  1. I don’t think a tweaked Walther PPQ/Q5 trigger gives anything up to my fully-tuned Tanfoglio trigger on match day. Same with a solid trigger job on the SIG 320-series. Both of these are available in guns that weigh right at what a CZ or Tanfo does. But the DA/SA guns still have dominant market share, which is interesting. Time will tell. In the end it is mostly personal preference, and a question of how well the gun fits your particualr hand size. They’ll all shoot the same score with the same amount of skill & practice. There are lots of guys out there crushing it with Glocks. And don’t forget Nils Jonasson collecting match wins like crazy with a $400 Canik as the ultimate proof that hard work trumps MSRP.
  2. The DA to SA changeup is only a hangup for someone who doesn’t shoot often or practice with that platform frequently. Competitive shooters do. The DA/SA trigger mechanism isn’t something you really notice after the first month of consistent use. You’re just used to it. The short version is... in return for one pull that’s long but smooth, you get a crisp beautiful single action trigger for the rest of the stage.
  3. What do you think the odds are that USPSA is going to allow them only for polymer guns? You’re just going to push the weight disparity up 10ish ounces on both sides... and sell a bunch of holsters.
  4. Do whatever you want with carry optics. Don’t care. I’m bit***ing about the way production got mutliated. I actually liked that division when a Glock 34 was the gun to have and 97% of us were out of pocket less than $800 on the weapon and all of it’s tuning. Pushing realisitic gear as far as it can go is interesting to me. Shooting a highcap spaceblaster isn’t nearly as much. Just personal taste.
  5. @RJH I don’t want them to allow them in because it’s literally the only thing we have left. They let in every stupid unrealisitic race mod that everyone has asked for in the past 4-6 years. Lights are the only place remaining that Troy and Mike haven’t completely fouled up the older superior ruleset. I do have to say that it’s hilarious that we can have unrealistically heavy guns (for daily carry use) fitted with brass grips, lightened slides, and gas pedals... ... but the weapon light which I actually have fitted to one of my carry / nightstand guns? That’s out.
  6. You really need a chrono if you have some sort of specific goal: powder burn rate makes a MASSIVE difference in the velocity increase you’ll see from an extra 10” of barrel. Slower burn powders really shine with that much runway to work with: I’ve shot some 176PF 124GR hollowpoints that weren’t even +P pressure: they were book loads with Longshot powder. It seems the winning recipe for the majority of PCC shooters to minimize dot movement is a lighter 115 or 124 that’s moving around 140ish powerfactor. My gun gets REALLY flat with those. Push down toward lower 130s and the charge is so hilariously light that accuracy suffers, and the sluggish cycling actually causes the dot to move more.
  7. @RJH If you look at what the number they chose, we don’t have a weight limit. They simply moved it so high that only an idiot would make their mousefart 9mm gun weigh more than most Limited & Open gun builds, effectively deleting it. However, as the sudden appearance of heavy brass grips for the perfectly balanced Shadow 2 has proven... never underestimate what idiots will do.
  8. @Blaize the reason they do not allow it is that when you permit something in a division like this, you are effectively requiring that thing. Assuming it’s something which provides a significant performance advantage, and 4-6oz of weight up front under the muzzle very much is. We already have enough gear to sling around, and enough money to spend on the sport. And yes, production and carry optics guns have strayed hilariously far from any application of the word practical. But just because the current administration messed that up doesn’t mean we need to push the equipment race even further.
  9. Once you buy the aforementioned shockbottle hundo case gauge, you’ll wonder how you ever loaded without it. I’ve always gauged 100% of my ammo, and doing it in 100rd lots is worth paying the $ for. Such an amazing time saver.
  10. I don’t know anyone running a 1.75” belt who isn’t a cop or similar. 1.5” is the standard all of our gear is designed around. Grab a $40 shooters connection branded belt and be happy.
  11. Choose your OAL. Start nice and light, likely around 3.0 or whatever book minimum is, and work your way up to desired powerfactor slowly.
  12. I’ve run CCI 550s (SP Magnum) in everything I own for years. Tanfoglio Stock 3, Walthers, the PCC... They run fine.
  13. That’s where the “staying stocked up on components” thing comes in. I think there’s around 20k in the safe, which will hopefully carry me through these hoarding times since I’m shooting so infrequently - haven’t shot a match since October. I try to think of it as being totally out of bullets or primers when I hit 15k or so, and that’s when I need to go buy more.
  14. The whole point was to ensure that the person you’re buying from is a longterm contributor to this forum and participant in the shooting sports. It’s SUPPOSED to heavily discourage people from joining with intent to sell. I don’t mind having a smaller pool to buy/sell from, if it means there’s a very good chance that someone will not rip me off. I’ve had flawless luck with our classifieds here. I’d be quite fine with it if Brian changed the limit to six months of membership and 200 posts.
  15. When I initially looked into PCC it made all kinds of sense to me to build a gun with an 8-10” barrel. After all, we’re moving around corners and this would let you work your way into and out of ports more quickly... Go shoot a few and figure out what what type of stance lets you really drive the gun and transitikn hard. If you look at all the highest level competitiors, I think you’ll notice what I figured out firsthand: you’ll really want your hand mounted somewhere around 10-13” down the rail, way out in front of the magwell. The increase in control is well worth a few inches of added length. There’s no way I’d build a gun with a barrel shorter than 10 or 11 inches. (My barrel is a turned down ultralight profile CMMG Guard, with the comp pinned and welded onto it so that it’s just past the USA’s minimum of 16” for a rifle.)
  16. Its been a year or two. I’ve been shooting it quite a bit. It also got 5oz of tungsten weight epoxied into the grip at the backstrap. Although it’s fun, I think I may be selling it soon to concentrate on Production, and help fun the down payment on a house we want to buy.
  17. The 1050/1100 is where it’s at for these. I personally like a Lee die in the first station; You can see the top of the primer punch sticking out of the die, and so far it either drives the primer out, or pushes the punch up through it’s jam-nut in the center of the die body. That, might I add, is extraordinarily rare when it’s set right. It swages the pockets to all take a primer identically - on my 650 one would be easy, the next would be hard, and the third would be crimped and potentially crush a primer. Your primer seating depth is also adjustable and far more consistent. With a 550/650 I’m checking out every primer carefully... loading on my 1050 I barely glance at the primers once I’ve dropped 100 rounds into the hundo case gauge. It’s so reliable that I’m only looking for backwards or missing primers since the depth is *almost* 100% perfect regardless of brass brand. Primer swaging and seating, and the increase in leverage (its quite a bit easier to pull the handle) are my two favorite things about upgrading to the 1050.
  18. Ditch the dillon trumpet flare, and install a mister bulletfeeder flare in the dillon powder drop. Incredible improvement. I see you’re already convinced on the MBF. :D Good choices. I prefer the U-die but the traditional will likely work well. You will probably be happier with the standard crimp die if you run coated bullets. Overall you’re well sorted out.
  19. I assume you’re looking for a frame-mounted optic and not a slide-ride.
  20. @EngineerEli why not take a belt sander to that one until it turns into a flat semi-nonfunctional safety like the Unica stuff available for the current guns? That would probably be my approach. I personally never use the safety on a CZ/Tanfo platform weapon.
  21. Anyone who doesn’t realize they made the limit 59oz to effectively remove the limit, and tries to make their plastic gun weight more than most Limited guns? Well. I just find those people entertaining. USPSA: “We ‘removed’ the weight limit because clearly no one will want a gun to be THAT heavy. This is great! We won’t have to weigh all those guns at majors anymore C-class newcomer: “Who makes tungsten grips for a Shadow 2?” USPSA: “We should have seen that coming.”
  22. I’m so incredibly thankful I reload. Ammo supply will be hilariously short for at least a year. Since 2008 or so, you ALWAYS need to stock up on 1-2 year’s worth of components or ammo when an election is coming.
