, had a longer flag shear off in the chamber with the bolt lowered on it... through the mag well if at all possible for me
  24. I broke the OEM "blue steel" pin in my NFA bolt at about 400 rounds, but they replaced it with a stainless firing pin that has gone 2000 rounds so far... I am starting to get a slight mushrooming of the firing pin head... a Colt pin looks like an identical replacement
  25. I guess I should be more of a gamer after 35 years, but I load 32 in the big stick, but down load the reload G17 pistol mags to 15 (unless course of fire is unique)
