  1. Interesting... Can’t say I see the point of that kind of expense over an already $$$ upper & lower from QC10 or the like. Not if the only benefit is eliminating a few thousandths of play between upper and lower. Perhaps I’m missing something.
  2. Unless you shoot production. A lot of the guys competitive at the ational level reload in tight and down in front of the chest. Without a magwell, it’s a viable option for someone moving while they load. Watch videos of Hwansik Kim and Ben Stoeger on youtube for examples.
  3. I can do you one better than that: they’re legal in Cappy Optics AND in Production now. Production is now cool with any aftermarket safety or hammer or trigger your little heart desires to install.
  4. I believe you’ll hear from Troy that beveling the frame behind the mag release and stippling at thumb pad are both entirely okay.
  5. @Startingover whose lower (and are you going with a matched upper?) is that, and why are you waiting so long?
  6. @IHAVEGAS not even slightly surprised.
  7. Why isn’t .150 high enough? I ran a .140 on mine with the standard LPA, and it was zeroed a few clicks up from being fully bottomed out. That rear sight is fragile enough that I wanted the screw run in as far as I could get it, and the leaf lower and slightly less prone to getting snagged.
  8. Dawson didn’t make anything else when I built my gun.
  9. Have you shot your PCC at 3rd, 10/25/50 yd to see what your current holdovers are? If not, I’d start there. The answer to what zero works best for your style will likely become obvious.
  10. Always choose the most conservative stage plan that is easy to remember, even if it’s a couple of seconds longer. Down in C and D class at big matches you can mop up simply by not getting lost in a “showoff” stage plan the others will inevitably screw up trying. And just go have fun!
  11. I can’t even tell you how many recipes I’ve put together over the years with around .010” of overall length variation that were scary accurate. Find a bullet your gun really likes, the OAL range that makes it happiest, and a consistent powder for that bullet. Right now my ammo slops out of my 650 using a BBI 125, 3.7gr of Prima V, and my OALs vary between 1.007” and 1.119” That much variation drove me nuts when I first started loading in 2008, but I get it now: this ammo chronos with a standard deviation of 1.68 and it groups 1.75” - 2.25” at 25yds depending on what kind of day the operator is having. Those are the measurements that really matter. It’s more important to figure out if your gun shoots a specific bullet better around 1.110” or 1.125” or 1.150” than it will ever be to get the OALs all within +/- .001” in a handgun round.
  12. In 9mm “crimp” just enough to remove all of the outward flare. No more. Just straighten the walls.
  13. Pull a bullet... If you can feel the effects of the crimp in the side of the bullet, IMO that’s too much crimp for a 9mm round. If you’re worried about setback with short bullets, switch to a U die and enjoy the extra neck tension.
  14. Well the two guns are otherwise similar, makes sense that they are similarly fast: A load good for 132pf in a 4.25 M&P and 134 in a 5” Tanfoglio? Made 138 out of my Walther Q5 match. This crop of European guns all seem to have shorter chambers and faster barrels.
  15. Halfway between a well tuned DI 5.56 gun (or the MPX) and a blowback AR. That’s what it feels like to me; a mix of both. And also totally unique.
  16. Well, as practical shooters our goal is always to learn to hit the trigger harder and faster without moving the gun. Practicing the same old trigger control you can already pull off, won’t make you any better. Hint: Grip harder.
  17. Don’t do that. Crimp makes your velocity and accuracy problems worse. And it DOESNT help retain the bullet more securely in 9mm. Crimp bad. Crimp less. Try again.
  18. Extremely. Even practically point-blank, AR500 shouldn’t care about a 150ish PF 9mm load hitting it.
  19. Getting the weak hand off the gun and already presenting a fresh magazine to the magwell in around .5 Watch video of yourself reloading. Then watch Alex Gutt or Max Michel or any truly top level shooter’s weak hand moving on Youtube. You’ll see what I mean. Just like the draw, the key is *really* fast hands.
  20. Always trust the chrono And start low and build up.
  21. @IDescribe how much variation did you find in your ability to load them longer vs shorter depending on ogive?
  22. CCI are definitely harder to ignite than Winchesters. If you’re running an 11-13 pound recoil spring, I’d just ditch the lighter Apex striker spring for a fresh factory one. Going extra power on striker spring might pull the slide slightly out of battery because the recoil spring and striker spring effectively play tug-of-war.
  23. In addition to the other reply, remember that the elderly woman in the hot coffee case was offered $400 after seeking several thousand to cover the skin grafts she needed. She took them to court when she didn’t have any other option to get injuries covered, still not seeking millions at all. The jury recommended the huge amount we all hear about (and the media never mentions the judge reducing to something more normal.) It wasn’t a frivolous lawsuit at all. CNN wants you to believe it was. And also... that AR15’s are evil.
  24. Yep. Until you learn to shoot into a close target, gripping hard, and rail the trigger that fast... You don’t know you can. Now work on it until you are comfortable with it in a match. So that you’re able to shave .5 seconds or so off the next “in your face” hoser array you face in a match.
