    New XL 650

I have and have used both the Dillon and the Lee dies on my XL650 and I prefer the Lee dies all the way. When I use the Dillon dies I use the Lee FCD. thanks, George
  2. I built mine with PVC pipes with instructions from this site http://www.parmarng.org/freeidaho/AlSkDjFhG/index.html look at PVC Rocking Target George
  3. The problem I had was the spent primer chute had jammed up and a spent primer was blocking the shell plate. I looked all over for the problem for a long time before I noticed. I would suggest taking the shell plate off and see if it will cycle properly without the plate. If so, you will narrow your search quite a bit. Good luck, George
  4. I just started loading .38 Super and got the same thing with the Lee Factory Crimp die. I did not have any problem with 9mm or .45 acp. After following the set up instructions and running into the problem I just slowly backed it off until the scraping stopped, then I backed it off a little more. I have shot 300-400 rounds loaded this way and they function just fine. I am not sure what the crimp measurement is, or should be, but it is a lot less then the 9mm. thanks, George
  5. I tried practicing in the back yard and the front yard. Not a lot of room in either as these are very small lots and no wooden fences, only the 4 ft. chain link. Very open. Older people these days seem more concerned about something different in the neighborhood than maybe younger people do. Lots of widows and widowers and a few couples. I tried indoors ( small house ) and my wife did not really care for the plastic projectiles that I did not get picked up. This afternoon I read on Ben Stoeger's website that he blocked the follower in his airsoft and practices without projectiles, just the slide going back and forth. That might be my answer for indoors. thanks, George
  6. I live in an area of mostly older, retired people with small lots and quite open. I am one of the youngsters in the area and I am 66. When I tried to practice with an airsoft I had quite a crowd watching and talking with each other. I explained to each group what I was doing and showed them the small plastic pellets, and nobody called the police. I tried again a couple of weeks later and got a crowd again, so I gave up. Not sure what to do next, as I do not have a garage and no matter where I stand to practice I am in full view of the street. thanks, George
  7. I shot my Kimber for a couple of years in matches with a 14 pound spring with no problems at all. This is with 230 grain RN making power factor. I used a 12 pound spring for awhile but I liked way the front sight came back with the 14 pound better. My buddy uses a 12 pound spring in his Wilson and swears by it. George
  8. I used an STI Eagle in 9mm for IDPA for awhile and it is a wonderful gun. The only problem I had was the slide locking back reliably. If I were only going to shoot IDPA I would go with the Trojan. thanks, George
  9. I also think finger placement on the trigger is overrated. I have very short fingers and shoot a STI 2011, so I take what finger placement I can get. I had a similar problem and found I was milking the grip ( squeezing the grip with the rest of the fingers ) when I pulled the trigger. Working on finger / hand strength and practice has helped me. Good luck. George
  10. An older Kimber Classic Custom that I got used. It is the most reliable .45 I have ever owned. I shot it in IDPA for a while and never a stutter or burp. George
  11. I bought a used CED8000 and I am very happy with it. It is a little bulky, but will take a beating and even I could figure it out, so its easy to operate. thanks, George
  12. Thanks for the instruction manual. I purchased a used holster and have been asking everyone I see wearing one if they have instructions. thanks again, George
  13. I blame middle of the night invasions by Elves or Gnomes or something that comes in and takes things, or at least moves them to strange places. The older I get, the more active they seem to be. George
  14. I think the new / less skilled shooters need the RO warnings and the consultation after the stage so they can learn and stay safe. Normally once is enough. The highly competitive shooters on the other hand are pushing and know what they are doing, they do no need or appriciate the warnings. From my very limited experience the ROs do a great job of knowing the skill levels and abilities of the competitors and doing what needs to be done. thanks, George
  15. I tried the " mono vision " a couple of times. Once with contacts, which I could not wear. I went nuts trying to drive, read signs, etc. Then I had a set of shooting glasses made with the right lens set for the front sight. Worked really great for indoor close targets, but past 15 yards the target was really blurry. I have been using a red fiber optic front sight which helps. I hope you find something and I will monitor the thread and see if I can pick up some ideas for me also. thanks and good luck, George

    Great Job..... George
  17. I had the same problem. Spent 2 hours finding all the ways my old unit would not work. I called Dillon and they sent me the new connecting arm the next day. thanks, George
  18. Fantastic....I gotta try that. Y'al in Georgia rock......! George
  19. Nice looking gun....to me, and I am certainly no expert, but I had to put a lot more weak hand/off hand into shooting the .45 than I was used to. Once I locked in both hands, life got better. I need a lot more grip/hand than I do with a 9mm. Good luck. George
  20. Congrats and I understand. I purchased my first Open Gun a couple of weeks ago and am trying to learn how that Puppy thinks. It is a whole new world and I am having a ball. I hope you have as much fun as I am having. George
  21. Wow - thanks XRe. I had to stop reading and go try that. It works a whole lot better than what I have been doing, so now comes the practice. thanks, George
  22. A very good Post, thanks George
  23. Sounds really good Paul. Are you going to be at Waco in a couple of weeks? thanks, George
